Just curious where people's priorities are. Computer includes laptops, tablets, desktop PCs.

It's the cost of miniaturization. Same thing happens with PCs vs laptops.
Phone $900 > TV $700 > PC $200 + Monitor $400 = $600
My PC is more expensive than my phone but I am spending more time on phone these days.
Usually buy a pixel phone for $1000~ every 3 years
Bought gaming PC about 4 years ago and not planning on replacing for another few years unless it dies - $950~ techfast deal
Bought a Kogan tv for $450 about 8 years ago that surprisingly only died last year, so ended up just using a $100 Amazon 1080p projector sitting on a stool facing a blank wall where the TV used to be in our loungeroom which is working a treat
TV ($00), Phone Galaxy s4($12.50)new new case +battery, Laptops new 120gb ssd+ ax210 ($38.0) Pc38 new240gb ssd +Pcie usb3
all above are freebies from used spare parts some from kerbside or RMA refurb parts
car is inherited EF Falcon250KMs
spend $$ on emptying my bucket so I can kick it when mt I'm still putting things in it even while I'm fighting terminal brain cancer
just came back from Trip of Great ocean rd including Florence + Machine concert on the way downI went Phone (Used on the train to/from work + at home at night on the couch and before bed) > Television (couple of hours a night, lots on weekends) > PC (barely use these days, last major upgrade was 3 years ago).
Phone is a OP7T that I got for $750 over 3 years ago. TV is a Sony Bravo 46" LED from 2010 (still goes hard). PC was a mid-range i5 build (would be considered low end these days).
I think it really depends on your profession, lifestyle etc. For me iPhone, followed by Mac and finally tv. iPhone 14 pro $1900 (but bought with gift cards), MacBook Air 2020 about $1600 (gift cards used too) and the best telly is a 65 HiSense which we got for $1200 a around 5 years ago.
didn't realise to own apple products one needed a certain profession…
I just meant what kind of work you do would determine what gadget you need. There are people that need to edit videos, or specific apps etc.
I didn’t say you need to buy apple, but I know the macs are very powerful for video editing.
$1500 Gaming Laptop
$1500 Sony TV (used as monitor for laptop)
$1500 iPhone 13 Pro
and $1500 on PS5 with G29 wheel and racing sim rig for fun. This is hard to answer I haven’t needed to prioritise spending like this since I was a teenager
I picked TV - Computer - Phone because I’m assuming TV includes speakers and stuff I’ve got to go with it…
But I guess if the budget tightened it will always be Computer - Computer - Computer
PC $2500, phone $1800, tv $650
Will use tv until it dies, pc 3 to 4 years before upgrades, phone is iPhone so can't wait to get rid of it and back to AndroidPhone $300 JB HiFi $69/12Month plan (Samsung S20 FE), TV $1800 LG OLED 55" 2018, PC $6000 (Custom watercooling cost a fortune)
computer>phone>tv for me.
i use my computer the most by far (m1 macbook air after a stint on a DIY PC).
currently on the most expensive phone i've ever bought (iphone SE lol).
the tv is just a monitor basically, it cost like 250 bucks five years ago. it's high enough definition for the stuff i consume and its plugged into my analog audio stuff so the shit speakers don't matter.
i can't believe people spend so much on tvs.
Phone is s22 ultra. TV is 55 inch C1. Pc is 5900X/32GB DDR4/6700XT. All three suit me fine. Ask again in 7 years.
Built my PC (~$2000) always looking for best prices/quality second hand when on 3 year upgrade cycle.
My phone is Galaxy S9+ bought for $500 from refurbisher 3 years ago. Budget is new phone every 3-4 years or keep as long as practically possibly with Max spend of ~$500.
TV, just bought a second hand 2018 55" LG 4K for $250. No specific budget but $250 was more than wanted to spend but found this TV was hard to pass up.Not all at once.
I spent 2.6k on a phone, but i got a plan, so its over 24 months.
Bought a TV that was 4.1k
PC Parts are a now and then, I haven't bought all new gear all at once in a long time, BUT if I did it would cost more than TV and phone as well…
use to drop big dollars but now im looking for the bargain.
i wont spend big bucks these days as consumer goods are way overpriced and costly to repair.
Computer > TV > Phone
I use my Computer more than my TV and the phone is just a phone I dont need to spend $1000 + just for something to make and receive calls
I spend more on what I use more.
Phone > TV > Computer.probably coffee at work…
iMac 2.5k, macbook pro 5k, iPad pro 3.8k, iphone 14 pro max 1TB 2.6k, samsung 8k tv 5k
i buy a new phone every year iPhone pro max 1tb, and trade in the old one.
iMac and MacBook i buy every 3ish years. iPad every other year.
tv, just got it. probably not going to buy another one anytime soon. had my old one for about 4 years. i just went from 4k to 8k.
Surprised how many people have dogshit TV's. Even the most expensive phone won't be as expensive as a good quality TV, and most PC's are great quality for under $2k.
What if you use a decent OLED, say a 42" LG OLED as your PC monitor and TV?
On an annualised basis it would definitely be phone>computer>TV. In terms of absolute value it would be computer>phone>TV.
New phone is ~$700 every 4 years. Computer is ~1000 every 8 years (although my last one I pushed to 10). TV, I have only ever bought one for $300 for a used 2011 model in 2015 and it is still kicking. Dark Game of Thrones episodes were almost unwatchable due to the lack of blacks but any show/movie not made solely for OLED contrast is perfectly fine.
I haven't bought a TV since 2012, repaired my Plasma a few years ago.
