[PSVR2, PS5] PS4 to PS5/PSVR2 Version Upgrade - Rez Infinite $13.95, Thumper $7.55 & Tetris Effect $14.95 @ PlayStation Store

390

I guess this is only going to be useful to those who either own the PSVR2 or plan on purchasing it down the track and own the PS4 version of the games already (they were both free a couple of years back so you might have them in your game library).

Also it's illegal to own just one guinea pig in Switzerland.

Tetris Effect can be upgraded for $14.95 as well cheers to @Summer28 for pointing that one out.

Rez infinite is great, not sure how much it can be upgraded given it’s simple graphics but never the less it’s a classic.

Thumper was a bit of a chunder bucket for me…

    Also Guinea pigs rule

If you guinea be playing them on the PSVR2 you need the PS5 upgrades I think.

    • +1

From what I've heard Rez has an option that allows you to use the PSVR2's eye tracking feature for targeting.

      • +1

That sounds both awesome and tiring!

  • +1

If these were plus games, and I upgraded them, would I end up with a perpetual license to keep playing them if my plus subscription were to expire? As opposed to what usually happens with plus games when the sub expires.

Actually, they weren't plus games at all, but genuine freebies. Doh.

    • Yeah both of these were free a couple of years back and didn't require PS+. Games you acquire via PS+ are only playable if you have an active subscription afaik.

Nothing beats playing Rez on the Dream………

      ……….CARRRRRSSSSTTTT……TTTWWWWWOOOOOOOO

Thumper is brilliant. First time experiencing it in PSVR2 and I can’t get enough.

FYI Tetris Effect can be upgraded for $14.95, and for mine is well worth it. Unfortunately you can’t upgrade the PS+ version when it was free a little while ago though, I tried. Gotta own the base PS4 game which luckily I still had laying around on disc.

    • +2

Noice didn't see the Tetris upgrade option probably because I don't own that one but sounds good for $15. I'll add that as well to the deal post.

    • +1

I guess there's no trick to somehow buy the ps4 cheap and upgrade? It's pretty pricey

      • +1

Yeah I would probably wait until there's some sale on.

If you don't own Gran Turismo 7 definitely pick that one up (should be able to grab a copy on eBay for around $60). That is by far the best on PSVR 2 atm for mine and well worth it.

Also No Man's Sky you should be able to pick up for less than $20 on eBay. That one offers a free PS5/PSVR2 upgrade. Ordered one myself the other day. There are a few free trials as well including Horizon COTM and Resident Evil Village which you can check out.

      • +1

It’s regularly half price on the PS Store, so if you’re not in a rush that’s an option. I got the disc copy from Amazon for $15 a few years ago, which doesn’t help you now but again, if you’re in no rush wait and see if they do that again. Otherwise look for a cheap pre-owned copy from EB, FB Marketplace etc.

Good luck, it’s a ripping game.

        • +1

Cheers bud sounds good I might look around for a copy. That's probably the way to go.

As someone who bought the physical on PS4 back in the day for $10, I was able to relocate to Turkey for 10 minutes to get the PS5 upgrade for $7 on PSN.

Hey Summer28. I got my PSVR2 yesterday but I am seeing a permanent grain on screen. Are you encountering that as well? It’s quite perceivable on gray/dark backgrounds, including PS menus.

      • Yup same here unfortunately it's like looking through a cheap screen protector where you see some sort of glue or greasy residue and the screen is super grainy as well. I'm thinking of getting it exchanged apparently it's called the mura effect.

I tried to take a video of it through the lenses but it wasn't all that good however on Reddit someone there managed to take a few good ones and mine is similar looking.

        https://imgur.com/a/ggCPcVZ

Does yours look like that as well by any chance. Some say that you get used to it after awhile but I'm pretty sure there are varying levels of this mura effect or whatever it is. I've tried to ignore it but not happening it's pretty much everywhere and definitely noticeable especially in cinematic mode.

        • +1

Exactly this! Thanks for sharing. May I ask what are you planning to do about this - accepting, exchanging, returning, any other thing?

          • @thegreatermamba: It has gotten slightly better with use not sure if it has actually improved or I've gotten used to it somewhat. It is still noticeably grainy though for the most part.

I have read on Reddit that some have exchanged theirs and the replacement is significantly better so I'm holding off for a couple more weeks and if it's still bothering me I might take a punt and get it exchanged.

What about yours sounds like it's very similar to mine what do you plan on doing.

            • +1

@dins: I have raised a fault case with TGG. I had bought concierge services with it. I am planning to take that in on the weekend. Let's see what happens.

