  • Hey bargrin, How is your fryer going? Do you use it much? Could you fry spring rolls and arancini in it? Any breaded items? Thanks

I love my philips airfryer, I use it everyday for various things but mainly chips, nuggests, crumbed fish, all the stuff you get in frozen section.

Its great cause it cooks stuff in 15 mins and you dont have to turn on the bigger oven and use more power cause you cooking in a smaller space. Plus its easy to clean and compact, you cook in the small space, take it out wash and your done. Really love it ease of use and compactness.

      • I was dubious about the airfryer but I tried some chicken nuggets the other day that had been prepared that way and they were pretty good considering the minimal added oil.

  • I have a friend who is keen on this device. This is an essential read for anyone interested in this device,
    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/tefal-actifry/2.html

There are quite a few reviews and the scores are reasonable, but despite the scores, many reviewers say the same thing… It breaks easily. There's supposedly a version that works well.

Btw, good deal compared to other retailers.

    • Yup, that would be the black version which is a newer revision of this and apparently made from stronger parts. Hard to find local stock of that model though.

  • I got one from amazon.co.uk, from the last deal here(http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/74178). It was around $165 and came with an international warranty

  • i got one of these a while ago. they are pretty good. not a real deep fryer, more like an oven heater that stirs the contents around.
you can do full meals in them too

    • Can I make soup?

can someone explain how is this different to an oven with a fan. I have not managed to find much info of a comparison

    • The difference at least with chips is that they taste like chips from a deep fryer. Not oven crunchy.

Exactly! I think the comparison between this and a deep fryer is invalid. We should be comparing it with an oven.

      Smaller? Faster? More convenient?

    • +1

As mentioned above, it's an oven with a stirring action so you don't have to turn it over and results in generally crispier chips.

Every review I've read suggests that it's really only good for store-bought frozen chips and doesn't give any advantage over an oven for anything else.

  • i thought this model has a lot problems compare to philips's..?

  • I've heard that the newer black model is a lot better.

    • hides the scorch marks anyway

owner of one of these representin'. Had no problems with the quality of it, personally.

The paddle thing in the middle (which slowly "stirs" your food around) does go brown (black eventually?) over time. Was pretty funny watching my wife assure me that it will come off with some gumption & elbow grease. She got some off, but most of it is still there.

  • Might see if goodguys will match as i still got my 20% off cards, plus good guys giving a free jamie oliver apron wit purchase, score!

    • you have an airfryer and now you want a actifry? Even worse, you really want one of those aprons? :)

      • +1

Bargains are my cocaine, i cant snort enogh of em!

  • had the same deep fried stuff from one of these and a real deep fryer, the real deep fryer always wins.
