    OMG. Horizon will be free

    • +1

Nice after FFVII remake another title I wanted to try never bought. And this doesn't need a sub what the!?

      • +1

They are banking on you buying Horizon 2, should bring in a few more sales

  • +8

Wow this is more like it. The witness, gungeon, Abzu and horizon are some seriously good games.

  • +3

Was going to buy Subnautica, and will probably still buy a physical, but at least I get to play it first for free 🤣🤣

    • It's so great. I'm replaying it currently.

    • I ordered a copy off Amazon here in Japan for ~$20, thankfully didn't take it out of the wrapper so was able to return it for a full refund when I heard about this!

    • Final fantasy 7 remake?

    • +8

The only game that I own above is The Witness, and that's awesome, am I complaining that it's free? No, I want others to experience it.

Also Abzu is like the Journey I've heard, equally great.

    • +5

I don't have it. And free is better than $5

    • +3

wow, there have been heaps of good games with PSplus and this at home concept has had a few goodies in the past. You must be hard to please. Well it is up to you if you want to buy and play games when they are newer or wait and risk it when they are older and promos coming out like this. You already had the enjoyment of playing these before the rest that didn't Congratulations!

    • Exactly why they are free.

      • -3

Like how m$ put all their over hyped and overrated mediocre games on ripoff rental-pass right?!?

        • Gamepass has an awesome catalog of games - wtf are you talking about mate?

          • @johnno07: First of all you're brainwashed if you think xbot have awesome catalog of games lol.
Second of all you're not my mate! Don't have brainwashed kids as my mates and never will…
Educate yourself on why everyone need to boycott evil satanic$oft

    • +2

Give me the great games that people enjoy but don't think are good enough to have bought already .
That's a fine needle to thread there, sir.

  • +5

I wonder if they are going to announce a release date for horizon: forbidden west sometime soon then. It's pretty much the only reason they would give it for free (same reason ratchet and clank was free).

    • +1

Anyone who would play HZD knows that forbidden west is going to be a great game! Those who haven't, won't know what they're missing…catch the whole audience, and you're in for a decent turnover, come Forbidden West!

    • It’s been a loooong time coming…

  • +1

Do you need to have PSN+ for this?

    • +23

Nope, this is part of PlayStation's 'Play at Home' initiative. Games are completely free.

PS Plus or even a PlayStation Console isn't required to claim. Just a PSN account that's logged into the PSN Store via a web browser is all you need to claim.

      • +10

A PlayStation console would be handy though

      • FINALLY !!!

      • Anyway to retroactively claim games?

        • +2

Usually you can just claim them from the web version of the Playstation Store as long as you have an account.

    • +13

      User name checks out.

    • +11

Damn, maybe email Sony and see if they can change the deal?

    • +3

So you already had the enjoyment of playing these before the rest that didn't Congratulations!

    • +2

      Stop buying games ;)

  • +3

Thanks OP. Subnautica is one of the most inventive, immersive and yes, horrifying games I've played in recent years. Right up there with AAA titles and an easy recommendation even though it's a big buggy. HZD is also one of the best PS exclusives!

    • HZD is also on PC.

      • +3

Most people don’t know is on PC

        But

        Is it free there?

        • -1

If you know where to look :)

        • -1

Eh, it's one of those games I would be willing to pay for the PC version regardless of this giveaway.
Uncapped frames + mouse aiming in HZD is very hard to pass up.

Same reason I plan to buy Days Gone despite having it for free from PsPlus.

    • why people downvoting comments about HZD on PC?

  • If you already own the game on disc and it’s installed, do you just deleted it and download the digital version?

    • I was wondering the same thing, and are the saves compatible? Anyone know?

      • As long as they're from the same region the saves will work. Usually you have to download the entire game, you can't use the data from the disc copy. Maybe that's changed but it's the way things were when I played PlayStation.

        • Yeah, you have to download the digital version, can't just buy it and and "activate" the disc version you've already got installed to run without the disc.

I'm not sure if the saves are compatible in a case like Horizon, where I already own the original game but not the complete edition - it's possible it might view those as separate games?

          • @AngusD: I just remember having uncharted installed via disc version and it wouldn’t let me activate the digital version as I already own the game. So if I uninstalled the disc version can I then get the digital version

            • @Twisty: You should be able to "purchase" the game (for free) no problem if you already own the disc version. I just don't think it will let you download it if the disc version is already installed. I guess if you're having trouble then just delete the installed version (make sure your save are backed up first), then try again to get the digital one.

              • @AngusD: Thanks
Yer if I remember correctly then I’ll have to deleted disc version first

    • Unsure if it's free to keep, or only within that time period that it's free to play.

      • +1

This is not a free to play version, once you download it during the limited time, you can keep it forever.

    • +1

I have black ops 3 on disc installed and I downloaded the digital version when it was free no problems on ps5.

      • Ok cool

  • Meanwhile… I gotta shell out $50+ to play HZD on PC? Sigh

    • Yeah I'm still waiting, tbh I thought it was a bit overrated when I played on PS4 PRO but I think at $25 I'll bite at the complete version on PC.

