Too many oled deals not enough walls

    • +1

      How about ceilings?

      • +16

        That would cover the mirrors.

        • Add a webcam?

    • +1

I have a wall or two you could hang one on.

    • What's the difference?

    • +1

Was referring to the 42C2 in the description :)

The 65C2 isn't on sale here, so not as cheap.

  • im confused the deal is for the C2 right for $1095 right??

    • +1

      Sure is!

    • +1

The deal is for 42” C2 only not other sizes

  • +3

Rip, just bought the 42" C2 for $1400 couple weeks ago 😢

    • +3

Ahh that sucks. But you still got a good deal
      imho!!! Enjoy

    • +2

Where from? If it's JB they'll refund you the difference if it's within 14 days.

      • Oh, thanks ill give it a try!!

      • +2

Thanks alot @basketballfreak6, I am technically 15 days out… But they refunded the $300 difference through online chat - I bought it online as i am 800kms from a store LOL. Another note, it was only $16 postage, which is wack.

        Great customer service!

  • +1

Been lookng for a 48" at these new low price points but they seam to be out of stock everywhere

    • got mine around December Sale C2 48 for around $1700 think it was. Just know the 48inch C2 is same shape as C1 and 55inch is updated and also brighter screen then 48inch (confusing why they did that)

      • Yeah, heard all sorts of mixed specs with 48" inch.

48" was around $1500 a few weeks back, but then I got distracted on this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760504 and missed the deal. Got the wall mount ready through :-)

    • +2

Why would you want 48"? For a monitor 42" is better and for a TV 55" is better.

  • +1

Dodged a bullet with the ebay deal and could not resist on this :)

    • +2

Yeah honestly not buying this, but feels a lot better to get it from JB rather than eBay store.

Edit: Powerland cancelled orders? "LAST ONE!" in the title must have been true then lol.

      • When you click on the sales for the powerland auction, they only show 2 sales from the 38. I wonder if they actually only had 2 or if that's just ebay restricting how many you can see?

  • +1

Is there any major difference between the CS and the C2? Usually about $500 between them

    • +2

      Different panels.

    • +2

By all reports the c2 can get slightly brighter and that’s about it.

    • +3

Afaik the CS has the C1 panel and the C2 processor

    • Yes and these later C2s have Evo panels which is great.

  • Thanks OP. Bought with 5% vouchers

  • Still holding out for the 83" to go on sale…

    • +2

G2 83" is on sale, cheaper than the C2. But needs to be wallmounted :(

      • Have always avoided wall mounting as the cavity is too small for cables to fit through. Could always leave them exposed I guess. But yeah the discount is not close to enough

    • +1
    • +2

How long you been holding out for? I got my 83" c2 for just under $6k on the 29th of Jan using the 15% off with soundbar purchase + 10% off sale + discounted GC @ 3% off then refund of the soundbar.

  • +14

The 42 is cheaper than those gamer OLEDs.

    • +3

Yeah the prices for OLED gaming monitors are completely absurd. Unfortunately this trend is unlikely to change soon, if ever. Small OLED TVs like the C2 will remain the best value option for a while.

  • guys, is it worth waiting it out for the C2 or A80K 77in to go on sale? has 77in ever dropped to low 3000s? or is high 3K the limit for the price drops? thanks in adv

    • I would be stunned if the 77" ever went anywhere near $3000

      • I don't think we will get one around 3k probably 3.5k at most. Here's hoping by black Friday

  • Nice one OP. AFAIK that's the cheapest advertised price on the 77 G2 thus far (could get a little cheaper with the JB soundbar combo deal recently, if you flogged off the SB).

  • apparently 42inch c2 uses same panel as c1

    • +3

From about May 2022 onwards the 42" uses a WBE panel which is the new evo panel
The earlier 42" C2 were using the older type of WBC panel which was still great

      • Thank CB2, is there a way to double check this? I'm presuming a JB HiFi stock bought yesterday would be the WBE panel but you never know where they are pulling stock out from

  • Thanks OP, I’m considering buying the 42” to replace my current 3 x 24” monitors setup.

