  • Seems like you can get 100GB for 2 months?

    • +2

5G speed with 60GB for 2 months is also free

      • +1

4g plan comes with a 5g trial by the looks of it? so might as well go with that.

      • Capped at 100Mbps

    • Sounds good.

  • +17

Cool, next hop from 3 months for $3 mate communicate deal

  • +11

I'm currently with Tangerine for NBN and they seem to be exceptionally incompetent when it comes to getting anything done. Feel this would translate to their mobile but may not

    • +12

No hate, but my experience is the complete opposite to you in regards to nbn.
zero issues here and speeds are great

      • +8

You never really know how bad their support is until you need to call them. I was on the phone with Westpac this morning for an hour with a credit card application that got stuck. Was transferred around between 4 different people because none of them knew how to help me.

      • Same this guy must want gold for 45 bucks

      • +1

        My experience:

Originally booked 100 plan as figured that's good enough. Realised well approx 2 weeks before service started that the 250 plan would allow me FTTP upgrade so arranged for that to occur which they said was not an issue. Switchover to Tangerine occurred and wasn't even getting full 100 speeds. Checked and they had not adjusted my plan to the 250 so I contacted them again and got a bunch of back and forth to finally confirm I could do so if wanted and keep the original signup discount price (as terms said if changed plans would lose that). Opened an order to have my plan speed increased and FTTP upgrade completed as was recommended in email comms. Response to order was my current plan did not allow for FTTP upgrade as it wasn't fast enough and closure of that order raised. The order was for an upgrade to the faster plan with a comment that I would also like to take advantage of the FTTP upgrade.

After that I opened up another case and they once again said I could do what I had been trying to (upgrade to 250 and FTTP) for about 2 months now. So I went yes go ahead and then noticed that they had said it would be 89.90 a month not the 79.90 which I was entitled to if they had got everything right at the start. More emails to finally get that sorted (still unsure what my bill will say but money is on 89.90 so I'll chase that up).

Now I have the FTTP upgrade appointments occuring. The first booking had to be cancelled as I changed jobs and the time was no longer viable to have someone home. I asked them to rebook for an afternoon timeslot as this would be possible for us to work around. The new booking was 8am-12pm. I have contacted Tangerine again to resolve hopefully that occurs soon.

TLDR my experience has been non stop failure in terms of customer service for simple tasks. My internet connection has been ok but noticeably slower than Exetel who I ported from.

        • +1

Being a budget option I would currently be giving them a 5/10 as the service works and was connected on time. I have been fortunate my issues haven't caused issues with the internet in a major way but would question how quickly they would fix a major failure

    • -8

I've used them for NBN pretty good customer service and decent speeds. How much do you get paid for negative reviews?

    • I have NBN and mobile with tangerine. Two phones, both get terrible reception. Like, any major shopping centre has complete dead spots. After my promo is up, I'm bailing.

I can't have no reception in a standard shopping centre… Never had that issue with Vodafone 🤷‍♂️

    • +3

Tangerine NBN for me is great. Very few speed or disconnect issues however customer service is zero. I try to add referrals from Ozbargain and they never seem to apply it. Seems it wont allow the code for sign ups even though it is valid and they need to talk to customer service.

One user did get it added but it wasn't applied to my account. I then talked to customer service saying it cant be added too late now and it wasn't until i proved to them that the other user had it applied that I could too. I am being nice about it, it was a straight up argument. Like they were TELLING me I was wrong until I proved them otherwise. Seemed they didn't want to do any work until forced

Great, cheap product. Customer service zero

      • Im on Tangerine as well and its fine for basic use but things like gaming is another matter. Biggest issues appear t be international speeds and reliability are highly volatile. Some days at peak times its literally unplayable with packet loss and rubber banding/pausing in game. If you access all local and cached stuff, which is most folks, then yeah you'd never notice it. So i still think its a decent option for most people. But I'll definitely be leaving once this promo speed ends.

  • +3

Hmmmm. 2 months 100GB sounds good.

    Offer ends 1st May.

  • +1

Didn't know that 10GB ($20/m) was really low. "Back in my day, 10MB….."