              • @thegreatermamba: Keep us updated on how things go bud. I bought it from EB Games and my local does not appear to have any stock atm so I guess I'll have to wait a bit until it's back in stock.

        • Isn't that just the screendoor effect? I've seen this since with all VR headsets. Looks like the space between the pixels…

          • @The Value: I think they call it mura but could be a bit of both I would reckon. Apparently mura and SDE are the main downsides of using OLED lenses so yeah it's probably evident in every headset but most likely there are varying levels of it. Also some people are probably more sensitive to seeing them as well.

            • +1

@dins: Oh man. Ignorance was bliss. Now I can't unsee it. It's not a dealbreaker but I thought it was just a thing you see for being so close to display…

              • @The Value: Sorry champ haha I'm no expert but yeah I think it would have a lot to do with being so close to the display. From what I've come across 8K microLEDs is the next step up when it comes to mixed reality headsets and that might be the one to solve these issues.

Mine has a mild grain, it stood out like a sore thumb on the original PSVR but isn’t as bad on the #2. Don’t know if that’s because I’m used to it or not, but it’s definitely more obvious in darker scenes like you described.

        • +1

Thanks. Is it looking like how @dins described above ^

        • Someone posted this on Reddit and this is very similar to what I see on mine.

          https://imgur.com/a/ggCPcVZ

  • Not yet convinced that a PSVR2 is worth it but I certainly know I don't want a guinea pig. Rats are far more awesome!

    • Only a wuggle would say that.

  • +1

Does anyone know how I can get Tetris effect cheap? It's pretty high right now

    • Wait for a sale I would reckon unless you can find a cheap copy from eBay, FB Marketplace, EB/JB pre-owned games etc.

  • I don't know why people love rez. I played it through in quest 2. It's truly crap.

    • +7

      Cause it's pretty great tbh

Happy to respect your thoughts, but I'm going to break this one down to explain. To me:

        1. The audio was droll. That's a big deal on a game like this.
        2. The difficulty was stupidity low (unless you want to see some butterflies, you get 99% kill ratio on first try and can barely even die unless you just abandon the controller. Level and enemy design was based on a dreamcast controller and you used to have to memorize the attack waves or you'd get destroyed on dreamcast because dragging the reticle around was too slow to survive on just reaction speed. Whereas modern inputs make it to so easy to aim anywhere immediately, so you roast everything without trying.
        3. The story was predictable/lame.

The graphics are fine given when the game was first released and they suit it stylistically anyway.

Overall I could have been tricked into thinking it was an indie game developed by a single person. One of the dime-a-dozen ones, not the remarkable ones.

Somewhat related - does anyone know of anywhere that has the PSVR2 charging station in stock? The VR was very much an impulse purchase and by the time I became aware of the charger, it was sold out from my usual stockists.

    • +2

I preordered the one coming out in april. Looks better IMO

What about dust on the lenses?

Eg: i keep my quest 2 in its original box while charging, i drilled a cable hole in the side. So i can charge it without the dust getting in. And the quest joysticks take batteries so they're easy

I'm probably unseasonably fearful of scratching the lenses during cleaning tho

        • +4

I do wish there were magnetic lens covers or something along those lines.

          • +1

@dickiee: That would be awesome. Don't know if it might interfere with glasses

        • +2

I purchased a few of those ottoman with storage for VR headsets haha. Makes things quite easy to pack away and keeps dust and sunlight etc out.

      • +1

That looks great. And is only $10 more than the current charger. Thanks for the link.

    • +3

I would recommend checking out reviews I've come across many saying that it's not all that user friendly (ie difficult to place and check that they are charging properly).

  • +1

Does anyone have a link to the Rez upgrade?

I have the PS4 version from PS+, but it's only presenting the full game option at $44.95 for me, from both the console & the web store when I'm logged in.

Maybe it's not a free upgrade if you got it on PS+?

    • +1

People above are saying the same is happening with the PS+ version of Tetris Effect, so might be a no go unless you stump for buying it. I bought it a few years ago and the upgrade option was there for me.

    • It was free a couple of years back and it wasn't via PS+. If it was via PS+ then it's possible that they don't allow upgrades since you don't really own the game.

  • What a crock of shit, that you have to pay for upgrades because psvr1 games aren't compatible with psvr2.

    • Yeah it sucks same with PS4 to PS5 upgrades where a lot of them cost just as much as the original game. I guess unless people start voting with their wallets they are going to keep double dipping. The latest Horizon COTM they are apparently not planning on releasing a physical disc version either.
