Limited time deal! Good price and cheaper with S&S than any supermarket. I got the 500g on deal the other day, and the coffee seems to be very fresh and delicious. This special is for 1kg beans. Expiry date for the 500g pack I received yesterday is 30/05/2024. No roast date but it seems to be very fresh!

Just got 500g from the previous deal. Tastes like Aldi's Lazzio medium roast which is cheaper and roasted locally.

I'm not an expert and I can't pull a drinkable espresso with either (it's harsh and sour or watery; it's nice with milk though), so please help and share your settings for Breville Barista Express, if somebody owns it and finds their shots acceptable.

Have you cleaned it with coffee oil remover? Worked out eventually that was causing a rancid taste.

      Edit: for my philips automatic

      • Not sure if applicable to a manual machine or necessary at all, because if I use beans that I know from a local roaster, the espresso is just nice. $40/kg however.

        • Sounds like the grind is off but not sure if you can get the right grind coarseness with the inbuilt grinder (I don't own your model) because its either too watery or too sour.

Have found the local roaster beans for me on delonghi automatic tolerate a wider range of coarseness to give a good tasting cup. For me supermarket beans like grinders coffee beans need to be dialled in each time I add new bag in

Ps. Did your machine ever make good coffee with lavazza etc? When my machine needs a descale/clean the coffee gets a bit off tasting sometimes more Sour. I have started using caffeto restore and whilst early days seems to be working well for me

@Chocobros: Sounds like you need to grind finer, sour/watery = under extraction.
If the puck is wet and sloppy like mud grind finer.

            • @Dtezy: Ah should've clarified 99% of the time coffee comes out great with good crema and Puck is dry/well formed. But I've just noticed after making a lot of cups it'll start tasting a bit different (sometimes a bit off or very weak) and usually at that point machine flashes cleaning light. After cleaning tastes back to normal again.

Might just be coincidence though. Haven't owned the machine that long so maybe I'll try finer grinding next time instead of cleaning and see what happens

              • @Chocobros: Yeah would depend on the machine, a lot of people will flush their machines to regulate the temp before pulling the shot.

If you are running a single boiler and using steam would mean the temp isn’t staying constant.

    • Make sure you are not overfilling the basket and use a consistent amount of coffee grounds. Do this by eye, or weigh it. Try to keep consistent tamp pressure.

Watch the extraction and ensure good flow. Adjust grind size based on results. If you are measuring aim for 2g of espresso for every 1g of coffee beans.

I am not a coffee expert at all. This is what I do to get decent results with my cheap Sunbeam machine. I don't bother weighing coffee grounds.

  • Awesome

  • If buying supermarket/long life beans the best by far i've found is Daley St at Coles. Roast date is listed on pack, and it's cheap when half price + they are 200g bags.

    • Just tried a bag of Daley St medium/dark. Impressed that the roast date was only 2 weeks prior.

But as for the taste and texture, I wasn't a fan.

I'd describe it as a chalky / nutty coffee. I prefer creamy choc / toffee tasting beans.

Used in a Jura J9, Breville BES870 and Delonghi Magnifica.

      • I don't recall the one I bought last time but I think it was a purple bag, and it had caramel/chocolate notes. I am using Profitec 500 + Eureka Specialita and was happy with it for the price. They're the only beans I can find for a reasonable price that have recent roast dates.

        • Coles only do the medium/dark or dark now. No idea who wants a raspberry honey coffee?

"Medium/Dark Roast – Intense 11 – Brazilian, Colombian & Kenyan Arabica Beans delivering notes of honey, almond and raspberry, espresso roast, best served with milk, recommended for espresso machine."

The pure medium bags were the choc notes (brazillian like Aldi single origin).

I usually only pick these ones up when they are around the 10-12$ mark at coles, this is probably cheap for amazon but not cheaper then i'd usually go. Just keep an eye out when you're shopping

I haven’t seen the 1kg for that cheap at Coles and Woolies, the 500g ones, yes, but not 1kg.

I see them at least once a month in coles southland (Vic)

Maybe Qld never gets the deal…

          • @PVA: From what I've seen with the deals on beans on here, you're not missing out on much anyway, pleanty of options!!

          • @PVA: Incorrect, they get the 1/2 price oro deals

        • The 1 kg Oro packs used to be $15 half price at Coles (I'm in inner city Sydney) from 2019 (or so) until mid 2021, but it has been creeping up in price for a while since then. Basically the minimum price at my local Coles and Amazon are the same, as you can see from the Camelx3 price history the minimum price has been trending up since mid 2021, was $15, and is now up to $19. So If you can get 1 kg Oro packs for $10 to $12, that's a very good price.

just be careful, when i order stuff from amazon it is always close to expiry date.

i no longer buy grocery store beans, i only buy from a local roaster when it is on sale. usually a bogo deal on here with free shipping. WOW, what a massive difference.

I got this for 15.50 a couple of months ago and it wasn't great. Hard to dial in to get anything decent out of it… Wouldn't pay 15.50 again for it. Maybe 10..

    • 3 negs for giving my opinion jeez

  • Looks like 1/2 prices at coles atm too.
    $19

    $20 at Woolworths

    • Still cheaper with the S&S option via Amazon.

      • That’s true.
I guess it’s more as I’m a low amount user than most.

  • Are these any good for V60 filter coffee?

Can I cancel S&S straight after the order has shipped?

  • No idea about V60. Yes, straight after shipped….