  • +1

Can someone double check point 9 in terms and condition. Does that mean you can cancel without charge in first two months. My brain offline

    • +3

IMO yes. It seems once you cancel within the frist 2 months, you have no more accessibility for the data left. Time to cancel the Optus tab A8 plan and try this.

      • Thanks for reminding me, that ends this month !
What a deal that was, $12.50 a month for 30g then unlimited shaped + a free A8 tab + i think i got $50 back on cashrewards unbloody believable !

Are there are other cheap unlimited / shaped data sims ?

Currently on the Mate $1/3m deal, trying to figure out how to make this work as it ends 1st may, if ordering SIM in advance starts the timer like with mate.

    • +1

      grabs notepad

On a serious note though - in the email at the bottom it states

The 2 months is a promotional period and commences from the day that your mobile service is activated

      • +2

Many telecoms going activation from when you order.

    • +3

If you signed up for the Mate deal on the first day (15/2/23) like me, then you'd have to "lose" a couple of weeks in order to take up this Tangerine deal. Obviously, the later that you signed up for the Mate deal, the more of it that you'd have to forego to switch to this one. I think I'll sit on the sidelines until it's closer to 1/5/23. With any luck, this deal will get extended a little, like the Mate one did.

      • +4

Tangerine don't start the month until you actually activate the sim card. They had the same promotion for Black Friday last year. I got one then and didn't activate it until February. The only caveat is that you need to activate within 3 months of when you place the order.

  • +1

How is the port in and out experience? Can any one share?

    • +2

I've had no problem, although only ported in/out twice. When porting out, select postpaid and enter your account number.

      • Thanks for sharing

  • I would prefer just waiting for another Boost profit with CR.

Feels like a trap if you cancel after the 2nd month and they will request for normal charge.

  • +3

Have to activate by 1st May or just order by then?

    • +2

Have the same question. Any one have any idea of this?

      • +6

You just have to order it by then. You only have to activate it within 3 months of the order date. They had the same promotion for Black Friday last year. I got a sim card and didn't activate it until February, and had no problems.

        • +1

Then I'm guessing I can just order 5 separate plans on the last day before expiration and activate them within 3 months as it says 'This offer will apply to a maximum of 5 mobile services per account'

  • -4

This is a crap deal. Just about any prepaid deal is better value than this.

    • Wow. So free is crap or crap is free

      • -4

It's a crap ongoing deal Mr. Pedantic.

    • Do you mean this is a post paid sim ?

  • +3

9.This offer is offered on a no fixed term contract. You are free to cancel at any time without charges. However,
cancelling your service within the first 2 months forfeits any remaining full or partial months discounted.

    Found this one in T&C

    • +1

I found this in Critical Information Summary:
You can cancel your contract at any time before the end of your current billing period. You will not receive a refund or credit for any unused days of the current billing period of your plan that fall after your cancellation date. Included features and usage are prepaid at the start of each month. Some additional service add-ons can be prepaid during a month. Non-prepaid usage is billed at the end of a month.

      The following account fees apply:
      Non-direct debit fee: $3.50
Paper Bill Fee: $3.50 (available on request only)
      Late Payment Fee: $16.50
      VISA/Mastercard surcharge: 1%
      American Express Surcharge: 2%
Temporary suspension of service charge: $10.00 per each whole or partial billing period when the suspension is in place.
      SIM replacement charge: $10.00
SIM provisioning charge: A $10.00 fee applies if you do not activate your service within 3 months after your SIM was posted.

      • SIM provisioning charge: A $10.00 fee applies if you do not activate your service within 3 months after your SIM was posted.

        SH*T I just ordered 5!!
So I need to activate them without using them.
        Thanks for that.

        • +1

So I need to activate them without using them.

Serious question….. If you weren't planning on activating them, what were you planning on doing with them?

          • @Colin2905: Not planning on activating them within 3 months. I wanted to give to parents who's coming here to use then

            • +3

@amylee111: That was never going to work then. You'd be better off jumping on the Boost / CashRewards bandwagon.

        • +1

Next time use a temporary debit card from Revolut.