But when that finally breaks with some issue I'm not able to fix, I'll have to get an OLED which would put TV > PhoneLaptop free from work as work from home most of the time.
TV was about $1,500
Phone $350. The only non iphone user in my house and genuinely don't see how/why they are any better. Maybe the camera is a bit better.
Phone > Computer > TV
Assuming computer is not used for work; i.e. seperate company laptop/computer.
Order also reflects the time I spend on each platform
I answered tv, phone, computer but I want a new iPhone and it’s more than my tv which was $1190 with discounts on eBay. So I guess it’s phone but I haven’t bought one yet and wish they cost less or came with a good payment plan.
This is not a fair poll for me because I have a desktop and laptop, but only one phone and one tv.
I will frequently upgrade my phone (every 1-2 years), upgrade my computers less frequently (every 5 years perhaps), and have only ever bought one tv, which I don’t see myself upgrading anytime soon.
($1500) Laptop > ($300) Used Galaxy S10e > ($150) Used 2015ish LG 55" 1080p
I would never spend that much on a laptop again. They're all pieces of shit whether you spend $200 or $2000 so might as well go for the cheaper one, I'd probably spend about $400-500 on a 5-6 year old Thinkpad, and build a decent desktop that I can upgrade to suit needs.
My next phone will probably be closer to the $500 mark. Struggling to find anything to replace my dying S10e with though because phones these days are freaking big. I'm waiting to see what the Pixel 7a is like for now.
The TV is $150 but I have a Yamaha RX-V677 I got off Marketplace for $100, a $300 set of Mordaunt-Short Carnival 1/5/6 speakers, a $130 Wharfedale Vardus VR-SUB 10 subwoofer, and a CCWGTV. So it adds up to a lot more. I value good sound a lot more than picture but neither super highly.
$1100 Thinkpad Laptop > $1000 Phone > No TV
replace laptop on 5-year cycle
upgrade phone every 2 or 3 years, however my current Huawei P30 is turning 4 yr old, still going strong
no tv at the moment, just no need, if I end up buying a new one, I will use it until it breaks….Computer > TV > Phone, all being top of the range products (XPS 15 > Samsung 75 QLED > Galaxy S20 Plus) but 2 plus years older models bought from used market closer to one third of the original price). Can't be happier…😊
What did I spend more on? PC. But the upgrade occurs much less frequently than a phone, simply because the battery aspect of the phone.
Phone (gift but worth $1k), laptop (work but worth $3k), tv (none).
If I had to pay, it would be laptop (~$1.5k), phone (used phone for whatever I can get under $500, tv (probably wait for free not fully functioning tv on FB marketplace and spent $10 to fix it)
TV: 5.4k OLED + 2.2k QLED
PC: 4k
Phone: 2.4kFor intial cost, TV 1300, laptop 1200, phone 1100.
But TV is from 2013, laptop is new but replaced my 7 year old one and phone is new but replaced 4 year old one.
TV 2900 > Phone 1200 > Laptop 1100
Broke cheap ar$e here.
$370 new Ffalcon 55 tv.
$200 Motorola G82 from recent price error.
@ $370 for a Dell laptop bought new about 6 years ago. It's lower spec than my phone. No intention of replacing anything anytime soon but if I was, it would probably be an even split across them.
My PC, TV and phone are roughly 3 years old. They are low in priority (thanks to mortgage), with no plans to replace them soon.
PC ($1500+ still going strong brought at the start of COVID) > TV ($1000 brought mid COVID) > Phone ($500 normally $1000 brought with the $500 port to telstra gift card at JB)
Computer: 2.2k for box but around 4k with extra HDDs, monitors, arms, KB/mouse, etc. Somewhat amused that my MBP from work is also around this price.
TV: 3k (for family but if I had it my way, I wouldn't have one)
Phone: 700 (6-7yrs old now. Might upgrade to something in the 400-1k range but I don't see anything special yet and flagship models dropping microSD card support doesn't help)I use the computer the most by orders of magnitude so fitting that it costs the most.
Computer: Custom Built 7950x + 3090 + 64GB DDR5 + 12TB SSD and includes some used components (total cost $4216)
Laptop: Huawei Matebook X Pro ($1500)
Phone: S21 (got it for $600)
TV: Don't use. Other family members use a cheap TV ($800)Computer 3.5k > TV 2.5k > Phone 2k
PC - 4k, Phone- 1.5k , No TV.
Laptop - 5 years old, free through work.
Phone - 5 years old, paid $200.
TV - I have multiple TVs but my daily driver is a Sony Triniton circa 2010 46" LCD from a kerbside collection. My greatest hobby (tech) is ironically the thing i spend the least on. Because i don't need to when i get things dirt cheap or free. I don't care for having the latest and greatest stuff.
I paid just over $7000 for my computer Inc monitor, and I built it myself pre inflation prices. Complete custom water cooling loop end to end and I’m still making minor modifications. Phone comes second, TV last.
my pc is my tv so technically i lump that budget into my gaming pc i suppose which is twice the budget of both my daily phones
i guess im not gonna include my tablets since i stopped using them
if i had a good space for a tv i would probably get a nice big one but the pc combo is just too good to give up
pc - 3.8k
phones - 1.1k + 0.8k

Actually, they should. They were only ever as cheap as they were because the people mining the minerals (eg cobalt) were child slaves in Congo and the people manufacturing them were Chinese slaves locked in factories and debt bondage, with nets to stop them committing suicide by jumping.
If the people throughout the supply chain were paid fair wages an iPhone would cost $10k+
