Decent price for the G29. Best at Amazon was $295 in November. Don't think they are price matching anyone. If you want the cheapest price you probably have to wait for a coupon to line up with Logitechshop eBay discounting it. You may also need eBay Plus.

Edit: G920 is the same price.

this or Thrustmaster T248 for $100 more?

    • +2

waiting for t300 rs gt deal :(

      • What would be the best we could hope for in a t300 rs gt deal?

    • Definitely go for the T248. Much better quality.

    • +2

T248 is belt and gear driven, so will be a lot quieter. The Logitechs are gear driven only, so have a sort of humming noise as you use the wheel.

      • +3

Hum? I felt it was more like a ratchet or quiet jack hammer.

I got rid of mine because I was sure it would annoy the neighbours

      • That and horrid notchiness and grabbing action from the center, if not out the box then soon enough.

    • +2

Honestly, this wheel is absolutely fine and does the job. I have 500 hours using it across different games and rank competitively on some assetto corsa servers. Yes the thrustmaster wheel is better, but the pedals are not as good as the logitech and that seems to be a weird caveat people just choose to ignore when they reply "thrustmaster wheel is better".

Ultimately, unless you're going to invest into Fanatic wheel & pedals this is all academic and I'd suggest just go by price. If you find you are addicted to sim racing then you'd go further than base models of thrustmaster wheels anyway

Additionally, the logitech wheel is basically guaranteed to work with the majority of games without an issue

      • So for someone who’s looking to give racing with steering wheels a go, this Logitech one is a good start or is there another Logitech model (or another brand) I should look at?

        • This is definitely the one to start with imo

  • Has the (optional extra now I see) shifter improved in feel since the plastic-y rubbish from the G27?

If not, can you reuse the old shifter on the new kit?

    • +4

still plastic-y rubbish,if anything quality has gotten worse

    • +2

Nope. Still a toy that should not be sold as an accessory for the wheel. Absolutely horrible!

    • +1

Depends if you have had experience with other shifters.
It gets the job done. When on sale not much competition at that price point.
Reverse can be a bit tricky, but lol that is like some cars in real life.

When I say gets the job done, I mean it lets you change gears easily, it doesn't feel like a real shifter.
People do mod them though to improve the feel.

I have the G920. Its great!
Chuck it on a Vevor Wheel Stand. Load up F1 2022 which was added to gamepass today. LIGHT OUT AND AWAY WE GO!

    • +2

Cheers for the tip about F1 22 on Gamepass!

    • Its great in the sense that literally almost any other wheel is better, but it still beats a xbox controller.

  • Seems like there's a bit of racing sim hype going on.
Last night I pulled the trigger g923 with the gloves and game for $414 with after -$20 ebayplus coupon.
Got scammed by Topcashback with only a $12 cashback instead of $50… oh well :/

    • +11

It's because of PSVR2 and Gran Turismo 7 VR

      • And Wreckfest is making a comeback.

        • How popular are Aus servers for wreckfest, and are they racing lobbies or smashing lobbies or both?

          • @Shunto: Almost exclusively racing lobbies with varying levels of clean racing allowed. Getting around 20-30 spread across a couple of servers each night currently.

            • @Mordaunt: Awesome, will see you in there. Cheers mate

              • +1

@Shunto: Occurs to me I didn't mention platform; we play on PC.

  • +30

    $299.95 box.
You'll use it once or twice and realize without a dedicated racing sim setup, its a pain to setup and pack up and never use it again. 9 months later after looking at the box at the corner of your desk, you'll list it on marketplace for the same price you bought if for and someone will buy it as an Xmas gift.

You'll then come on Oz bargain and be tempted to buy it again

    • +2

      Lol @ your last comment

    • +1

      Can confirm.

I am currently in the intermediate phase of this cycle.

    • +1

      So true!

    • That was me, until I moved the PS from the BigScreen TV to my PC Monitor.
Get's so much more use, as I just slide the wheel over and play.
Gran Turismo 7 has grown on me, used to despise the grind\micro transactions, now I just ignore the prompts.

    • +3

This reads like the 5 stages of grief.

    • This hits home lmao, not for this but for a lot of things listed on ozbargain

    • If you're under 1.8m get a foldable Playseat Challenge chair

    • +1

Thank you for this. Basically a PSA saved me $300

    • +2

Yeah - pretty painful without a stand or simrig - especially if you have set up and remove each time.

Expect to keep adding bits if you get into it, even if you are not going full sim rig. I ended up slowly adding an NLR racing stand 2.0, a thrustmaster handbrake, a VNM shifter, castors for the stand. thumbscrews for the stand, wheel locks for the stand. That said, after doing all of this, it takes a minute to setup and is an absolute blast for the driving! And the Logitech wheels are more than good enough for an initial kit!**

On top of which, I added a bit of aluminium section and a couple of aftermarket adapters to allow switching out to my joystick setup, which has made the TM warthogs viable again! (this is an either or - wheel or joystick, but stable either way).

