  • G5 announced - no official reviews but seems to be using newer tech with up to 40% increased brightness

    • +6

How much more brightness one need!

    • +1

I have the G4 and it's PLENTY bright

    • And no MLA.

      • The G5 removes MLA

        • Yes. This is what rTings has to say (also article discusses Rtings view of CES 2025 Tvs)

LG has abandoned the MLA technology they've used for the last two years to increase the brightness of their top-tier OLEDs. Although they didn't talk about the exact panel technology used, we've learned through Panasonic's announcement that these TVs use a new 4-layer tandem RGB panel. This new OLED structure is designed to drastically improve the purity of the three primary colors and increase the overall brightness of the display. This should also result in significantly improved color volume, with less washout at high luminance levels.
LG calls this new, brighter OLED panel Brightness Booster Ultimate. They claim that it delivers up to 3x the brightness of conventional models, giving a 10% window on the LG B5 as an example. We found the G4 to be approximately 2.1x brighter than the B4 with a 10% window, so these claims don't seem too far-fetched. You'll find this new panel on the G5 and M5 models, but sadly, only on the 55", 65", 77", and 83" sizes. The 48" and 97" models of each don't get this new panel.

    • The newer model uses newer tech? :O

  • +8

    6k for 77". Nope

    • +1

Actually I believe the resolution is 4K 😅

      • +1

        I meant ~$6000

Lg website has it for $5849 and you can also use 10% coupon(spin & win) which brings down $,5265.hope this helps!

    • +1

You are checking the wrong model, it is listed at 6,499.

      • May be because it is a vip account ,which is why it is giving me this price.

    • You are assuming you have a spin and win coupon..

      • And a VIP account..

        • Sorry,Not trying to show off guys, was trying to help.here is the proof

    • +1

That price is significantly better than any previous price posted here, why would you not post it?

      • I walked into the store and got a bargain on boxing day. May not be advertised and now the price has gone up.

        • +1

You should have posted. I find it a bit rich to rip on this guys price when you got a price that was never advertised and you never posted to allow others to benefit from your price, eg posting the receipt. Your price is so good I'm wondering if you are mistaking it for the C4

          • +3

@donkcat: Pretty sure you can’t post negotiated deals

          • +6

@donkcat: oh- all my bad. I just rechecked the receipt and its C4 and not G4 - my apologies

            • @smiles: That okay bargain but the G4 is a different beast. It has MLA. Now the G5 is on whole another level.

            • @smiles: Nice price but yeah not quite as ground breaking as the G4 at that price would be. Thanks for checking

            • +1

@smiles: +1 for checking, would've been one of the best deals of 2024 if it was indeed a G4

              • +1

                @Paul Atreides: Thanks @Paul Atreides - I feel I still saved $2K on my C4.

                • @smiles: No matter how much people harp on about the G series like as if it's a G wagon AMG, I still to this day don't think the price premium is justified over the C class commoner pleb model.

                  • +1

@Maths Debater: I'm torn between the C and G series - yes the G is much more expensive but has a 5 year panel warranty, better brightness and can be mounted much closer to the wall.

                    • @wheelieb1n: And that's exactly it. All you're paying for is higher peak brightness and 5 year panel warranty. It ultimately comes down to if you think that's worth $1,580 (going by the current AC price).

                      • @Maths Debater: Why does everyone forget the flush wall mount fixing with the G series

            • @smiles: You could not remember you bought a C4 instead of a G4?

              • @entropysbane: Lol - no @entropysbane - this post confused me, but yeah - I did not wanted to pay more $$. So settled for C series I believe when I was looking at.

          • @donkcat: Half the time when you post really good deals you end up ruining it for everyone, especially if it’s dodgy

    • I didn't see that pricing anywhere, advertised or not. Who from.

    • Wow that's a solid 5k savings.

    • You sure it wasn't a C4 at that price?

    • pics or it never happened

    • +1

      C4 maybe, G4 I doubt it.

      • 100% it was a c4. even last year's model didn't go to that price

    • press X to doubt

  • Same price at Videopro with a $300 in store credit. Unfortunately pre-order though.

  • Surely 65inch goes down to 3k

  • Is this not a good deal - OLED83C4PSA LG 83 INCH OLED evo C4 4K Smart TV - $5950

    • That’s a C4.

      • should post it, I'm sure it'll blow up

    • very different matey.

      • Is it that difference? I thought the main difference was form factor, that it sits flatter to the wall when mounted, the technical spec differences are negligible.

    • Not really. JB were selling 83” C4’s for 4.5k 6 months ago

      • I don’t think we will see anything closed to that price anymore.

  • The price jump between 65" and anything bigger seems too large to justify.

    Diminishing returns.

    • +5

      77” TV is 40% bigger than a 65”
      83” TV is 63% bigger than a 65”

      • +1

Ok, I stand corrected. I didn't see it that way.

Now I'm more confused in making a decision to buy an OLED!

    • Yes I bought the 65 inch C4 on those grounds (roughly $1000 at the time as I recall) plus space concerns. Also 65 inch seemed big as we would have been coming from 50 inch.
But after six months I kinda wish I had found the extra $1000. We sit a fair way back from the screen.

      • I have a 65" LED and had the exact same realisation.

Which TV could you have gone for that was only 1K more that was also an OLED?

        • C4. Very happy with it apart from the tiny regret on screen size.
I don’t think it worth the further jump to G4.
Maybe the Samsung S90D, but I want Dolby vision and DTS, and I thought the Sammy a bit too saturated for my taste. YMMV.

          • +1

@entropysbane: Ok thanks. I'm seeing/hearing about various features, which is making the decision much more complicated than initially thought.

The problem with buying a TV (from experience) is that its way too easy to figure out a lot of things when its too late.

      • If you sit too far, it defeats the purpose of having 4k, as you wouldn't see the difference between your TV and a second hand FHD plasma, at least in a reasonably dark room.

  • Videopro also has it for $5980, with a $300 gift card (not clear, but I assume for videopro).
    Plus shipping. $90 for me.
    https://www.videopro.com.au/product/lg-77-oled77g4psa-oled-e…

Not sure that is a deal or not. I suppose the gift card could pay for a wall mount.

  • PSA: C and G aren't the same letter.

    • Tell us more…

  • Going off previous years I’m pretty sure we’ll see sub-$5000 deals for the G4 77” in the next few months, as LG clears stock following the release of this year’s new models.

  • damn, really hope our 77" LG oled we bought back in 2023 doesn't die anytime soon. Cost us under $3k back then, double the price for the same size??

ahhh G4 not C4… makes sense!

    • Still, 77" C4 for under 3K only a year ago sounds like a great deal!
