One of the top-rated amplifiers by cheapaudioman:

https://youtu.be/SGBMIs7r1II

Best price I’ve seen by far (I’m crying inside) from the Aiyima store.

I have one. It drives my 3-way 10” vintage JBL LX55 8 ohm speakers beautifully. The 100W of power is plenty.

Took about 2 weeks to arrive.

I use them for music (vinyl over RCA + HiRes audio over optical toslink) and for TV and home theatre and they sound great. Great DAC. The Bluetooth sound is rubbish though (I’ve removed the aerial completely) - sound like cotton wool in your speakers.

Probably the best bang for buck amp on the market.

I plan to roll the 6K4 tubes to some Soviet and GE tubes to see if I can get a TINY bit more air at the top but it sounds incredible. Tons of detail and oomph. Great from classical to metal to hip-hop to electronic. If you have really nice speakers and you REALLY pay attention to the tiny details I think they’re missing 1% of air at the highest registers of treble. This is only even apparent on HiRes lossless digital and vinyl, so if you’re using Spotify, even CD, this is of absolutely no concern to you anyway.

If you don’t already stream music via your TV or Apple/Android/Chromecast, check out WIIM Mini for AirPlay and Bluetooth instead of built in Bluetooth (though the inbuilt works fine, and depends how much you care about the slightly muted sound cuz Bluetooth audio isn’t good anyway).

One of my favourites to test for the really fine trails of air is to listen to “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson, and listen to the airy trails of audio and reverb off the ends of his words. Motown hits have that great production.

I can't listen to MJ anymore after watching Leaving Neverland.

        • +1

Have not seen it yet. Was it worth it?

  • Detail on acoustic guitar, orchestras, the airy punch of a nice kick drum (eg We Will Rick You) sounds bloody amazing on this amp.

What 30V power supply are you using to get the Max rated 100W? I assume the one that its shipped with, a 24V, will not produce the maximum 100W output.

    • Haven’t upgraded PSU or looked into it yet. Just quoting rated power. I’m just using a completely stock unit so far.

  • Nearly bought this but realised I kinda need the subwoofer out for my 2.1.. Any idea which Class D amp to get that has RCA input on the side just like this one?

    • Watch the video above. You can output to sub using a 3.5 to RCA cable.

      • +1

You're right! I didn't check thoroughly. Also this one does not come with AU power supply, hence it's very cheap? When I picked the EU Plug price went up..

        • I would like to know this as well

  • This T9 Can't be used for turntables/vinyl record player

    • +3

Not without the Phono Stage, but for entry level tables with built in phono should work okay I think..

    • …or you can buy a phono preamp to put before the RCA input (plenty recommended on cheapaudioman - there’s a Fosi Audio unit relatively cheap). This is essentially a component amp, not integrated, but it does bundle a lot of features in one.

Use code AN5 thanks to Clear for extra $5 US off

After watching the cheapaudioman video above, I saw their newer video that compared this Aiyima vs Douk Audio ST-01 (and Pro). I'd probably go with the Douk for that remote alone. I reckon they're both pretty much the same product just ever so slightly different accessories.

Edit 1: Douk also doesn't go to sleep as quickly as the Aiyima T9 (which got fixed on T9 Pro)
Edit 2: Ended up buying this Douk ST-01 With adapter and add AN9 Code, paid in USD using no fee card, got charged AU$112.82. I feel that it's a better deal due to the remote..

Edit 3: My bad, both Douk and Aiyima have remote.. D'oh..

    • Is the adaptor plug 240V Australian type

      • Not sure, usually this kind of brick has 110-240 switching, but I've sent a message to the seller anyway just in case.

        • Deleted to replace

      • Confirmed that I’m getting Australian plug and they also mentioned they’ve fixed the bluetooth delay issue too. Worth confirming with them regarding the plug if you’re looking to buy..

        • Thanks for the heads up on the Douk, looks good. So the seller automatically provide AU plug based on destination?
Wondering better to get a AU power adapter locally (Amazon or Ebay) but not sure what is compatible? DC 24v 3A it seems

          • @hen dawg: I think the seller by default will give you CN plug, but if you ask, they'll give you AU.
I'd probably get their adapter and call it a day, not much extra $ anyway. Unless you can source decent quality DC supply (router or ethernet switch usually have very clean supply). This unit takes up to 30V..

