  • Perfect for school students. I would recommend the touch screen, as I know most kids are used to it at my school.

Would be, except for the screen. My kid was trying to use an "HD" screen for school at first, and had to keep scrolling up and down because the webpage did not fit.
This would be more OK for casual web browsing, email, videos.

Seriously HD for 13 inch with 8th gen processor?

    • Worse than that would be to be a TN screen with horrible viewing angles.

      Seriously for $249?

I don’t understand these comments about CPU gen and screens. Do you think computers were unusable in 2018?
If you have not much to spend on a laptop, this is fine.
If you have $1000+ for a laptop, then a nicer screen and faster processor is great, but an 8th gen cpu runs office and web and youtube fine, and that is 99% of the requirement most people have for their computer.

I don't think the complaint is about the processor, or the use of older machines in general, but rather pointing out that by the time the 8th gen processors were released HD was extremely low spec.

If it were a 2nd gen then a low resolution would be expected, by 6th gen 4K was reasonably common on high end machines and FHD was pretty much standard, by 8th gen the savings from dropping from FHD to HD would be minimal. It's more a criticism of the person who ordered them originally, they saved a couple of dollars and made the machines significantly worse.

I agree with heydonms. I’m still using thinkpad from 2013, it uses 3rd gen cpu with HD screen. I just connect it to FHD monitor and no issues at all. It still can handle many daily tasks. At the same time, I also have Dell with 8th gen from 2019 which uses FHD.

I only concern why they picked HD for their configuration. It’s uncomfortable and their savings from those orders wouldn’t be that much.
This laptop is still good if you connect it to a larger monitor and use it as a pc.

        • Ok, fair enough. Though I guess if they were FHD I bet they would be $349 instead of $249.
I remember circa 2011 having a 15in laptop with HD, and I still occasionally use an old 12in with HD, but I admit I’m not hypercritical about my display (though typing this I realise all the systems I use regularly better than FHD screens, so I am being a bit disingenuous!)

  • That resolution 🥶🥶🥶🥶

  • So is this IPS screen?

  • My Primary PC is the 17" version of this i.e. HP Probook 470 G5 with the i5 CPU. It is more than fine and I am a very heavy user with many apps installed with many opened concurrently. Even have 25 Webpages open (Chrome & FIrefox) as I type this. CPU = 21% Disk 1% RAM 70% (but it will use as much RAM as one throws at it so 70% doesn't tell me much).
I have multiple VM's (HyperV) and all run without issue. 16GB RAM installed (2 x 8GB) with 8GB of it usually assigned to VM's when in use.

Point being: As a heavy user this works very well and never an issue. Can't see the 13" one being any different. I highly recommend and for $249 a bargain if in good nick.

Screen = Not massively bright if being used out doors in sunlight but fine in the shade and is a matt screen which I much prefer over the very reflective bright view glossy ones.

  • Can ram be increased?

It comes with x 2 slots & by default with 1 x 8gb so no issues adding a second 8GB.
Specs say: DDR4 PC4 – 2400 note: System runs at 2133 (Intel 8th Gen CPU runs at 2400). (2) SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory (both slots are customer accessible/upgradeable).