What are people’s thoughts? I’ve never used a TV before as a monitor.

Would primarily be for work use, watch media & play video games via a console.

    • +2

If you use Excel then it is a game changer for not needing to scroll left and right for those bigger spreadsheets. It is more a flexible setup compared with 2 utrawide monitors. Do watch out for screen burn ins though.

      • Thanks @wtfnodeal

    • Only thing holding me back is the gloss finish for reflections. Matte would be much better for me…
      Still TV is tempting

  • OLED is the real deal. Got one last year and didn't look back.

    • +7

      Even when reversing?

      • +7

        Dad ?

      • +1

Of course not. Imagine your reverse camera on a 4K 42” OLED screen, you can even avoid rolling over an ant when reversing.

  • +2

G2 65" $2655 after 5% Bupa gift cards. Pulled the trigger.

    • G2 worth it over the cs ?

      • +3

it honestly depends on your use case. I'm buying for a new, small apartment so I want to wall mount it flush to maximise space. it's also a little brighter, and has a 5 year panel warranty. So if that's worth the extra to you then maybe? if you're not wall mounting go the CS or C2 I'd say

        • Excellent advice, thanks Moses. CS 77” is tempting!

  • +1

Is this C2 42" a good PC monitor?

The specs on jb hifi say: "Refresh Rate (Hz) 100"

But other parts of the ad says 120hz, so I wonder which it is?

    • +2

      It's 120hz

    • Just bought one and have been using as a monitor for last three days. Taking a little getting used to, might be a touch big. It is 120hz apparently but careful on the source. My 2070 super only outputs HDMI 2.0 so I don’t believe I get the benefit.

    • +2

Create a custom resolution profile in Nvidia settings, I have mine @ 120hz output

  • +1

Do these CS models have C1 panel or G1 ?

  • Damn that’s a good price on the 42”!

If only I could fit it on my desk and/or sim rig

  • I just bought A80J last week :(((

    • +1

Me too. Why crying though? I would have thought A80J is a better panel than the CS.

      • my bad, i thought this was a C2 deal!

  • Anyone have a concern with how short LG warranties are for their TV's, its only 1 year

    • -1

LG warranty is worse than Samsung anyway in my experience.

    • +7

Warranties don't mean shit when you have Australian Consumer Law protections. I've had a panel replaced well outside of warranty.

      • +3

Yea my C1 panel randomly shat itself about 6 months in and the tech that came out to fix it told me LG should honour warranty even after 3 years.

@MKBHD just my own personal experience but when I had to ring LG for my panel the phone support was actually super helpful even stayed on the phone waiting for me to upload relevant images and documents so he could book me in then and there instead of having me to call back again.

    • +4

Can also provide a positive story on LG OLED warranty. My dad's B8 65" randomly died in 2020, outside the 1yr warranty, but they not only fixed it but sent the repairer out to his place in rural Victoria to take care of it on-site rather than having to bring it to them. It did take them a month go-to-woah, but it was Christmas time (died on Dec 20 IIRC) so fairly understandable

    • LG replaced my 65C6 screen with burn in for free at the 2.5 year mark with no hassles, so no concern about the warranty length on the box.

  • +4

Thanks OP, order was cancelled by Powerland. Much prefer JB anyway.

Might be one of the last chances to get a LG OLED with guaranteed access to the service menu which may be severely crippled on the C3 — as per video posted by user deadpoet in the other thread https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYu5ACe_ln0

I switched off auto update on my other C2 in case they try any funny business over the air

    • What's the good thing about service menu that you can tinker with?

      • +2

In certain situations/certain scenes the picture gradually dims over the course of several minutes — LG's software isn't smart enough to do it appropriately. So some people like to disable this automatic dimming functionality by purchasing a service remote and accessing the service menu. See the linked HDTVTest video.

In the C3, it looks like they have removed this service menu to stop people from doing that (at least on the pre-production sample models, it's not confirmed yet if this is the case on the final production models since they're not out).