            • @piupiupiu: Cheers, best play it safe

            • @piupiupiu: CN plug is an AU plug, only upside down (so no difference when using IEC cables)

    • Newer T9 has the auto power of situation improved/disabled I’ve heard. But I got an old one and it barely bothers me. It is lacking sensitivity so it might go into standby when just clicking through YouTube with only the very mild “boop” but it comes back fast enough. And the auto standby definitely does something cuz it reduces the heat output of the unit considerably.

  • I currently have a Raspberry Pi with a JustBoom DAC Hat running Rune Audio to play high res FLAC files via a Yamaha RX-V1085 AVR (connected via RCA cables) out to some sweet Sonique SAV-5 SE speakers (did Sonique make a bad speaker?).

Sounds great to my ears but this has peaked my interest.

What improvements do you think I would hear connecting the RPi to this, then on to my speakers?

    • Tube Amps are known to give a more warm sound to your music. Apparently works better with some output devices than others.
I.e. The Sennheiser HD600 series works really well with a tube, but most Planar Magnetic cans dont.
Though I cant say for certain, how they fare on speakers, or in general really, I still havent gotten around to getting one myself.

      • That would be because the high imepdance dynamic driver headphones take advantage of the voltage strength and control of a tube amp, without running into issues with the high output impedance.

Planar drivers are low impedance and current hungry by comparison.

    • +1

I think the tube won't as much difference since it's got IC solid state class D amplifying circuit, unlike a proper giant push pull 300B amp or OTL tube amp.
Only improvement I could think of, this would probably use less electricity compared to your AVR..

    • if I had that setup I would replace the DAC hat with a digital out hat that allows you to connect digitally to the Yamaha (optical or spdif) and have the DAC in the yamaha do the conversion.

digital out Hats are cheap, as cheap as this amp, and yamaha stuff sounds the best, in my experience/opinion.

e: i have 2x rpis running dac hats with volumio.

      • if I had that setup I would replace the DAC hat with a digital out hat that allows you to connect digitally to the Yamaha (optical or spdif) and have the DAC in the yamaha do the conversion.

This - @cliffo the analogue connection is adding noise/distortion to your signal - best to keep the analogue part of the chain as short as possible (amp to speakers).

  • sorry dumb question - do i need this if I already have a Topping DX3 Pro? Or can i connect them up somehow for headphones?

    • +1

I don't think it's dumb question, but technically it has a line out (aux out) and you can split it into RCA that goes into your Topping, but I wouldn't do that since I think that Topping's DAC is much better compared to this. You can however flip it the other way around, use the Topping as your main DAC and headphones amp, and connect the RCA out of the Topping that goes into this Aiyima's RCA In to drive your speakers..

    • You’d probably take the stereo RCA out of the Topping into the RCA input of the Aiyima T9. I think the Topping will have a better DAC. And then you can solely run the Topping when you only need headphones. And this may give you an even better experience with the Topping DAC improvement.

It doesn’t work well the other way around because the aux out on the T9 is post-volume, and it has no way to disable the speakers. So the aux out on the T9 should really be labelled “sub out” cuz it’s not useful for much else (other than maybe multi room audio). That’s a bit of a shortcoming if the T9 design - I wish it had a line out and a way to disable speakers, cuz there’s no way to integrate a headphone amp post-DAC. Consider the T9 DAC as a bonus rather than a core feature.

    • Oh, but if you’re just using headphones, then no you should t buy this. Your Topping does it all. If you want to also add an amp and speakers to your Topping, this could be a good option.

  • Hi all,
i'm wondering if someone could help me out. I have this Pro-Ject Turntable which has an inbuilt amplifier, but i'm wondering if it's worth adding this little tube amplifier to make it a little more gutsy. The back of my turntable looks like this. There are three in puts and one output which goes to my speakers. Is it possible for those outputs to go through amp? Any ideas?

i found a proper image here

    Thanks for any advice!

    • Whoa didn't know Pro-Ject made something crazy like this!
Unfortunately you can't use the speaker plug for that purpose, you need a Line Out / RCA out.

      • damnnnn
the new models have a line out, but i have an old one.
it's still cool cos they turntable didn't need a separate amp, but now that i want to give it a boost it's a bit limiting. still sounds okay.

        thanks anyway!

        • +1

Might be able to get a feed out before the phono pre-amp but you’d have to open the unit up (someone else might have a step by step)

  • Always want a tube amp, but is this one is real tube amp? Cause I did research before, the tube on the budget one is mainly for a look, when you remove the tube, the sound is pretty much the same.