  • +3

    Do they offer ESIM?

    • +2

No asked them on live chat earlier

  • Is there a speed cap when you run out of data, does your data just stop or are you charged for excess data? I can't find it anywhere

    • +1

The capped speed is 100mbps not 100kbps.
You will be charged for excess data.

  • +1

    Is this prepaid or postpaid?
    Requires credit file check?

  • For anything above 30gb data p/m tpg actually comes out on top for the first year.

    tpg
    45gb 12 month cost $270
    60gb 12 month cost $360

    iinet
    40gb 12 month cost $300
    55gb 12 month cost $360

    tangerine
    32gb 12 month cost $300
    42gb 12 month cost $350

    felix
unlimited capped speed 12 month cost $367

If anyone can find a better deal for the above 30gb p/m then chime in

    • Less than $20 a year if you do sim hopping.

      • For 360GB a year? How?

        • +1

Well to start mate $1 per month for 3 months = 300GB

Then this deal 2 months free = 200gb

          Thats 500gb over 5 months for $3

Then i had 6 months woolworths i paid $40 i think as the prepaid packs were discounted but also got 10% off groceries and 2 x $10 wish cards via referral plus $10 cashrewards

Thats 515Gb over 11 months for $13 if you include incentives above or only $3 if you value the 10% off groceries

          • @easternculture: Thanks for the information. Don’t Mate do a credit check for a $1 per month for 3 months deal? I think the Tangerine one doesn’t require a credit check (not 100% sure).

  • Do they have esim?

    • No

  • +1

So if you cancel the sim service or port out before 2 months period, do you need to pay anything? I'm not clear bout The T&C of "
9.This offer is offered on a no fixed term contract. You are free to cancel at any time without charges. However,
cancelling your service within the first 2 months forfeits any remaining full or partial months discounted."

  • +1

    Guys just note:

SIM provisioning charge: A $10.00 fee applies if you do not activate your service within 3 months after your SIM was posted.

    https://www.tangerinetelecom.com.au/storage/CIS/Current%20CI…

    Remember to activate your sim!

I couldn't verify my identity (it kept failing) - too much faffing around so I decided not to get it.

    • +5

Yes chatted to confirm with Tangerine rep. As long as SIM order placed before promo end date 1/5/2023, can activate within 3 months (date is from SIM Received Date not Order date)

"As long as you purchased the sim within the Easter promo date
      Nifiel
      11:29
You can activate it within 3 months
      Nifiel
      11:29
      And avail the promo plan
      Nifiel
      11:32
Start from the day you get the sim"

      • +1

I'm confused, does the 2 free months start from activation date or date sim was delivered?
Seems to me like Nifiel's saying both which conflicts

        • +3

The 2 free months starts from the activation date. They had the same promotion for Black Friday last year, which I took advantage of and it was definitely 2 months free from the activation date.

          • +2

            @Zau79: Yes correct

The 2 free months starts from the activation date.(As long as you order before Promo end date 1/5/2023)

However you have 3 months to activate the SIM card. Past this timeframe you will incur $10 charge.

SIM provisioning charge: A $10.00 fee applies if you do not activate your service within 3 months after your SIM was posted.

When I asked Niefel if the 3 month timeframe starts from 1)Order Date 2)SIM posted out Date or 3)SIM received Date,
Niefel's confirmed it's No.3 - the Date you receive the SIM.

However, from the T&C it states "3 months after your SIM was posted".
So probably safer to use the Order Date (as you can't always trust customer service representatives)

  • +2

How do you cancel the plan? Is it in an app or txt? Or do you need to talk to someone, whilst they try to talk you into staying?

    • +6

The account portal on their website has an option to create a new order. One of the options for the order is mobile cancellation. Just do that and submit the order. Just beware that it's not instant and it can be a day or two before they get around to actually cancelling the service. So if you want to cancel without paying, make sure you do it at least a couple of business days before the end of your two months.

Or port the number to another provider which will be much quicker!

  • Is this good for port out of boost and port in into Telstra?

Or can I just call Telstra and get the porting done through CS?

