How much do we normally overpay for them?

    edit, got it:

(I think normal price is over $20):

  • +7

at this price it's like buy 2 get 4 free!

  • Hokkaido is my favourite level in Hitman (2016).

    • Good to know. Thanks for the info.

    • You have my deepest gratitude, bread of loin

  • Yuzi is the best flavour

    • +3

      Deal is only for original?

  • Never tried this but I love Dim Sum egg tarts and Portuguese tarts
    Not the same

    • +6

Definately not the same. This is creamier/more runny and has a sharper cheese taste. The pastry crust is usually more doughy and harder.

      • +2

I love the egg tart pastry. Will pass then. Thanks

        • +2

Same here. Tried them once for the experience but wouldnt buy them again.

      • +1

Not impressed by these "Hokkaido style" tarts. Eaten a selection once with Groupon discount. Also eaten on many trips to Japan, where people queue for much better ones.

        Wouldn't buy these again.
        Will leave for others!

Prefer the crisp flakey pastry of Dim Sum egg tarts and Portuguese tarts.

        • Not all Dim Sum restaurants can produce nice crisp flakey pastry. Must be difficult to make

          • +1

@trixieb: If they sit around (on trolley) they won't be crisp.

    • +1

i think portugese egg tarts are much better than this hokkaido one.
personally i like portugese, i lean towards a bit sweet pastry
i find the salty pastry tend to be a bit unusual flavour

  • Damnit they open at 10 @ Westfield. Chuck a sickie maybe.

  • Love these, even better at the promo price! Shame it's on a weekday and there isn't even one close to me 😥

  • +2

    good tarts.

these guys almost never do giveaway. this come indeed a surprise offer

do they have limit something like that ? I don't smell they giveaway tarts a whole day like this price :)

  • +5

You can pay with Liven as well.

    • 10% reward credit

  • +5

Tried these once. Pretty tasty, but not worth the price.

I'd guess that most of the regular buyers are happy to pay extra, not because of the taste of the product, but instead because it is a semi-luxury product. Expensive packaging, fancy brand name, designed to be very desirable.

I prefer to buy a few yummy treats from a typical Chinese bakery. They will also taste very good and be much cheaper.. but they won't come with the packaging or the brand name!!!

  • Thats a ripper deal.. Pity i live in regional..

  • hopefully not in 'shrinked' version

  • why didn't I know yesterday when I walked past the store :|

    • It starts in 5 days mate!

      • ohh okay so it is on Wed next week, cheer! I think I can make it

  • The Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts in Australia taste much more inferior to the same ones you find in other countries.

  • I can go to either World Square or Chatswood store. Which do you think will have a bigger queue?

  • Limit 1 per person?

  • +1

There’s a 20+ person line at top ryde for anyone wondering…and its still 15 minutes until opening time

    • Top Ryde shop assistant with glasses told everyone they've sold out Just now.

  • +1

6 people in queue @9:20 (20 min after opening) @Westfield Mt Gravatt (Brisbane).

@9:30, mine was order #18. Used Liven.

They take order & give receipt, to return in 15+ min to pick up. But 12 waiting to pickup after 15 min.
That way, comes freshly out of oven.

Had asked for 6 - they thought I wanted 6 boxes, & seemed OK with that. Bought 1.

(Was near store, so giving them a second try, given low price. Bought 6 previously for ~$12 through Groupon, after discount & cashback. Wasn't impressed.)

    10:00 sold out
10:30 still long queue to pick up

  • +2

I asked for 5 boxes and the worker thought I was mad 😂…she said no

    • Many at my local placed orders for multiple boxes. I asked for 6 & was told the price - corrected order to just 1 box of 6!

  • Sold out after 1 hr @Westfield Mt Gravatt (Brisbane)

    • On sale again.

  • Waiting in line at world square, line probably about 60 people. They don't have the tarts ready, seems like they need to bake them which takes a while, so line only moves once in a while

  • Garden city sold out. Awful organization. No notice or anything

    • Sold out @10
Now just a huge slow moving queue waiting to pick up! It just gets longer - 25 waiting!
Checked - most are trying to order…

Was going to eat for breakfast…
Fortunately, Motto Motto next door is open. Free 3 piece chicken karaage on App! I won't starve😜

    • I naively thought it was an all day deal. Lucky I checked here before making the trip :/ Apparently there was a choux deal yesterday but never saw it advertised online

      • The choux was only on Kurimu branded store I think

      • +1

Tarts are on again. They take a break after a batch of orders. Many were ordering multiple boxes.

    • Store started taking orders again.
Pickup of earlier orders is given priority,.
Short queue to left of shop for pickup, not the long queue!

  • Don’t go to top ryde lol. There’s a 30min wait time for the queue and another 1 hr wait time to get the tarts. There’s only one staff too so no one knows until they get to the counter.

  • At World Square. They are letting people buy more than one box 🙁

    • +1

They replied to comments on Facebook saying there's no limit

      • Not very fair if people who have lined up for hours miss out.

        • It's taking ages because yes they have to bake them and most people are buying 4 boxes.

        • I agree with that, but also seems like they weren't very organised in the first place

  • can you keep this in fridge for few days?

    • Best eaten warm out of the oven.
First time I bought - it was cold & unimpressive.

      • I just found an answer from their website, can keep in fridge for 4 days, best consume in 2 days

        • Yes, like other dairy based foods - can store for few days in fridge.

          But should you?
That's missing why people queue for fresh out of oven ones.
Warm gooey cheesy goodness that runs everywhere! The lovely soft crust becomes hard with storage.

Had my first straight out of oven experience today. Changed my mind about these.
          Upvoted!

          • @INFIDEL: You mean when served out of oven, they would be the savoury version of Dim Sum egg tarts or Portuguese tarts?

            • +1

@trixieb: No, those are still my favourites.

When hot, these are soft & runny, with a subtle cheesy flavour.
              Something I hadn't experienced when previously.sold a box that had been.sitting around.

  • Lol massive line outside world square, stretches to the other esculator in front of Ally. Walked past and looked like the oven was empty, lol why isnt it constantly in use? Good luck

    • Still worth going after work? Long lines? Or sold out now?

  • Still available at Chadstone. About a 20 min queue.

    Edit: Sold out at Chadstone

  • I went to the Hurstville store at 11:45 and was already sold out.

  • Do they close shop when they sell out?

    • +1

No, they still have the other flavoured tarts to sell. They just had a "sold out" label on top of the $8.80 poster.

    • Garden City (Brisbane) sells orders for a batch. Takes a break & won't sell - no explanation. Then sells again.

  • Ok so there's no one at Wynyard. Go there instead of waiting forever at world square. pic: https://imgur.com/a/4CVyYtL

    • Just went, sold out too

  • Just make sure you check how much tart they put into box, I went home and found out I only got 5in there!

  • Anyone still know how garden city is going? Was gonna go in at 5 pm after work… But doesn't sound promising.

    • Not bad, around 10 queue

      • Dang I just assumed not worth going and didn't bother

  • +1

Anyone know if QV Melb is still selling these? EDIT: Line goes to Swanston St, approx 100+ people in queue

    • Those tarts would be for dinner
