  • Thanks! Successfully pricematched at Officeworks as well.

How often do these go on sale?

    • +1

why not do a search and see how often a deal comes up?

      • -3

        Yeah nah

        • Thanks for confirming your laziness.

        • Yeah nah

Ok but that doesn’t answer my question

    • Not often; like every other Apple product

  • Sad just bought off an eBay sale for $184

    • Apple refrb is consistently $169. Keep an eye there.

  • +1

I got three ebay pencils for $60 they work great! Not sure why you would pay $160 for 1!

    • +4

      Link?

    • Let us know if they can do the functions of an actual Apple Pencil: https://www.macrumors.com/guide/apple-pencil/
The copycats might be fine for those who don't use advanced features of a real Apple pencil…

    • +1

Yep, loving my aliexpress pencil! Just make sure you get a Bluetooth one not just a capacitive pen

      • how do you uh, actually pair the bluetooth?

    • True. Also you can nominate accessories with iPad AC+ for extended warranty and repair.

Not sure how well it works in general, but I had my Apple pencil replaced because of dead battery in the past, even when it's not bought with the machine and supposedly out of warranty on its own.

      • Interesting.. my son's Apple pencil just died, the pencil used to be mine but the iPad is only a few months old. Assumed I just had to replace it but might have to check on this now, thanks!

    • If they can make a magnetic charging version that attaches to the side of an air 4, I'd be interested. Cbf with cables

got one for anniversary for $210, she loved it, but if she finds this deal she is going to kill me…plz hide this deal

I price matched today against this mob, the receipt says they price beat against $147, price guarantee of $7.35, end price of $139.65.

    • That’s the one I am planning to do as well. Price matching with that online company.

    • Cheers. Will see if I can get OW to price match it successfully. Niece has been wanting one for her birthday.

    • Does JB do price matched with this mob?

    • Anyone that uses this beware OW may use the line of "Oh we only price match items with the product code"..

    • Tried to match via JB's online chat - refused due to "unfortunately not able to match this item as its not a legit store front and has a house for the adress"

Called the Officeworks number - done. $140.59

    • Successfully price matched just then and got it for $140.59!

      • Can’t get a price match with OW. Same argument, no business details , no product code and they said it is only a house

      • May I know when successfully price matched through phone call, I need to pay online or can pay in store when picking up?

        • They require you to pay via phone. You just punch in your credit card number and ccv using your keypad. The operator does not have access to your credit card number.

    • Thanks for the link, managed to price beat them with OW.

    • That sounds awesome ! You went to some an Officeworks store and got price match ?

      • I went in store, but I'm out in regional, so the staff are less picky about "the rules". They did have to look up the site, but didn't really care that it was "a house".

    • this mob

Thanks for this, pretty good price with free delivery and saves rooting around to get price matched for collection.

  • +1

Good price; I'll pencil it in.

    • Maybe you don’t own an iPad so I can excuse your ignorance.

    • +3

It's not simply a pencil with an Apple sticker. Have you read up the functions of the Pencil 2? There are people who make use of the advanced features of the Pencil 2 for photos, video, graphics etc on the iPads… The irony calling other people idiots.
P.s. No, I did not buy one but at least I am not making uninformed comment :-p

      • He probably thinks it's a 2B pencil.

    • 12 hours battery life, wireless charging, double tap to change tools, pressure sensitivity, tilt/angle detection, no lag. Plenty of functions for the price. Feels like writing with a real pencil/pen, except you have more control and can easily erase.

    • Would calling it an Apple Stylus help you understanding the product?

  • I just got one for free with Telstra points. I got almost all the credits from just the free promotions also.

  • They should have named it as ipencil

  • +2

Never knew unleaded pencil could be so expensive

    • Yeah.. What's with that? Hope this comes with a pencil sharpener at that price.

    • That's apple for you. The iPhone's are going to be over $2k soon and they will be lining up out the door for it

      • +1

The current iPhone Pro Max is already over $2k for the bigger storage model!

