I had (still have 2 months subscription remaining) Surfshark so that I could use it to watch Japanese TV via TVer app.

Surfshark does not handle it well at all.

It was also very buggy - I reported the bugs and had communications with the tech team but they wouldn't fix the bugs. One super annoying bug is that it ignores all your settings - I would set it to autoconnect to Japan whenever there was a disruption to the internet connection. Surfshark will just ignore that and connect to a random server. There are other bugs as well.

There was also a situation where I used Surfshark to connect to Brazil so that I could renew my Xbox Live. I just could not get Xbox Live to be renewed. I fiddled around for 3 days and wouldn't work. Then I did an IP lookup and I was connected to Washington State in the US even though Surfshark was telling me it was connected to Brazil. I switched to the free version of Tunnel Bear and I was able to renew my Xbox Live within minutes.

These are just the 2 specific examples of Surfshark not working, there were more.

I switched to NordVPN a month ago when I realised that Surfshark subscription was coming to an end. Have had ZERO issues with NordVPN. It also feels faster and smoother connecting to Japan for TVer.

I personally prefer Surfshark just because it's easier to use, but it seems like Nord is more popular here based on the voting. I also don't use VPN to watch Netflix etc. I don't think you can use Surfshark to do it if that is your main goal.

      • I have Surfshark, and I have to turn it off for Netflix to work.

  • Nice upsize from the usual 10%

I would argue this is around the usual cashback every month from SB or CR

Can any existing user confirm if we can use it to connect to India Servers ?

    • +3

They have virtual servers listed as being in Delhi and Mumbai.

  • If I have previously claimed a surfshark cashback, can I still claim again if buying a new surfshark account?

    • Would also like to know this. My Surfshark subscription runs out next month, only way I’d stick with them is if I could get 98% CB again @tightarse

Oops just realised this is shopback

Can't search on Big W site. come back with Oops…
Something has gone wrong our side. Sorry about that.

  • Would you recommend Surfshark or NordVPN to watch Netflix in differrent regions?

    • Haven't tried Nord, but I use Surfshark to watch US Netflix and HBOmax without any issues.

      • I have Surfshark, and I have to turn it off for Netflix to work (in Oz even!). Am I doing something wrong?

        • +1

Possibly, try get in touch with tech support and see if you need to change any settings on your end as it should work fine.

I don't trust shopback. Heard lots of stories where cashback getting rejected. If it was cashrewards I would have jumped on it. I still have few pending cashbacks from 2021 not approved. Since then I stopped using that

    • I agree, Cashrewards is much better than ShopBack in my personal experience.

still chasing westpac cashback from almost 3 weeks ago

      • Yep, same here. The bonus $10 from a Chemist Warehouse offer failed to track, and though I contacted customer support, they suddenly went quiet.

        • i got the regular ebay stuff and that tracked but the westpac stuff did not, despite using a card so idk. A lot more issues than id like thats for sure

    • Don't trust shop back. Rejected $65 ebay. Have to chase for every Cashback. Not worth the hassle.

  • 98% back is for everybody. The only difference is new customers use the code SHARKSPECIAL and existing customers use the code SHOPBACK.

    • Be cautious. Your cashback will be rejected even though it is tracked. Terms clearly states new customers only.

      • Yeah, I know. Did the same thing last time and it went through fine despite being for "new customers only"

Can always contact support immediately if there are any issues or doubts as they are usually really good.

  • Is the 98% actually 98%? Or is it more like Cashrewards Nord 96% which is actually 88.5%

    • Even worse, I paid $95.18 and $82.23 tracked, so 86.3%

      • Yeah, it’s 98% of the ex-GST value after some fictional USD/AUD conversion rate.

        • So even if you didn't pay GST, it is taken out from cashback?

          • @ace310: It shouldn’t.

            • @DJSmelly: Well, like others have already reported we are not seeing the advertised cashback of 98%. But it is close of 86%.

              • @ace310: I just spoke to a colleague at work who took up this offer and didn’t pay GST (selected another country). They were charged $86.52 on HSBC CC and cashback tracked at $82.23. So about 95% but still not 98% due to the different currency conversion. This is from the Shopback notes:

Due to currency fluctuations, discrepancies may apply to the cashback amount you receive. Please note that the purchase amount ShopBack receives is not what your bank charges you, but what Surfshark reports back to us in AUD.

        • +3

That's true. However, you still only get %86 cashback of what you paid. My problem with the deal is that there is no way to obtain the advertised cashback rate.

  • Anyone been in China very recently (past 3 months or so) have any experience with Surfshark?

Nord used to work great there, until very recently. China seems to have changed the way they deal with VPNs, and pretty much all past reviews became irrelevant.

  • Nord VPN or surfshark vpn? which one you will recommend?

  • It does not work for India as it uses a virtual server instead of a physical server so YouTube India doesn't work, it works with NORD.

    • I use surfshark to access HOTSTAR and SonyLiv using indian server, and it works just fine. So personally it has been good using it for last few years except for few bugs here or there.

    • I have subscribed to Nord today and they said they don’t have the Indian servers now!!! Are sure still it’s working for you?

  • Anyone has any experience using Nord or express VPN recently since change in Indian VPN laws? Do they work ok for indian content using Indian Servers?
