Some of my thoughts on this controller from a previous post

    • Solid build; doesn't feel cheap and doesn't creak either. A bit lighter in hand than expected, good portable size. Perfectly comfortable in hands for a few hours unless you have Kawhi Leonard hands
    • Face buttons and thumbsticks feel good; satisfying to press. D-pad feels good too. Shoulder buttons feel a little loose and less tight, they work fine I guess
    • Triggers are not analog; won't be ideal for any modern racing titles though it still works of course. Hard to fault due to size
    • Wireless version; battery life isn't anywhere as long as say an Xbox One controller, but will be enough to last a few sessions

The flatter and more compact design compared to a traditional controller shape allows it to be carried around easier, takes up less space in your bag, etc. Works well as a mobile controller.

If you're not planning to bring a controller around with you a ton, the 8BitDo Pro 2 from this deal is probably a better bet. Will suit more people and feature set is richer.

  • This controller is also available for the same price, the 8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth Controller for Android and XBOX - $49

I was initially going to purchase this due to the analogue triggers, sleeker aesthetic and better customisability/software support, but I realised that it isn't Windows/Switch compatible? Turned me off from purchasing it, I couldn't really find a definitive answer on Google or YT.

Some may find it better, but I'd say it's use case is quite a bit more limited. More product info here

    Edit: From reviews posted of the product, it does seem to be only compatible with Android;

    • This game controller only supports DirectInput API and not Xinput. This means you can’t use it on anything but cloud gaming on android. The description on JBs site says it supports something that it doesn’t. It would be a great product otherwise.

    • if you want an android controller and very little else its great but the product is misleading with its xbox branding these leads yo to assume this product basically an xbox ib ought this product assiuming i could use xcloud with it on my laptop and was not recinised.

I bought one expecting to be able to use it on Pc and was similarly shocked to find you can't.

It's gotta be something to do with the xbox licensing, Microsoft didn't want pc game pad competition or something.

      • Damn. Would have been great considering the amount of features it has in such a small form factor. Wasted opportunity!

      • Steam is great at controllers so all games through Steam should work, and you can add most games to Steam by throwing their .exe in

      • Does it work with nvidia shield which uses AndroidTV as os? I don't need to use Windows or switch.

The listing is definitely misleading- it should be 8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth Controller for Android and XBOX "Cloud". Looks like this controller won't work for Xbox consoles. Might be a way to get it to work with Windows may be, but not native Xbox controller compatibility it seems.

    • I bought one and it does Xinput mode just fine, you just need to hold the X button when you turn it on and it will connect to the PC as an Xinput (xbox) device. If you hold the Y button when you turn it on it'll be a Switch controller!

Nonetheless, seems to work just fine for me after updating the firmware to version 2.0 (which mentions a fix in xinput mode btw), and Steam gets extra points for allowing controller mapping to more accurately reflect the "switch mode" button layout the device uses.

The pro controller definitely has better triggers if you are after that, but this isnt bad as an emulation controller or non-racing usage.

sign up to JB perks to get another $10 welcome voucher

You can use $5 aldi sim or keep a look out for free boost sim (some you can even make a profit) if you have already exhausted all your existing phone numbers.

    • I was able to relink my existing number to a new account and it worked!

      • This means your previous account will lose its perks benefits.

    • Yes, as I've outlined in the deal description and my above comment

  • Does it work with PS5?

  • Any suggestions on a cheap(er) one to buy (from AliEx?) for an Amazon Fire TV stick?

My 8BitDo SF30 Pro (the previous model) is still going strong.

8BitDo had to revise the SF30 Pro after receiving copyright infringement notices from lawyers claiming to represent Nintendo cause it looked like their SNES Controllers.

I have one of these and i use it on Nintendo Switch, Steamdeck and have it connected to a Raspberry Pi for other emulation goodness.

    Agree with a l an :D
I have one - and it's pretty much my go to for xbox pc gamepass and for interstate travels. Just chuck it in the bag - 2 yrs on, it's still pretty alright where 2 x left joycons have started drifted in much shorter timeframe.