      • +3

I hate to break this to you, but you can also spend over $2000 on an Android phone.

Basically, any product Apple has, there's a competitor in another ecosystem.

Also, IIRC, there haven't been queues for a long time.

        • +1

True but I find android people don't tend to spend this sort of dollars or they get it heavily discounted. Apple don't really discount. I've had a few apple fanboys explain to me why they think spending $2k on a phone is a good idea, I've never had that with an android user.

  • -1

Wait, the deal is over at OW. Too quickkk

    • +2

there never was a deal at ow thus the need to price beat amazon

      • So OW does price beat, what about JB?

        • See the first comment !

  • Top tip: Applecare+ for iPad covers the Apple Pencil… even if they weren't bought at the same time.. or even the same year.

(read into this what you will)

  • I went to my local OW to price beat JBHIFI but they initially refused because they said they don't accept items on sale and JBHIFI do their own sales/pricing? I was so confused, was about to whip our their price beat guarantee conditions from their own website. But they strangely accepted Amazon even though it was the exact price. Anyway, used four of my discounted gift cards and left behind a long queue. Poor kid probably got annoyed with me lmao

  • So these only work with the pro and later ipads? And not the 10th and 9th gen? Is there a technical reason why or is Apple just being Apple here?

Almost grabbed one before checking compatibility.

    • It doesn’t have a lightning or USB-C connector so it’ll only work with iPads that have the magnetic charging connector on the side.

      • +1

I thought connectivity was noy physical so its only an arbitrary software thing stopping them from being compatible, so I'd assume the constraint is the displays themselves in some part.

        • +1

Yeah, I doubt there’s actually much of a difference in the technology between 1st and 2nd gen. Performance seems nearly identical.

But If it did work with a 9/10th gen iPad you’d never be able to charge it without an iPad Pro or mini as a charging accessory

    • +1

You saved me mate. Was on call, holding the line with OW, and read your comment. Double checked, and you were absolutely correct. Doesn’t work with my iPad 9 Gen.

  • +2

This may be a "bargain" for the Apple v2 pencil, but for those who just want a compatible pencil for occasional use, you'll find plenty of options on Amazon, eBay etc. I bought one from Amazon at Christmas for $23 and it works just fine (tested on iPad 9th Gen and latest iPad mini)

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07XMM1983?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…

    • Too bad they don't have the magnetic charging capability.

      • Agree, but not a big issue unless you are a heavy user. The one I bought charges via microUSB.

  • The Apple Pencil gen 2 is pretty remarkable considering it has pressure sensitivity. A feature even the Logitech Crayon at $129 doesn’t even have.
Saying that, if you don’t need the pressure sensitivity and don’t need the magnetic charging, there are quite a few well reviewed models on Amazon that work well.
I purchased this one from Amazon for $25:
    https://amzn.asia/d/gfLbL0W
I use it with my 12.9 iPad Pro M1 and it works great. Haven’t even needed to charge it yet.

  • Looks like gig's up, OW have matched Amazon's price of $169.

  • Definitely not over, just nipped into Officeworks Fitzroy, VIC at 1.23pm today and they price matched for $140.60, Third off… Nice!

    • Not against the Brobale one, but definitely not able to PM Amazon's $169.

  • I just rushed into Officeworks nearby, and bought one at $140.59
The staff spoke with his supervisor first of all, then checked me out.
Don’t understand much why $7 less than Brobale.com. I thought about 10% less.
But anyway, I am happy with the price.

    Thanks OB mates.

    • +1

It’s 5% off the matched price.
      So ~$7 ($7.40) sounds right.

      • I see. I thought it was 10%. Did I see somewhere “we will beat them by 10%” ?
Anyway, I am happy with what I got. Period.

        • Bunnings has the 10% price beat

          • @AirJordan23: Thanks. I checked out that Officeworks does have 5% price beat policy.
I must have mixed it up with Bunnings Warehouse 10% price beat.

            • @Hayeswei: All good no worries, I tried to have it priced match in OW but they declined as there are no business details.

I’ll try to call them tomorrow
