Anyone recommend a tapeworm tablet to compliment NexGard Spectra?

    • looking for same thing

I've been using ranvet allwormer quarterly with nexgard spectra monthly.

      • How long does the pack of 25 take to expire? That’ll be over 5 years for my dog ha

        • The bottle I got had a 2 year expiry, and I got the small-dog variant that's dosed at 1 pill per 10kg. So for my 30kg dog it's 12 per year, matching up nicely with the expiry with one spare.

Why do you use a product with allwormer monthly and another quarterly? It's not needed.

Although it is important to worm pups regularly up to 6 months, adult pets gain a degree of immunity against intestinal worms and we rarely see problems unless pets haven’t been wormed for years. We believe that once, or maximum twice per year is all that is needed with quality worming tablets.

A note on fleas while I'm at it:

Most of these monthly products target fleas. Very marketable! Our opinion is the following: if your pet gets the odd flea every 4-5 years, we believe it is healthier to just treat at that time and not every single month regardless. The flea itself doesn’t really hurt your pet, but the month in, month out application of a toxic chemical just possibly may!

        • Will read later, but my bet always says nexgard spectra does not do tapeworm and need to compliment it with something that does

Doesn’t seem to be for all types though. Nexguard Spectra Green isn’t eligible

    NexGard Spectra 30-60KG 6pk @ $57 is great. Expiry 30/07/2023.

    • +1

wait what, that is jsut a few months away that is not great

      • +1

2 dogs, 6 tablets = 3 months @ $57 is great. If you have less dogs, maybe not so much. Unless you like pushing expiry.

    • +1

Unless you have two dogs, or your dog is over 60KG, this isn't really a great deal as you won't be able to use them all before expiry.

      • If you had medium or small size of kanine, you could break these table in half or quarter to feed your fluffy friend.

Even after expire date, most of them still contains effective substances.

Exactly. It's not like they evaporate. The compound are stable.

@M00Cow: Agree, people think that the day after it expires the tablets are totally ineffective. Really? These are compounds, they aren’t smart enough to tell the time.

Hey it’s 1 second past expiry, we can’t work. But wait we are in WA so we can stay at work for another 3 hours. Cancel the strike!

@RockyRaccoon: To be fair though, there are active ingredients and the manufacturer does not recommend using them post expiry (and yes I know, of course they do). Still, the health of my dog is more important than saving $30.

I know some are thinking of cutting these on half, but do take not that the ingredients aren't evenly distributed efficacy would certainly be affected.

              • @WeePaulie: I reckon than all of active substance be preblended well then by tablet machine extrude into tablet shape.

I did this for my 25kg plug dog.

After expiring date, let me say, within 6months, I am still confident for it to validate control bug from dog.

  • just noticed so many other good deals on there and all sold out, when do they usually post these deals

    • +1

  • Thanks OP…. will cut these in half and save $11/month for the next year, over the best price i can usually get.

    • When I did some research, I found that u cant break them apart, as the active ingredient is not evenly distributed. I used to do this too ;)

  • not seeing $57 anymore, unless im looking in the wrong spot. appears to be $107 for NexGard Spectra 30-60KG 6pk