  • Wouldnt mind 42 as a pc monitor but text is shit

    • It's not nearly as bad as people make out imo

      • Its not good on my 55 b8 and my 65 c9 which is slightly better. Maybe the newer models have improved text ?

    • +3

Had the same issue. Even thought of returning it. Until I messed with all the settings, that is.

Here is what's working for me:

      1. Use the Standard Picture mode.
      2. Turn off all the OLED Care options - this will make the burn-in worse, I guess. But it is needed.
      3. Reduce the contrast to about 80 or so. The lower you go, the better the text appears.
      4. Color to 50.
      5. Sharpness to 0.
      6. Turn off all picture optimisations: Noise Reduction, MPEG, AI Picture Opitimisation, Motion Care etc. In other words, start with turning any and all settings you could find.
      7. Turn off everything except TruMotion in the Clarity section.
      8. Set video range to limited - needed in my case. You may not need it based on your drivers.
      9. Force Aspect Ratio to 16:9 and turn on Just Scan
        1. Optionally, turn on the Game Mode, and play around with Game Settings and then turn it off. I noticed some of the settings remain even after turning it off.

It took me hours to find what worked for me. Hopefully, this will same someone a bit.

BTW, I don't know how worse the burn in will be. Or, how to manage it. I am just working around by trying to not use the full screen, move the windows around, set all the themes to dark mode and reduce web browsing on that machine. Appreciate any tips on this side.

  • First time under $3.9k for 77"??

    • Fairly sure. Sony had a deal a while ago for around $4100 - $4200 which seemed a no brainer at the time, but IIRC you needed to be a student to get it. But to be fair the Sony is arguably the better tv regards to picture quality, but the LG is better if you game.

      • -1

Well, Sony definately wins in my books for warranty but I had LG CS 65" side by side with Full Array Sony 65". Sony picture is not very good.
The OLED 77" range from Sony just doesn't seem as good value, I rather a LG CS. It might have a better processor but picture wise LG still wins.
Sony has google TV built-in but I use a firestick anyway, it does not matter. WebOS is of course inferior

Just wondering how much lower it will go down

  • +1

    Do i or don't I :/

  • -1

Anyone know what the difference is CS and C2?

    • Different panel.

    • +1

CS uses the old C1 panels (i.e. no OLED Evo) but with the newer C2 processor. So it's a bit like a C1.5, if you will.
      https://www.techradar.com/news/the-mysterious-lg-cs-oled-tv-…

      • Huge price difference for C2 and CS though. I don't see the price difference justify 3k in price. for 77"

        • Yeah it depends on which model is on sale at the time, a lot of retailers only seem to discount specific models rather than the entire range which can be annoying.

If I remember right the price difference between the 55" LG CS and C2 is usually around $200-250 when they're on sale, so I'm not sure if the same goes for the 77" model or if the price difference is much greater — in which case, yep the CS model would be the one to go for.

  • Am I going to regret jumping on the Sony 55 a80j a couple weeks back?

    • +3

if you payed the lower prices a couple of weeks back no way.

    • +1

      Sony is better.

      • +1

I heard better for movies but not so much on gaming. Also Sony warranty is better than LG.

Sony's design is not very good with standing legs needing wide bench and LG centre stand much more sturdy

        • +1

heard the same, but its quite minor between the two. Sony has great image processing tech although i've heard the LG panel is a bit better. I ended up getting the Sony panel and haven't looked back. A good deal is a good deal. It's a win win situation getting a high quality OLED

        • I need the wide legs because I altered my tv unit by taking out a central support so I could house my AVR in there. Wide legs ftw!

          • -1

@Lululuke: Wide legs don't work for me. I have a proper cabinet the width doesn't go much wider for those slimy legs Sony comes with

  • still paying off the 75 but damn a 42 pc monitor sounds like the go. anyone know the cheapest graphics card with hdmi 2.1?

    • RTX 3060 for nvidia cards I'm pretty sure
Would be fine for productivity and lightroom kinda stuff if that's what youre looking for
Can probably have an ok gaming experience at 4k, but would need a better card to make the most of that 120fps
