You should post this as a deal, it would be quite popular.

I can see you've posted it on several other deals, this would save you commenting everywhere :)

    • Back to regular price I think :(

    • +1

      Saying $55 for me

      • 2 in stock now @ $20.81 (Amazon is the seller not 3rd party)

        • Damn missed it! Thanks for the head up though

  • +3

is Nintendo looking at doing a new console of was it all rumors based on nothing?

    • +5

More wishful thinking from the masses.

      And negged for what exactly?

Dont get me wrong I am all for a new Nintendo switch as much as the next person. But there's been nothing out of nintendo to even hint that we are getting a new one anytime soon.

      • At least wade in on the argument instead of just negging? Is that so hard to do?

    • Given how well it's selling they are probably happy to leave it as it is.

      • +2

Yep, once the initial new console price pain is over, its all gravy for Nintendo.

    • Same rumours over the last 3 years, based on nothing.

But yeah, I reckon there should be a new model a year to 5 from now ;P

      • I'd say there's a very high likelihood of a Switch release in 2024. New Tegra chips have launched (first major iteration since the original Switch Tegra) that are 6-8x more powerful and DLSS capable,

2024 is imo is definitely going to have some Nintendo news.

        • I know! That year, or another year, must be the year!

          • @pizzaguy: I know you're being facetious but if you look at the Tegra chips lineup it makes sense. It's not just bullshit, it's a large step up from the previous Tegra. In large the Tegra is developed for mobile gaming applications. And guess what hasn't been refreshed in 5 years?

The new Tegra was released Jan this year. 2023 will give Nintendo time to develop a mass production console ready for release next year with this chip or a slight revision.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: No one is disputing the prowess of the new tegra chip.

And no doubt nintendo could release a handheld device with it.

Whats in doubt is does nintendo have a good enough incentive to sink millions in R&D for a handheld console when the current switch is still selling nicely without needing discount heavily.

Again. Im all for a new faster and improved nintendo handheld device. I am with you there.

But anything thats not said through official channels are to be met with scepticism.

  • +5

I think a new console is maybe 18 months to 2 years off

    • +2

Yeah. They been saying that. Oh just around the corner. Or not long now.

Why cant they just say. What they mean is they would like a nintendo switch pro. With higher spec than current. Its not illegal to say stuff like that.

There is no need to be spreading rumours specially baseless once unless ofcourse you are only in it for the click traffic as that is how you get you paid.

      • +6

Anything non official is click bait, period.

        Why even read that drivel?

        • Oh i dont even entertain such a thing. Just that theres always others who take a snippet of a rumour and run with it like it was gospel.

      • yeah, but looking at Pokemon Violet and Scarlet, you can see the console is at its limit. Nintendo has to do something fast, or they'll lose some game developers, hence gamers.

        • +2

A pro model can fix that

Also wait for tears of the kingdom, I think you'll find it's more a problem with a rushed game freak dev team and not the switch

    • No guarantee it'll be backwards compatible though

There are some bloody good games to play on the switch right now

  • Got one, any recommended casing and screen protector for this OLED version?

  • +1

The upcoming Zelda will obviously be a system seller - there certainly won't be any new hardware announcements before that release. I reckon we'll be looking at the Switch successor as soon as Christmas this year. We only got six months notice that the original Switch was coming. I just hope that the next "Switch" is backwards compatible - OzBargain has unnaturally inflated my physical game collection.

  • Same price on JB. Just in case someone prefers to pick it up this afternoon or has a bunch of discounted GCs.

    • +4

This looks to be the non OLED version.

      • +1

You are right. Didn't notice that. Thanks

      • +1

They can price match that. It could be a better deal if you still have gift cards that were 10-15% off previously.

  • +8

Hard to get excited about this price when the Splatoon and Pokemon OLED models have been on sale for $370. So annoyed I missed out on them. Will patiently wait till they go back on sale again

    • +1

The Pokemon one is starting to sell out, already oos at EB, HN & JB and the Splatoon edition is even rarer these days. I'd just hold out for the BOTW2 edition and pick that up at launch if getting a special edition matters to you.

  • +2

Almost worth it just to play Goldeneye 64.

    • Why? What's so special about it?

      • +3

Goldeneye 64 was commonly referred to as one of the best, if not the best game to ever embrace the Nintendo64 console.

        • Clearly sintro never played it during peak N64 days.

    • Better off with an everdrive & playing on a real N64 console. Also play Goldeneye & Perfect Dark with Mario characters, game hacks extra levels etc, Goldfinger 64.

  • Might get EB to pricematch and trade in my normal switch :|

    • My local EB will no longer price match hardware, only games. They've long only price-matched stores "in the [same] center", now they're going even further. I think the Price Match policy page no longer exists on EB's website too.

…meanwhile, JB will price match Amazon AU no problem.

      • Yeah. Realised ebgames doesn't price match amazon. Sad panda.

Not sure if I want to trade in my switch. Might just because it'd be cheaper if I really need it :/

Trade in value for me is 264 full price. They may price match big w which is on sale for 509, which means a difference about 250$, which isn't bad…

        • I truly don't get that logic from EB Games. "If theyre not in our centre, they're not our competitor."
Well, you just lost a sale to them, so they quite literally are your competitor.

          • @Sharzil: They hope you're too lazy or just can't to go to another store and it definitely works on some people

  • If only the new Zelda game would come out on WiiU… don't really want to buy a whole new console for one game :/

  • +3

Pricematched in store at JB Hi Fi no problem. Saved ~15% with discounted giftcards. Didn't know I was going to buy this today.

    • +1

Im thinking about doing the same. But can decide if I want the switch or should cough up for a steam deck.

      • +1

Depends what games you want to play + if the performance difference is worth it to you IE the frames, resolution, output etc.

    • Hey sorry I’m out of the loop. What is the discounted gift cards link on ozbargain?

  • Where is the best place to buy games for this?

    • +1

      Used (marketplace) - Facebook/Gumtree

Digital (PSPrices.com - Make sure the region is set to Australia)

  • JB hi-fi chat just refused to price match. The chat guy saying he wasbt able to do it.

    • +1

Yep did the same for me. Something about not being able to checkout online and stock issues. I just ended up going in store and showing the price on Amazon.

      • Good to hear there's still hope in store.

Can you buy the gift cards after they agree to price match. Like can they give you a price guarantee, then you go for like 10mins to get gift cards and come back for the purchase?

  • +3

Successfully price matched with JB in store today (Bourke Street) and paid with 15% discounted gift cards 🤑

    • Brings it down to 364.65$ 👍

      • +1

Don't forget to use the $10 perks voucher!
