  • Hey guys, looking for a simple trolley jack for the garage to change tyres etc.
Is this any good, is it safe? I dont want to kill myself using it. Reviews look mixed and issues with handle?

just get some axle stands with it. jack it up axle stand under lower car on to stand safe as. better, safer, faster than the wind up jacks that are in the boot

    • Low profile is good on this. Only problem you might/would have is

price, and the max weight capacity.

      • Even a Falcon is only 1700-1800kg and you're not taking the weight of the entire car with a jack.
If you insist of driving light trucks you might have a problem, but then they don't require low profile jacks.

Some user may need 2 ton LOW profile jacks. I dont but others may

          Something like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/562305

is a lot better deal (ofcourse too expensive $149 like almost twice the price- which doesn't justify it)

given the higher height lifting, and more weight baring capacity too

Also this deal was $59 at the precovid times https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/567355 $10 inflation on this

      • I reckon the biggest concern is the low lift height, 352mm isn’t very high. Good perhaps for tyre changes, or to lift from the side so you can get a larger jack underneath. But if you wanted to actually get under the car with any sort of elbow room (eg to swing a breaker bar), you need at least 500mm IMO.

        • It depends entirely where your jacking points are - if they're way up high then you're probably going to need a block of wood anyway to get the car high enough to get your jack stands under the sills… so just use a bigger block of wood…

I have the same jack and the handle tightening/loosening is crap but tolerable if you're aware of it.

No jack is safe to use without the car being supported by stands, but I still occassionaily change wheels without them as I don't get under the car and it usually only takes a few minutes.

  • CAMS approved for trolley jack racing in all states

  • I have a 2000kg Trolley Jack with a Height Raised: 465mm, a Saddle Pad Size (the part that makes contact with the vehicle) of about 12mm diameter. I find it perfectly suits my cars (less than 2,000kg of kerb weight). Its larger saddle helps avoid the problem of the jack may make indentations in or bend the car metal that is in contact with it a little. I only find out this problem after using a 1700kg jack like the above. Also the higher Height Raised makes the job safer.

    • Its larger saddle helps avoid the problem of the jack may make indentations in or bend the car metal that is in contact with it a little.

Always use a towel/wooden block/rubber plate for this reason. Metal to metal contact is always going to cause some damage.
