dammit dude I already bought a Toshiba…stop tempting me.

I guess there's no SBS on this TV too…but too be honest the saving isn't as good as the Toshiba.

You can get the Sony KDL46EX650 for $1099 from DSE locally…so that's a saving of $232.00 but is it worth it for no SBS and lengthy warranty returns?

Then again is the EX655 a huge improvement over the EX650?

    • Re no SBS, couldnt you get it back using even the crappiest set top box?

      • +1

Yeah but then you have to use that crappy set top box.

        • exactly…and another remote…

        • +1

          Power, port used up…

        • you can use PS Play TV instead

  • Keep in mind Amazon pays the return and warranty is twice as long as in OZ.

    • I haven't read the other threads, but, I thought they only refunded the shipping fee. Is this the case or do they refund whatever it costs to ship it back?

    • How do you navigate this site if you don't speak German? I mean is there an English version?

  • Hah…there's a guy at work trying to sell a 2 year old 40" Bravia for $1200! Good luck mate!

  • Would somebody mind explaining the reception issues with SBS? Thanks.

From the other Toshiba Amazon.de thread:

"This TV only could get digital channels within VHF, but could not get any channel within UHF (because bandwidth is 7MHz in Australia, and 8MhZ in EU), so missing SBS and channel 9 3D free in some area."

      • If that's the case, the DTV will not work in some regional areas, eg Darwin, where Digital TV is delivered only in UHF. This might be worth noting on all imports from the UK… (the Sony PS3 Play TV imported from the UK had a similar problem).

    • Thanks ironpaw :)

  • tell em he's dreamin

    Meh- this is average.

The TV is only 50hz (100XR motionflow with sony's marketing)

Dick smith was selling a 46" Sony LED/LCD 50hz for $699-$899 last year- And there have been better deals on other 46" tvs from amazon in the past 2 weeks.

I know its been reduced but not everything on amazon.de is a bargain :p /

I hope you put your flamesuit on wbeer.
      <grabs popcorn>

    • The equivalent Australian model 46EX650 is $1098 online, so a $232 saving…

        $777 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60690

        and $699 through staff sale.

One caveat is that sony TVs are more expensive/ spec for spec than last year.

        http://www.amazon.de/LG-47LM620S-LED-Backlight-Fernseher-Eneā€¦

This LG is cheaper, 3D, 'better Hz'

I still think thats not a deal as equivilent TVs on amazon.de have been $200AUD less.

        • -1

LG does not seem to be shipped by Amazon.de anymore so the point you make is useless.

      • wbeer: that OzBargain link you provided for the ex520. And older model.

        • "One caveat is that sony TVs are more expensive/ spec for spec than last year."

Comparison of identical products anyone? Some people still do not get it. Is it not a saving as compared to the OZ price?

      • No need to get defensive- we are all trying to help each other.

The LG tv I listed was an example- you can do a simple Ozbargain search to see there have been alot better deals in the past. That was the point. (hardly useless)

And if we are going to post only deals in comparison to Oz prices - you might as well post every kogan/shopping square price that has ever been listed.

        • Yes, but Sony and LG are different products. I do know the Toshiba is more than $100 cheaper and has 3D but as I said before: some people like their brands and have different priorities. I do believe that a saving of over $200 is pretty good, especially since the model is newer than the one offered at DS.

        • Sony doesnt make panels anymore - their TV business is turning losses and they are cost cutting. Samsung and LG have dedicated factories and depending on model are probably a safer bet. ie. Sony Tvs are branded - LG/Samsung Tvs are made inhouse (for the most part.

Im not saying this isnt a good price- but its not a bargain like has been posted before (by others or by yourself).

    • So the 100XR motionflow is not TRUE 100hz TV?

Dang. What about Samsung's UA46ES5500M? THat is priced similarly to the Sony 46EX650 - Samsung lists it as haing 100hz - so is it REALLY a 100hz TV?

      • no only 50hz….you need to get the ua46eh6000 or ua46es6200 and up

Sony dont make a 100hz tv for Australia this year , at least so far anyway..

The word is equivalent, not identical. And some people prefer one brand, one brand only (Apple fanbois come to mind here!). I know people who only buy Sharp, or Sony, or Toshiba, and then there are others who do not care as long as they get good value for money and high quality.
Let everybody decide for themselves and stop making historical comparisons - if you cannot get the price now it is not that useful to somebody who wants to buy something now and not in the past.
In the past the exchange for British pounds to OZ dollars was 8 to 1 and I am sure the English want that back but that is no good now when I want to visit Australia now, is it? And if you want to wait until the rate is like that again, have fun waiting!

  • I will buy something from this site, anyone wanna share the postage (International express). I live Sydney area (NSW 2196). 20% deposit of purchasing price required and the balance (including shared postage) can be paid upon pickup. anyone is interested? , contact me via PM

    • All this trouble is going to save you how many $$? And how does someone claim warranty if the product is in your name?

    • That's a fair degree of trouble and risk you're exposing yourself to, all to save about $20.

Enjoy the much greater saving than that you're getting on this, and just pay the postage yourself.