I got the SMSL AD18, is this one is an upgrade? If I want to stretch my budget a bit more, any better option?

    • I'd say the tubes on this one is mostly for aesthetics, may not change the sonic signature. In my experience most Chinese made hybrid amps sounds pretty similar to Chinese made solid state amps. I wouldn't call this unit an upgrade though, I suspect the SMSL has a way better bluetooth implementation too..

    • I have some chinese hi-fi cheap amp and dac(smsl, xduoo, rod rain), i can't see big difference between them, all very good sound. Don't waste your money, i know the tubes looks beautiful ☺️

      • the tubes are on the input stage… ie. they add to the sound BEFORE It gets sent to the digital amp output stage

    • Not actually a tube amp as-such. The tubes are buffers prior to the pre-amp. They do influence the sound to some extent, because people tube roll them to better quality tubes to improve the sound signature. I haven’t fully gotten my head around it, but it’s more than just cosmetic. But the biggest part of the signal chain is the op-amp chips inside the unit. So I’d say they’re adding a colouration and character between the digital signal and the amplifier. I’ll try find an actual tube amp for comparison.

  • Top YT comment (appears below the pinned comment) tells you to buy the redesigned T9 Pro model instead.

For those of you who might be coming to this review in early 2023 — you probably heard about some issues with this product; they've been fixed in the T9 Pro, which I think is superior in other respects too. There is also a Douk Audio model called the ST01 / ST01 Pro, which is a very similar piece but even cheaper.

This video compared T9 vs T9 Pro.
T9 clicking and 10-second sleep timer issues
    T9 IR remote control issues

    • Keep in mind T9 Pro isn’t using same tubes or op-amp chips. I’m yet to find much solid support of the T9 Pro (or anything against it).

  • I've used one for a PC desktop setup, driving two warfdale bookshelf speakers. Using the onboard DAC. I agree with all the positive comments.

Only negative is it makes a clicking noise sometimes when changing songs or starting up. A few class D amps are prone to this.

    • The clicking sound is just a standby relay. My Yamaha receiver is full of similar sounds. I’m not sure why people make such a thing of it (not saying you are). It’s not a pop through the speakers or anything. Just a very quiet mechanical click in the unit itself as the unit goes in and out of standby (you hear it in/out of auto-standby, or when you turn the volume to zero). It’s a cute steam-punky vintage sound to me.

  • BEWARNED!
the auto sleep, click noise feature !!!!!

I have been using mine with PC for the past year, and this is a major problem for many ppl.
If you only buying it for music, rigged up with a player in a living room, that's fine. But any other usage with this unit might be problematic such as , voice chat, watching normal yt videos, gaming.

Basically, the unit shuts itself momentarily after it doesn't get any audio signal (like 4,5 seconds). And it turns on with a delay after getting new signals, and it is this delay makes this unit unusable for many applications.

I have looked up this issue extensively, and there is no way to mod it (hardware way). So if anyone that is going to use it with a PC, and has this issue, I have a bandaid method.

ah, whats more the IR remote, the IR on this unit is really bad, somehow it manage to work with my air-conditioner and fan as well and vise versa, like if i am to turn on my fan (viomi fan) with its remote, the T9 somehow sense it as well. so does my air-con's remote.

    • Ahhh yes PC. That explains why it drives people nuts. I have no issue with at for music and home theatre (mildly noticeable).

    • I use a Genio WiFi universal remote, $30, and have taught my Apple TV remote to control its volume. Too many remotes around anyway. Works well with any universal remote. The included remote does suck.

    • So if anyone that is going to use it with a PC, and has this issue, I have a bandaid method

      Yeah whats that?

  • Those have got to be 100 mini watts. Has anybody tested it? Professionally I mean, with an audio analyzer.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nokHMIDeVlM

    • its more like combined 50W, saw it somewhere before , definitely not 100W

  • @OP you have the LX55! What a great speaker, I had a pair of them for years before (sadly) moving them on after upgrading as they were just sitting around. Better for someone else to enjoy them, but I still shed more than a few tears when their new owner drove off with them.

They run rings around so much rubbish produced nowadays, you have to spend a lot to get better.

    • +1

I found them on the side of the road! $40 foam replacement later…

Still can’t believe my luck. My most prized possession.