While it felt bloody expensive to get the whole setup going, when I looked at it closely, I realised it was a lot less expensive than other hobbies I've done in the past (windsurfing, diving, cycling and kayaking) - and I spend a lot more time gaming than these. So overall I'm pretty happy with the spend!

** Not to say I haven't got my eye on the low end Moza gear as an upgrade to load cell pedals and DD wheel.

Best at Amazon was $295 in November.

The G29 and G290 were slightly cheaper via Amazon UK for $270 delivered few years back.

I recommend checking out FB Marketplace. Many use it one time and then sell cheap after, sometimes with a stand after realising its not for them. Few now for under $250 in my area which includes stands and shifter

    • I didn't check third parties so the $295 would have been from Amazon AU directly. In any case it's been cheaper on eBay too.

Edit: Sorry. That didn't quite make sense. Had to rush to watch my kid at the playground.

Got the psvr2 at launch and man gran Turismo 7 in VR is unreal! I've played a little VR racing a couple years ago but it's hit a new high with gt7 and a wheel. If you have the room for a wheel and wheel stand and you plan on actually using it do it! As others have mentioned though they are definitely out there in the secondhand market.

    • -1

I got quite dizzy with tracks that has up and down contours, hope they fix the floatyness of the VR cockpit perspective

      • Nah, no fixes needed. The floaty feeling when u go down an incline adds to the realism and immersion

  • +7

    If you have a PC and wondering which way to go;
    - The PS version (G29) has the led indicator lights that also work on the PC and you have more buttons.
    - Xbox version (G920) doesn't have the lights or buttons, so it's a much cleaner look.

People bag the quality, I have had mine for years. If you don't abuse it, will last.
Purchased the shifter (on sale) over a year ago, bit hard to complain about the quality at that price.

Friends have expensive\dedicated sims with lots of peripherals, and while better you get 90% of the experience with a simple setup.
If you find it's for you, then sims become a never ending money pit and a great hobby.

    • This…

Once the bug bites, high end equipment is addictive

    • -1

You get maybe…maybe 70 percent of the experience. And i guarantee you that after your first actual day on the tools if you compared again, you'd never, ever want to go back, because no, this isnt even remotely comparable to, say, a t300. Not the wheel, not the shifter, not the pedals.

People bag the quality because either both notchy, cheap arse with a gear action and made of cheap, flimsy plastic. Not because it blows up in a week.

      • As I said, I have used high-end gear, and said it gets the job done.
Perhaps 90% was a stretch, split the difference for 80%.
This deal is aimed at those who want an entertaining experience, not a sim.
Massive step-up from using a controller, but it's not a sim.

Even with the high-end gear, it reflects a single car. IRL the experience between cars is night and day. Driven plenty that feel cheap like this package, have lots of track time, but am not even an amateur, even the high end motion sims don't come close to the feel and smell of the real thing.
People are spending more on sims that it actually costs to buy a cheap beater for a track day.

Unless you come across a barely used set for $150 or lower otherwise just buy a brand new set for extra $50 or $100 more for the peace of mind. It is not worth the hassle and risk to buy a used set especially if the seller doesn’t want you to test if it works.

  • Why does this keep happening to me?
I'm interested in a steering wheel for Wangan Maximum midnight tune 6 on PC. Amazon has it for $349 but i waited for few weeks. Didn't seem like its going down so i end up buying G29 Steering wheel at JB hifi instead price match and also the shifter.
That was two days ago and now its $299.95..

Anyway, i like the feel of the steering wheel, Leather texture feels good, metal petals. I have oily hands so its probably a good idea to use gloves with this otherwise the wheel would get worn out.
Shifter doesn't feel as premium though. Its mostly made of plastic.
I have the wheel and shifter connected to a adjustable standing table. I don't think there's any rubber that secures device onto the table. Its those clamp screw types and if you were to turn too hard it would dislodge or come off from the table. Might need to add some rubber yourself.

Shifter, steering wheel and petals there's alot of cable management issues

    • No home shifter can cop the abuse that MT players give the actual machines shifter haha /s

  • Really want a wheel but just the whole messing around with cables and having to set it up all the time since I cant just leave it on my desk just puts me off it.

    • Yes. A dedicated wheel stand is almost mandatory.

      • I wouldnt say mandatory. I have a 1.8m desk in width, the pedals and wheel just sit underneath the desk.

what's with the racing sim deals?

are people going to re-enact Melbourne Grand Prix in games so they can avoid COVID crowds at the loop? lol

    • +4

Psvr2 just came out and GT7 is an entirely different experience vs the normal game.

I think my first words were holy $&it but may have been worse even.

  • Thank God I don't have the little stand which lets you use this with a couch. I can stop myself

  • +1

For anyone else wondering about the difference between the various models, I found this article helpful:
    https://simracingsetup.com/product-guides/logitech-g29-vs-g9…

I'm going to wait for a discount on the G923.