  • You could select how many SIM cards in the order? I'm getting 99 then

    • 9999

  • I received the sim it said activate within 10 days otherwise will be charged for $10 after 3 months without activating???
    Any idea?

  • +4

I know that I said earlier that I'd wait until closer until 1/5/23 before ordering, but based on posts since (thanks!) I ordered one on the weekend.

    A few data points / observations…..

It arrived yesterday (Express Post from Melbourne to Canberra). I could've activated it yesterday if I had wanted to, but today the portal seems to be borked in that department…. not that I want to activate it today either. (I'm probably going to get the most out of the Mate offer that I'm currently on, then port.)

There isn't an app (or if there is, I couldn't find it). Logging in via the web site involves entering your 6-digit account number, e-mail address, password and a 6-digit OTP sent to the mobile number you provided when you signed up. (If you didn't have a mobile number to begin with…. ???)

Looks like the increased data allowances have taken effect already (and on Mate Mobile too).

@amylee111 - My take on the wording on the accompanying A4 page is that they'd like you to activate it within 10 business days, but you still have 3 months before they'll charge you $10 if you don't activate it.

    • Edit window has expired, so……

Activation via the portal still seems to be borked using Chrome, but looks like it'd work using Firefox.

  • +1

I'll be following your adventures with interest as I am on the same path - wrap up with Mates, move to Tangerine. Thx for posting this experience.

    • +1

I've penciled in 12/5/23 as my day to port from Mate to Tangerine.

    • +1

After someone posted on Whirlpool that they were having issues trying to port from Mate to Amaysim, I thought it prudent to port mine from Mate to Tangerine today, and sacrifice a few days, "just in case". My port went without a hitch, taking about 10 to 15 minutes. A bit over an hour later I received a text and an e-mail from Mate, confirming that my service was no longer with them.

      • I ported yesterday, easy as pie for me (but I've read about on or two others on here having a harder time). Took about 15mins.

Glad I read your post though as I have not had text or email from Mates confirming I'm done. I'll give them a call just to be sure.

  • +3

So let's look at some of the recent offerings listed on this site and work this out…
This Tangerine offer FOC for 2 months
Boost $2.50 profit for 28 days
Lycamobile $1pm for 3 recharges of 28 days
    Another Boost $2.50 deal
    Mate $1pm for 3 months
Back to Boost (let's be conservative and say $1.50 this time)
    First month free on Felix
That works out to about $0 for a whole year (might have to chuck in the Optus 7-day/FOC deal to cover a gap).
Okay, it's not that easy, the deals would have to line up and you would be wise to leave yourself a few days of margin in the ports, if keeping your phone number was important.
But in theory, could you navigate your way through a year's mobile telephony for basically free?
Extra brownie points for anyone who manages to do this on a $200 G82!

    • +4

I've been running my main, secondary and sometimes tertiary mobile services on the smell of an oily rag for longer than I can remember. I'll add the following random comments….

I probably wouldn't bother with Lyca again. I probably wouldn't bother with Circles.Life again either.

The Kogan and Amaysim freebies seem to have dried up. I tried to get on the Gomo e-SIM first month free bandwagon, but it's borked. Ditto for the Optus 7-day free e-SIM trial, although apparently you can still go in-store and get it.

The $80 Belong starter packs haven't been available for 2000 (instead of 10,000) Telstra Plus points for about nine months. :( And it's now a minimum of $19 per month after the first month. :(

Aussie Broadband Mobile are still offering the first month free until the end of this month.

Depending on your grocery shopping habits, Woolworths Mobile (particularly with discounted starter pack and cashback offers) can pay for itself, or yield a profit.

      • Telstra Rewards Belong $80 is currently 5,000 points (50% off).

        • I grabbed one on the day that postage was free (19/4). I had enough points for two, and my wife has enough points for three, but at 5000 points each, one is all I need for now. They have to be activated within 12 months of purchase, so I need to space out my purchases of them.

  • Rookie question, but would a 5G sim work in a 4G-only phone? I'm happy with 4G speeds and I want to get the 5G sim cos it has the biggest data allowance.
