nice was just watching tech Jesus' new video on this

  • bang for buck Thermalright are on the money here,

  • Good Cooler, Good Price.

Bought one of these for a build i did last weekend, FYI this won't fit with a Gigabyte Aorus Z690 Ultra Lite DDR4. The radiator comes into contact with the SSD heatsinks built into the board.

That said, even the standard Intel cooler was a bloody tight fit.

    • Yep, the plastic on the stock cooler is touching the heatsink below on mine, I know it's ITX but not the best layout imo.

    • That's strange - i installed the PA SE on my z690I ultra lite ddr4 last night and didn't seem to have any issues - though it only fits in certain orientations due to the offset heatpipes.

Contact between cpu and cooler seemed good, and temps are better than my old 4 heatpipe cooler (Be Quiet Pure Rock 2) as expected - I might have to check and see if maybe the fins are in contact with the SSD heatsink.

Additionally i was only able to install the fan in the middle - installing towards the IO shield side interfered with the board heatsinks, installing on the RAM side interfered with my USB header and sata cables

      • Was my first build in almost 20 years (for my kids this time) so i was rather rusty, given i had the contact and also had the same fan issues i figured it was better to just go with another cooler. I'll use the RGB fans in the case instead and gift the cooler to a mate to tinker with, only 50 bucks after all.

      These big coolers are HUGE.

I bought the "short" RAM sticks because this will overhang all 4 slots on my ordinary-sized mATX mobo.

I'm waiting on my CPU to arrive before I install this, but it's gonna be tight. I may need to attach one of the fans 1cm higher and live with a few percent less cooling power.

No bigger than a noctua d14/15

    • +1

thanks . hard to believe they finally beat the Noctua NH-D15

  • +3

Thermalright are back! last time they were rivalling Noctua here in Aus was in the 2008s

  • Your username and account creation date were very intriguing, until I realised you can change your OB username.

Got this same cooler from a previous deal and running it on my 13600k and it's doing it's job. Not nearly as much worries when compared to water cooling and its cheap.

    • What kind of temp you get under cinebench load? Do you do any undervolt or limiting PL?

With running default using this cooler, mine was around 95+ c.
I had to limit PL, and even after getting the socket corrector, the best that i can get now is around 81c
I'm regretting using b660 because it can only uv by 0.05v

Pains me to say this, but a great cooler.

    • Why does it pain you to say this?

      • +11

        I'm a big noctua fan.

        • +7

Omg I didn't read your user name LOL

  • You know a deal is good when you want one but already have a decent twin tower cooler and have FOMO.

  • Would this fit a gogabyte aorus master x570 mb in a CORSAIR 4000D case?

  • +2

Purchased one to replace a not so great Coolermaster liquid cooler that is dying at the moment. Considering Noctua coolers are 100+ at least, this was an easy buy with recommendation from GN. Maybe a small difference but SE is not the version that GN tested.

I feel like this will soon take the space that CM 212 was in the past for budget builds.

  • It's shame Thermalright aren't more dominant as they should to be. They have made some great products. I still have my 1.9kg Thermalright Ultra Extreme True Copper.

    • 1.9kg??? How does it not snap the motherboard?

      • Wait until you find out some new graphics cards are 2.5kg+

        • Graphics cards are supported by the case too.

Finally got my Ozbargain Special(tm) AM5 system together yesterday - made from parts mostly found here on OzB.

This cooler is amazing, I have a 7950X and it’s boosting to 5.05ghz across all cores in Cinebench. When I’m not dicking around with stress tests, you can’t hear it.

    Great value cooler!

    • If you don't mind can you share the list of parts you used for the build please. I'm also planning to build an AM5 system.

      • Certainly!

        Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact
        ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi
        AMD Ryzen 9 7950x
        Kingston Fury Beast 64GB DDR5-5200
Noctua NT-H2 AM5 kit (with thermal guard)
        Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE

        Reused some parts:

        Samsung 970 Evo 2TB NVME
Gigabyte GTX 1080 w/ Arctic Accelero III
        WD Black 4TB HDD
Seagate Barracuda that I probably shucked 8TB HDD

Whats the difference between SE and non-SE?

    • +3

Apparently non se is a few mm taller and missing the top covers . Basically shaved a few cents off the manufacturing cost by the looks

      • +1

The SE only has plastic top covers. I prefer the aluminum of the standard version.

      Breakdown of Fan model numbers:

      C - Clockwise Rotation
12 - Size (height and width)
      (B > C Pro > C > R) - Quality/Tier
W - White (nothing for black)
      S - ARGB
      R - RGB

      • look like the SE has 10g lighter fans ?

        • The fans look exactly the same, except for that weight difference. The only thing is that quality/tier letter in the fan model number. "C" for SE and "B" for the standard, and B is apparently better quality, but with same specs and same Bearing?

Only reason I went with the standard PA 20 was the review on Gamers Nexus.

My Noctua heatsink, is so old it is corroding badly, because I kept getting the different fittings for various CPUs over the years, reusing the heatsink again and again.

  • +1

I purchased this for $79 at the start of the year because the alternatives for a similar noise/performance level cooler were well over $100. Fits in my NR200. Great cooler! Would highly recommend it, especially for this price.

  • I just bought this yesterday. Didn't realise it was on special, I just thought it was a good price and I was in the market. It arrived today so will install tomorrow.

Haven't heard of this until I saw the deal and read up on the price to performance value. Lucky me!

  • +1

Just bare in mind that you cannot mount the fans in the pull direction. The fins will vibrate and resonate.

Got 7950X, getting that heat out from the CPU is damn good.

  • Don't use the thermal paste that comes with it get some mx4 or similar. PC idles at a nice 28c and no more than 65c while under full stress

  • Ordered the white and still waiting for it to be shipped .