    • +1

Well you could shell out $300-$400 to get a PS4 so it is up to you.

  • Sold my PS4, waiting for a PS5. How do I get such free games?

    • +4

Just go to the PS Store on PC or Mobile and get them on your account. Once you get a PS5, the games will show on your account.

  • +5

Why do I even bother buying games

    • +7

Honestly with PS Plus and Xbox GamePass I'm asking the same question

    • +10

True! Just stop buying games, and wait for the off chance that the game you really want to play might become free in 5 years.

      • If it is single player it isn't as crazy as it sounds, especially with a pile of shame to clear through. They'll get their bugs patched and hopefully get a 60fps patch on the new consoles too. Along with Epic giving away free games, and some very low cost bundles buying new games at RRP almost foreign to me.

    • +1

Well it is up to you if you want to buy and play games when they are newer or wait and risk it when they are older and promos coming out like this. You already had the enjoyment of playing these before the rest that didn't Congratulations!

    • picked it up on sale as I wanted the extra content, waste of time now

    • Well with the backlog I have from the psn subscription and the 2 last huge games for me I won't be buying for some time to come.

  • +9

I bought a few of these games and can tell you:

HZD - amazing but quite difficult. Not something that can be played casually IMO.

Astro bot rescue mission is the pick of the lot. Imagine Mario is the little robot in a very impressive VR world.

Moss- a cute little adventure with decent VR controls.

Witness - beautiful game but interest lasted for 30 minutes for me.

    • HZD - amazing but quite difficult. Not something that can be played casually IMO.

Very true. I think I've restarted the first 1 hour of this game about 3 times now. I start playing it and put it down for a few weeks/months and its too hard to pick up cold. I doubt I will ever play it haha.

      • +1

You can set the difficulty in the options - there's a huge selection from "Story Mode" (where it's almost impossible to lose any combat situation) up to "Ultra Hard". The story is so immersive that it's worth playing for that alone!

    • +1

Eh, I found a couple of the TRex style fights a bit of a challenge, but it’s the only game I’ve ever got a platinum on (base game)

  • +10

I've been using an XB for the past 4 years and recently bought a PS5. Pretty pumped at the backlog of brilliant games. I bought Ratchet and Clank and the following week it was made free. Last week I bought Horizon, and now see the news that it's being made free too. Haha, fml.

    • +3

Thanks for your sacrifice. Can you purchase miles morales so we can get it free haha

    • +1

What do you plan to buy next so it'll become free for us? Haha But seriously that does suck :/

  • +2

Wow…..I don't own any of these!!! Woop woop!

    • Lucky! I own all of them! :P Well, except the VR ones, that is.

But you are in for a treat, there are some REALLY good ones here. Horizon, Rez and The Witness are my pick of them, but the others are all good, too.

  • +4

This is the best deal ever

    • +1

I would say plenty of people - including myself.

    • Me. So I'm stoked!

    • I sold my PS4 a while back but will be getting a PS5 when I can. I had a PS4 since literal midnight of launch day, until I sold it. Had the Pro, OG, and Slim. Couple hundred platinum trophies, and all. Plat'd first parties like Spidey, both PS4 inFamous games, Gravity Rush, all 5 PS4 Uncharteds, Ratchet PS4, and so on.

      I've never played Horizon.

    • +2

      114 million PS4s sold worldwide.
10 million copies of Horizon ZD sold worldwide.
Say that all 10 million players lent their copy to a friend, or 10 million resold, that’s still 70 million players that can benefit from this deal.

    • +1

Ahh this is the "I am like this so everybody must be like this" type of person

    • This comment seems to be working out really well for you

    • …..me

  • I'm a little confused, HZD is free to own once you buy it, or only as a time based demo?

I've already played and sold it, great game. Would like to own it on PSN but not so interested if I only have a short window to play it again.

    • -4

I'd imagine it's like every other game on PS+ - it's added to your library and as long as you have a subscription, you can play any of the games. You can re-download games as well - as long as you have an active subscription.

      • +4

Don’t need PS+ for this, it’s free to keep for everyone.

    • +1

There’s a limited time to claim it for free, but once you do you keep it forever.

      • +1

Perfect. Great game to be given fully free.

  • Oh nice. Hope my Horizon save from disc works for the complete edition so I can give the DLC a bash.

    Great game. really enjoyed it.

  • +4

    Definitely recommend Rez!

    • Great in VR too!

    • +2

Of course DreamcastBoi would say that.

  • That'd be right, I sell my PS VR like 7 or 8 months ago and now they put Astro Bot up for free when I don't even own a PS4 anymore. Those bastards!

    • What about your xbot1, did you sell that too?

      • Nah, I threw that at the missus' place when I got the Series X. Love bouncing between the two with the auto cloud save and syncing.

  • +1

    Cant recommend HZD highly enough

  • Does anyone know / suspect if this will be the last batch of games given for free as part of the current promotion?

I'm tempted to buy The Last of Us 1 to replay prior to TLoU 2, but won't if there's a fair chance it might be free.

    • The initiative is good until June this year. There’s a chance they will give part I for free….or not.
