  • What can 10k points do nowadays?Everything has been gone up! Please prove me wrong!

One way flight between any city pair closer than 600 miles (if you pay the $40-50 taxes), been that "price" for at least the last 5 years in economy (with marginal tax increases each year). It was only business class awards that went up back in 2019 (re domestic awards).

Checked a reward flight in business return to Europe for later in the year and they wanted nearly 2 million points. What a joke.

Reward flight or point plus pay?

      • +2

That's a points+pay, you need to be looking for classic reward redemptions, and be booking 10-11 months in advance on high demand destinations like the US and EU.

Cheaper to get invitation to Fiji Accor Plus

    • What is Fiji Accor plus, I remember seeing a deal with Zhong kong vpn couple of weeks ago for $189 AUD

      • Essentially you can join via Accor Plus in other countries if you are referred by a member that joined there. I joined in Fiji, for example & the rate is quite a lot cheaper (and renewals are also discounted too).

You can get Accor gold for about 90 € by purchasing IBIS business membership.

    • +1

Accor ALL is not Accor Plus , IBIS gives gold for ALL but doesnt grant the Plus membership which has most of the benefits (I think ! , its all a bit confusing)

There you go. I didn't know they had two now

The main benefits of Accor Plus is 1 free night in Asia Pacific & 50% of meals when 2 people dine in most Accor restaurants in Asia Pacific (no need to be staying to get the dining deal).
The standard Accor Gold you get with Ibis doesn't give these.

        • This used to be called something else which I had for a while. (The name alludes me now) But at the time it was hard to use the free night. For a while if you looked like cancelling they would call and offer a discount to rejoin but they stopped doing that when I let mine lapse.

@Brodenn: Yes, it used to be called Accor Advantage Plus.
I've been a member for several years & never had an issue getting my free night - its been a great way to stay at some very expensive properties.
The main thing is to avoid Public holidays, school holidays, Christmas period, etc.
Some of the really expensive places have a minimum number of nights to use the free night (eg Tahiti) & some won't include Saturday (or will only include Saturday if you pay for an additional night).
Typically in most cities you will always find something nice - eg in Sydney we've had Sofitel Darling Harbour (no minimum stay) but couldn't get the Pullman Quay Grand.
The search facility on their website is quite easy to show the free nights (if you have one).

        • Yeah - you might get a free night at some properties but let's be honest, it's at best a discount at most, and that's not even considering the many hotels that don't participate and the blackout periods which cover the busy periods. Here's an excerpt from some math I did on using my Stay Plus night at Peppers Marysville:

Marysville Peppers: 25th to 27th March, member rate is $339.15 per night for the Superior Room with 1 King bed and 1 Sofa Bed for a total of $678.30

With Stay Plus selected, it is $150 for the first night and $424.15(!!!!!!!) for the second night for a total of $574.15, or in other words "Stay Plus" = a discount of $104.15, not a free night.

When I sent that to the hotel, they replied with:

The Stay Plus Benefit is for a standard room in the hotel.
The hotel charges the upgrade fee that they value the upgrade at.
In this case the Peppers at Marysville has valued the the excupgrade to a superior room at $150

They didn't even bother to address why the rate for the second day went up, it's almost certainly because there would be a discount applied for stays of 2 nights or more, so by the time all the chopping and changing is done you really aren't saving much.

The other problem being the standard room is for 2 pax maximum so not usable for those who need to travel with family, meaning upgrade is not a choice but a necessity. Getting $100 for the stay plus benefit means needing to find $300 in other savings just to break even - so either spending $3000 in hotels for the year or dining once per month at Accor restaurants and spending at least $70 per meal, not including drinks. I have tons of examples of this sort of stuff, it's why I'd never spend a cent on this membership again, I had grand plans of just breaking even but the T&Cs and machinations around which rooms are eligible for benefits like Stay Plus and Red Hot Rooms killed that idea.

Same with the dining benefit - go google the exceptions. Accor is just a big conglomorate of merged brands with different terms and unless you're staying at the very core brands like Novotel, you will rarely get the published benefits in the way they are presented, and even then… the Swissotel in Sydney only gives 10% discount not 50%, and that's a mainline brand.

Sorry but this membership straight up sucks for anyone who doesn't fit a narrow band of retirees or young couples who have the flexibility to stay in whatever dictated room size or go out dining at Accor restaurants once a month just to recoup the membership fee.

        • this is true, i used th 50% off meal for 2 for the 1st time for valentines and i didn't stay at the 5 star hotel. i was expecting better quality food from a small menu from the 5 star hotel. all prices are super inflated, and with the discount is kinda what the price would be in other restaurants. feels like you are getting a great deal, but not really. i tried dinner, maybe i will give breakfast buffet and lunch a chance.

          • @Hugh G Rection: I suspect menus around Valentines day are all over priced & not a good indication of the normal food quality & service.
In the recent trip to Thailand some of the 5 star Accor restaurants ended up being not much more expensive than street food stalls & the food was quite amazing.

            • @Gaz1: yea, of course Thailand is going to be cheaper. i ate in sydney where there prices are similar to house prices, lol.

              • @Hugh G Rection: I've used the 50% off in quite a lot of the expensive Accor hotels in Australia too. I tend to agree their normal prices are somewhat higher than some other restaurants, but with the 50% off it generally makes it much cheaper than other options (and especially convenient if staying there).
A couple of the 5 star hotels I stayed at had very good buffet breakfasts for around $30-$35 - much more than I would normally want to pay but at $15 - $17.50 its not worth going to a local cafe.

Accor Plus sucks, I wouldn't waste your money. Never again.

    • FALSE

not true, one stay at a 5 star hotel pays for more then itself off. then you get 50% off food all the time. win win.

  • Does it come with free breakfast for hotel booking? Thanks

    • No, the free night never includes breakfast but the 50% off meals has also applied to breakfast at all the Accor places I have stayed & sometimes there will be packages & promotions that include breakfast if you are paying for the room.

    • you would have to selection that option if it is available. most of the time it isn't available.
