  • Sorry Leftdrop, this is only 6c cheaper than eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Electronic-6-Steel-15CM-LCD-Digit…).

You got me excited there for a moment but I don't class this as a 'bargain' sorry… unless you can tell us why yours is different?! Definitely not worthy of a 'neg' tho :)

  • +3

I want to buy it. But i can't figure out what i'm going to use it for.

I call this the ozbargain syndrome.

    • +1

they are handy for measuring stuff, bolt threads, holes, etc

        penis

        • You will need one PlayerOne… :-)

        • 150mm scale… that should just about do for thickness…

Is it wrong that I'm considering getting one, because it's easier than finding the right batteries for my Mitutoyo caliper?

    • It is wrong! I think it's a SR44 battery for the Mitutoyo, you can get them at Jaycar, camera shops maybe even the supermarket. You cant get much better caliper/measuring equipment than Mitutoyo, stick with it :-)

waste of money, purchased some a couple of months ago and they are horribly inaccurate - need to pay the money of you want decent ones

    • +2

This is exactly what I was thinking. What is the point of buying a micrometer that is not extremely accurate?

      • -2

        a) it's not a micrometer. It's a caliper.
        b) of course it's not going to be accurate to 0.01mm, which the scale reads, but I'd trust it to 0.1mm. That's better than a ruler, which is your next best option.
        c) lots of round things need measuring on dimensions that are difficult to measure without calipers. Bicycle seatposts, for example. They can be bought on just about every 0.1mm increment from 25.4mm up to 31.9mm. Are you going to eyeball that with a Toledo steel rule, or are you going to grab a cheap caliper? Internal diameters of pipes are also difficult to measure without an inside caliper.

I was joking above about getting these to replace my Mitutoyo. But I wasn't joking about being too goddamn lazy to replace the Mitu's batteries. At the moment I'm slumming with a really cheap nasty plastic vernier caliper. Doesn't need batteries, more accurate than a ruler, so good enough for most of my needs.

You learnt the hard way. Pretty much any application that requires this tool will need it to be as accurate as possible and calibrated properly, and going by the quality of the crap these Chinese sites sell, it's something they can't offer or guarantee. Don't waste your time or money.

    • Sounds like you got duds. I have many of these $10 ones and frequently use them. Never had a single one that wasn't spot on accurate and that didn't break without my gross negligence.

I highly recommend them, they have three measuring modes, many people are suprised how many uses calipers have until they have a set.

It's not accurate. I've had one and these cheap china crap are usually off by quite a bit. After a while of usage it also shat itself. Good ol traditional VC is the best.

  • the only reason you buy these "china crap" is you want to buy these "china crap". you can always pay more for good quality stuff "Made in China". you choose to be cheap. dont complain.

I'm surprised at the complaints. I have a similar calipers from Dealextreme and the only problem was with the battery connection.
I use it all the time for measuring threads, holes, bits, pipes, etc.
It is easier/quicker to read and less chance of mistakes than traditional calipers.
You just need to check it is zeroed properly.
