    Any good?

    1 year warranty sucks

    Review: Product Review

  • +10

    Why is this a deal?

    • +2

Maybe every Aldi's Special Buy is considered a deal?

  • Is it easy to get spare parts if anything breaks?

    • +13

      It’s Aldi, so no.

      • Possibly, The Aldi stuff is generally a rebrand of another product. If you find what the rebrand is you "may" be able to get spare parts reasonably easy.

    • +5

Bought the toilet exhaust fan and the LED blew within a year. Asked 4 lights shops and they all said the unit is unique to Aldi so no comparable replacement bulb and had to change the entire unit. The installation cost more than the fan. Now gotta buy and pay the sparky to install another.

      • +3

        exhaust fan is simple DIY

        • +3

what if you're not a simple DIYer?

      • +1

Can feel your pain. Take few photos of the LED and do Google lens search, Aliexpress app also has photo search feature, hopefully this will be helpful. Important things to keep in mind would be the volts, watts and the connector type. Hope you find something which can be replaced easily as LED alone didn't felt customised product to me.

        • Shop says I cant just just change the LED bulb as it plugs into the external transformer that is then wired to the fan electricals so unless I have teh know how to identify which wire goes where I may as well replace the whole exhaust unit.

    • +4

Apart from the frame, almost anything else can be sourced online (same can be applied to most other bikes) easily. shimano gears, battery, brakes motor. bike manufacturers generally only make the frame (in many cases they only assemble the parts from many other vendors).

    • Most bike parts are swappable..

    • Read the example feedback from their support for this bike.
"Our Service Team advised that we do not have replacement key. You can try to look for a local locksmith in your area."

      Great, huh.

    Here for the Alternatives.

This is truly a pathetic battery for the size. I've seen bigger batteries on low end 16 inch ebikes. This is not taking you anywhere with wheels that big.

Aldi were terrible for returns for faulty items with my expierence, they got me to contact the manufacturer and they said to contact aldi, big time pass the buck from aldi. Try your luck tho. This was a few years ago

    • +15

if anything, aldi is fantastic on the returns

      • +2

im glad they are much better now. My expierence was terrible, altho many years ago

    • +5

They will take anything back no questions asked in my experience.

Free electric bike rental for up to 12 months. Might have gotten $50 in interest on your money in that period, so not exactly free. But good enough for some cheap fun

  • +12

Finally an EV I can afford.

  • Any recommendations in this range or max range of $1500?
Need something to ride between 4-10km multiple times during the day.

    • +2

99 Bikes is running a sale at the moment. Here's a link to their electric bike range close to your budget: https://www.99bikes.com.au/electric?campaign=10699&price=100…

      • My commute via bike/scooter would be 7km one way to work every day, all flat. Would a scooter or an ebike suit me better?
Looking to replace my car entirely if that's even possible.

        • +8

7km flat? Unless you are disabled, a regular bike would be perfect.

eBikes are fantastic when you have too many hills though. Or a soul-crushing headwind.

        • If you're talking e-scooters, they're illegal to be ridden on public roads in several states.

        • +2

7km on a scooter won't be fun, regardless of legality.

  • +5

That’s not really a deal anymore. You can get a reputable bike from a reputable store for the same money:

    https://ivanhoecycles.com.au/products/shogun-eb1-e-bike-grey

    • Rear hub so a lot more painful to deal with. Depending on the brand, a lot of shops just won’t deal with it. Also sucks if you want to change the rear tyre.

      • So would you recommend to buy one with mid drive? How about this one POWER CRUISER MID-DRIVE HYBRID ELECTRIC BIKE $1,699

        • I’m not familiar with the brand so cannot comment on its quality. The specs seem fair.

I am no expert but everything I read about e-bikes just pointed me away from non main stream brands and rear hub bikes due to replacement parts or repairs.

I ended up with an Avanti with a Bosch motor. It works great and runs smooth. I got rid of my old car and have been using the ebike for 18months. When I purchased supply was a problem so was not spoilt for choice.

One thing, e-bikes are limited to 25kmh speed assist in Aus and unlocking the Bosch has proved difficult. I’m not looking to go 60kmh but the NZ speed assist cap of 32kmh would be nice.

  • +2

Battery capacity is weak at 7.5aH. I don't think you'll be able to find replacement batteries later on, but to mention battery are expensive (someone can correct me otherwise).

My entry level velectrix battery only lasted about 5000km before the battery started going to shit and now barely hits 15km range.

This isn’t great value, but not much is at sub $1k. Cheap, yes. Good value, no.

Just been down to Aldi in South Fremantle, WA.
They have the 29" Estate eMTB on sale for $999 at the moment. Believe the 27" version they sold for $1800 or so a while ago.
Mid drive, 250w with seat dropper post, hydraulic brakes, and suntour fork presents amazing value at 999 imho. Still had 7 left when I left - if interest rates werent hitting so hard I'd have picked one up!

    • Good lord, I've never seen a Mid drive under $1000. Bargain.

      • I got excited, but catalog shows a rear hub-drive.

        https://www.catalogueoffers.com.au/view/offers/aldi-catalogu…

And 7-speed, which mean a freewheel, not cassette, so very limited gear range. But only $999, so what you'd expect.

        • They're referring to the one that was $1800 when released, now down to $999 - its mid-drive which is a ripsnorter of a deal

    • Chewman, can you clarify that please? Mid-drive there now ??!!

      • Joondalup also have the mid-drive ones

    • +1

      Thanks Chewman!

I cannot find any official info online for this model. So for anyone else interested:

The e-MTB in ALDI now is very similar to the 2021 model,
      * but 29" (=700C) wheels instead of 27.5, and only $999.
      * Has 1x8 11-34T cassette, Acera parts,
      * 10Ah x 36V battery, 250W mid-drive. Selectable 25 or 45 speed limit
      * dropper seatpost, QR rear wheel, through-axle at front,
      * hydraulic disc brakes
      * 24kg, so a bit heavy, due to frame, coil-spring forks, and mid-drive.

A very good price, a much better deal than the upcoming $999 bike this page was created for.
Obviously it is not intended for hard-core mountain biking, but should be fine on rough gravel trails.
