Amazon Prime - 1 Week Delay to CBD Areas

Hi all

I've had Prime for a while and have just noticed something prior to Christmas. If I order something to my place in Melbourne CBD, it will arrive a week plus after sending it to friends or family's place in other suburbs in Melbourne.

Thought it might be a Christmas thing with delivery but even now that is still the case - I can see items arriving the next day for other suburbs, but anything in the CBD (and Docklands, but not Carlton or Southbank) will arrive about a week later. I have tried items across various categories and same issue. Games preorder would also not come on launch days (I complained and they said they could expedite the order and it was a day late vs a week late as per the app), and for an upcoming game now I am offered the opportunity to pay extra for shipping to get it on launch day.

I've also tried asking my friend to check on their own account and seems to be the same delayed delivery, and seems to also be the case for Sydney CBD.

I've complained to Amazon via live chat and over the phone but they can't give me a proper answer. Have emailed them (as suggested by customer service) and followed up but never heard back.

Anyone know why this might be the case and what can be done about it / is there a good email address to complain to?

Thanks

There is 3 days delay already!

  • Melbourne CBD is hard place to deliver and I doubt many Amazon flex drivers who are outside of the CBD would like to do those runs.

If you drive anywhere into the CBD from Melbourne, it is the last 10 kilometers of the CBD that takes 2x the time (unless it is really early on weekends).

Plus there would be lots of demand for deliveries in the CBD.

    • Drivers have no choice…

      • When you have downloaded the app and completed your registration you will be able to see available delivery blocks in your area, including how long we estimate each delivery block will take and how much you will be paid, so you can rest assured that your time on the road is well spent.

What it says on the Amazon flex page.

Say if I lived in the city. For me to travel to the warehouse, load up and back into CBD. Probably a big "no thanks".

I'd suspect if you can afford to live in the city it is either:

        • I can afford it
        • I can't afford it (forget about a car) but living sharing a 2BR with 4 people kind of afford it

There is very few with cars in the city that needs to do a side hustle. I have seen a BMW X5 do Uber in the city but then I can't be for sure whether they live in the city. Also seen a Porsche SUV with "courier" on the side and big brown boxes inside.

        • will be able to see available delivery blocks in your area,

They have 2 or 3 depots servicing Melbourne (Tullamarine, Clayton area, ??). Drivers don't know which suburbs they'll get until after loading at the depot. They either take the CBD run or forfeit

          • @randomusername2017: So you are contradicting the Amazon Flex website?

            Amazon flex website

Everything points to delivery blocks offered in your local area. Unless you want to live in the suburbs and then drive closer to the city to pick up a city block.

Drivers do not get a choice of suburb.
Each depot has a set area and drivers are allocated from that group.

Ridester is well out of date/US based.

If CBD deliveries are delayed that's on Amazon fulfilment. Currently more drivers than there are blocks in most markets.

Well there you go. Got sucked in. Haven't been sucked in yet. Thanks for playing.

  • is it delayed if the estimate is accurate?

send bezos a twitter dm and demand satisfaction

  • Move next door to the Amazon distribution centre. Should sort it. If that doesn't work, hit up Bezos.

  • They pay the drivers a pittance. I know here in Brisbane most now refuse to do CBD runs as they cant legally stop anywhere. They also cant usually leave packages in a safe place, so they end up taking half back to the depot. Then amazon threatens them for not performing lol

  • I'd say because of the drivers can't park anywhere.

There's 2 pick up locations in Melb CBD- Southern Cross and Melb Central. For anything urgent pick it from the locker.

    • Didn't know that. Might try this

      • Didn't quite work for me. Tried the Southern Cross 24 hour drop off and that's 2 days later than my home address

  • I would wager it's because getting vehicles/deliveries into CBDs is becoming a royal PITA for everyone concerned in terms of both moving around and parking. I wouldn't be surprised if these are being bulked up into periodic deliveries rather than just going out the door as they are received. Much easier to get around and park in the suburbs rather than CBDs where if you can't get access to loading docks it can be just about impossible to stop anywhere legally to make a delivery.

  • Are you sending to a pobox / parcel locker ?iv noticed If I send to my pobox for delivery it is over 1 week eta, to my house next day or so..

    • Nah, it's being sent to my house

  • Are all the items you looked at shipped by Amazon AU?
