My Dell SFF i5 4th gen finally died, decided to get this because it looks small and cute. Similar model M720Q has been cheaper but less RAM, no wifi and only 3 months warranty. Win 11 on a USB drive is a nice bonus. I originally planned to get a more mordern PC, but I need a replacement ASAP, this one looks fine, price is okay, and can use it as a HTPC later. I have bought a laptop from these guys before and the fan was making weird noises under no load; shot them a message and returned it no dramas.

  • REFURB in title please.

    • soz mate fixed

  • We had similar ones at work till they swapped to laptops as we started wfh. And they were ok.

As a htpc its not a bad setup either.

Compared to the recent Optiplex 7060 micro deal, this looks…expensive.

    • -1

Unfortunately, my needs don't perfectly align with deals posted on OzB.

    • I agree. I got an Optiplex 7050 with i5-7500t for $180. With 8GB RAM. Upgrade to 16GB was $20–30.

Not sure how much more powerful this model is though?

      • 7500t is 4 cores, 8500t is 6 cores, however my price for 8gb version & no build in wifi was $237 so yes this seems about $80 too much :)

p.s. also not sure you can get win 11 with the 7th gen, can you?

        • +1

You can install Windows 11, but it is not officially supported and there is no guarantee of future support.

      • No official Win 11 support with 7th Gen Intel processors though, thus the price premium for 8th Gen gear.

  • does it have a hard disk or is 256Gb an SSD?

    • It says in the listing..?

(Also, do 256GB HDDs still exist?)

    • should be 256gb SSD as I have these in my workplace.

  • Anyone can comment on the power consumption? Idle and under load?

    • +1

I have some similar USFF PCs, they are ~16watts idle, ~30watts under load.

It's probably expensive compared to the dell offering

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295260039064

Going for around $300 with the same specs (without wifi)

    • Saw that. Only 2 left and I've been using dells for years, wanted to switch it up. It was either this or the HP

    • Yeah but no PCIe slot

  • yesterday I received precisely this machine from a previous (ebay) deal (another seller). After an hour or two of installing windows and setting it up (yes I checked bios but couldnt see what cpu explicitly stated, just some weird codes) I've discovered it has 8400T rather than 8500T. What should I do? I dont really wanna send it back after all that time setting it up but it is an inferior CPU that does not reflect what I ordered :) Shall I just ask for like $20 back or something or what would be appropriate? Any advice?

    • +4

I'd ask for a partial refund. The speed difference would be negligible.

      • ok, did "return request", however wrote them nicely that all I want is actually $20 as a difference between 8400T and 8500T - this should prompt them to act rather than just email, also I think I am being reasonable, will see how I go :)

        • +1

should have not put price in the refund
          and see what they offer.

          • @pinkybrain: yeah, got my $20 already, I am okay w that, coz I really didnt wanna go through any return/reinstall process, this is a good compromise for me, maybe I could have scored more but honestly how much more :)

btw - that means I've scored 8400T w 8/256gb for $217 which makes this deal here 'not that good' - saying it mildly

  • I wonder what the dongle is for, given it has inbuilt wifi?

  • Antenna is a good idea. Could be a good astrophotography computer. Decent amount of USB ports.

[ - ] 3 months warranty lets potential customers know the seller is not really interested in after-sales support.

I did some very quick research before buying this:

I think this was the last deal for a 7060: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751847 which was back in January. 180 days warranty, not bad.

Currently, cheapest 7060 is this one with no wifi for $300: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295260039064. 90 days warranty

Similar model, no wifi: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760257. 3 months warranty

The one I posted has 16GB RAM, what appears to be OEM wifi and cost me $342. 12 month warranty, and I have dealt with them before. This was a time-senistive purchase and needed it to be sent express today. I think this is a fantastic deal considering my circumstances.

  • At 16GB, this puts it better than many pcs that are much cheaper new.

  • I believe the lenovo are quite sort after in the mini server community. I'm unsure if this model is the same but the difference usually is that the ram and m2 slots are on the bottom of the board. Sometimes there are two m2 slots. This makes room for a PCIe 16 slot on the top side of the board which people have managed to get graphics cards into for hardware encoding of video for plex/jellyfin.

    • don't think GPU would fit this

    • Adding a GPU for jellyfin/Plex transcoding isn't necessary for these, just a waste of money and extra power consumption.

The 8500T can HW transcode very well on its own with it's iGPU quick sync support.
