  • Hows this for a Hyndai Excel 99' anyone?

    • Check your manual for ideal oil weighting given your areas temperature BUT I'd say it's fine. Particularly if you're changing your oil at 5k intervals - which is best practice.

99% sure to be absolutely fine for such a vehicle.

      • 5k change interval for a regular daily car? Overkill I think…

  • I would say it is fine too for your vehicle.

    • i would agree

serviced with this oil and filter and half a tank of petrol and you've doubled the market value

  • Yes this will be perfect for your excel.

  • I'd prefer their previous deal on Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 for $24.99. It was semi-synthetic oil which is better than this GTX mineral oil.

It has been a while since that sale, I hope they bring it back.

    • Autobarn currently have the Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 on sale for $24.99, but no free oil filter sadly.

    • Problem is that, mechanics don't reduce the fee they charge even if we bring our own oil and filter.

  • Does anybody know if this is good for Toyota Corolla 2004?

  • Dam my X-trail needs 5w-30 and thats never going to be on special

  • rmamila and AMLagonda you will be all right with magnatec 10-40. Unless your xtrail is diesel and specifies a low ash/sulphur oil.

    • Its petrol, old 2002 model so yer might get away with thicker oil, just that the spring on the timing chain must be stuffed as it needs oil pressure fast to stop the rattle.

      • +1

Hydraulic chain tensioners are usually quite tough and should last the life of the chain/car. A rattle or tapping sound in the first few seconds of cold startup is fine and normal. Let it sit there and idle till pressure reaches the lash adjuster. (don't go revving it while it's tappety). Happens a fair bit on other chain driven engines. Different oils may make a difference. You will just have to experiment!

        • What happens if I have a timing belt and I get rattling/tapping when the engine is cold/idle? what does that indicate?

        • What sort of car is this? How old and how many kms?

        • 2004 Mitsubishi Grandis, 110000km. 4G69…

Used to be fine but after I had the 100k service done (pumps/belts, plugs) when it starts there'd be this rattling noise.

  • If the rattling (tapping sound) is coming from the engine only on cold startup, it is likely to be coming from your valve tappets. If you've never had one before then you're pretty much due for one. You will be looking at roughly 2-3 hrs labour + a rocker cover gasket/sealant. All up $300-$500 depending on where you go.

    • Sorry I was referring to a 'valve tappet adjustment'
