  • Heavy and seems like battery life would be pretty poor unless they're able to switch off the graphics card and just use the intel built in graphics for day to day use.

    • +3

That's exactly how these things work. Usually GPU is fired up when it recognises a game, integrated otherwise. GPU reduces battery dramatically so gaming sessions better off plugged in.

    • +3

Correct that is how Windows 10 and 11 handles multiple GPUs. Even on a desktop you can specify apps to use one GPU or another. Pretty cool.

  • As mentioned in previous deals on this laptop, it weirdly has the mid-range "P" series processor, which seems like a strange combo with a dedicated graphics accelerator. The higher specced "H" processor would make far more sense, IMO.

If you're going to downvote me, at least tell me why…

      • +3

Didn’t downvote you, but it’s not a strange combo to use a P series CPU in an entry-level gaming computer. A 1650 was low end even a few years ago, so it’s a good pairing.

Also, maybe some people don’t like that you’ve used the term “graphics accelerator”, since, you know, it’s not 2002 anymore. :P

gone are the days for 1tB hard drive … now everyone waants you to pay yearly fees to store data on cloud !!!

Just buy a cheap SSD external

NAS, add a second drive or upgrade the internal drive if possible.

I have had this laptop since January. Very happy with it for light gaming and general use.

    • loud?

      • Would be. I have the amd 5700u version and its loud AF when gaming.

    • Can it handle fortnite game?thanks

      • +3

Should be able to handle it just fine, Fortnite isn't a very intensive game and this isn't a potato by any means.

        • +2

          Yes on low graphics settings.

To fully experience Fortnite with everything maxed out you will need 3060 minimum

    • Screen brightness ok? Is it single channel ram and does that matter?

    • Can this handle overwatch 1080p 60fps ultra settings?

      • +1

I'm not too sure mate. I'm usually playing something offline, like death stranding etc. Considering I've only got limited time this was perfect and good value for the ram, processor, screen size and graphics card. Been good for work which has some editing and occasionally basic programing.

    • How’s the battery life? Do you find 250 nits brightness okay for day to day use? Please let me know.

  • Bloody nice.

AMEX got an offer for spend $300 and get $50 back. Might be targeted but worth checking if you got an AMEX card.
Thanks OP, just got one to play fortnite!

  • Any idea if this can support dual external monitors via a passive USB-C hub that has two HDMI slots?

    • I think so, Thunderbird 4 Port

One Thunderbolt 4 port can connect up to two 4K 60hz DisplayPort or HDMI monitors through a compatible dock or an adapter.

      • Picked one up from HN this afternoon..can confirm it has usbc video output.

        Running dual 2550x1440 here

        • wow, can you share your set up/photo?

          • @leeroys_dad: I'll try a bit later as I haven't finished up setting up the pc

  • Do these laptops come with Office?

    • The listing doesn't mention anything about it, so no.

      • Do you know of any deals to get office cheaply?

  • All the specs are great but it only has 45%NTSC which is around 55%-65%srgb and 250nit brightness.

    • Not great though it is 144Hz - some regions have 100% SRGB though only 60Hz. Good for gaming, not so good for creative work I suppose.

  • Don't expect any positive experience with HM if there is a quality problem. Just avoid.

is this one better for 300 more?
    RTX3050 vs GTX 1650

    • +1

I’d say it’s better, a bit heavier/possibly a bit bulkier though with more of a gaming laptop look. I previously owned a 3060 variant of the Nitro 5 - mainly used connected to a monitor or in bed etc. It was good for gaming around the house/constantly connected to a power source, I wouldn’t want to be lugging it around though.

  • Bugger. I bought this on Sunday from HN for $1,200. Used the AMEX statement credits across 4 cards but can't believe the timing. Oh well.

  • I know the deal has ended, but I purchased this laptop and had these questions which I've solved by owning it.

    Using a HP G5 dock …
    1. Can it power two 4K monitors at 60HZ? Yes.
    2. Can it charge via the USB-C Port? Yes.
