Flinders St as which state? I am pretty sure there is a Flinders St probably in every state.

    • And suburb. If it's anything like George st. Every suburb practically has one

    • +5

assuming its flinders st station in VIC

  • Man, tried the BOSS iced long black the other day as thought maybe its time to cut out the three farmers union iced coffee's a day and go a canned basic black coffee as I can stash them in my esky to have during the day- and damnnnnn it was unbelievably foul smelling.

The actual taste was not too bad…

Hopefully I just happened to grab an expired one or something.

I tried the latte a few weeks ago. Not good. Tasted like it was made from instant coffee.

    • +3

Their black coffee is pretty average, but the milk-based ones are great IMO. Only around 300kj per can, minimal sugar compared to the 1000+kj and 30+ grams of of sugar that many of the alternatives have. Great alternative to the other servo iced coffees, and even to barista coffee. You can often get a 4 pack at woolies for $10.

      • yeah i thought the latte one was OKAY … kinda weak. Wish someone did like..a triple shot ice long black in a convienient grab n go.

Maybe i'll just go back to starting my day with double scoop total war preworkout…

    • +3

I like their iced long blacks haven't noticed the smell, bit expensive though if drinking regularly.
I've been doing espresso shots into a jug with ice as a substitue which tastes just as good to me.

    • +2

Nah they always smell like that, the first crack ain't great. Potentially yours was extra smelly but yeah, I know what you're describing.

I gave them fair go, 3 cases of different flavours, wasn't for me, fairly average.

      • haha thankfully i am not going crazy then!

        • +1

Give it a shake before opening and you're usually good ;)

          • @Clear: Hmmm yeah I don’t think I did last time 🤔🤔🤔

            Will give it another go

            • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Give Hunt and Brew a go too which is available in Coles and Woolies. It's about 6.4g of sugar in the 400ml bottles so it's not sweet and the coffee flavour is good. I like to freeze them a little so they're like a coffee slushie.

Peru Mocha is good too. Closer to dark chocolate as it's not super sweet despite 16g of sugar.

              • @Clear: I wish hunt and brew would do a straight ice long black. I want the coffee as strong as possible…i guess i could always chug 2-3.. then destroy the site portaloo.

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Sounds like you need yuenyeung.

i remember seeing the long blacks at woolies a few years ago. think they got discontinued from not being popular enough :(

@tdw: to be fair if i wasnt lactose intolerant i would probably be drinking the milk ones too HAHA

                    • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: i'm lactose intolerant and i drink milk ones anyway cos i like to live dangerously lol

                      • +1

@tdw: haha yes, i have never met another fellow lactose intolerant person who actually took their intolerance seriously.

Ice break has lactose free iced coffee now, but the sugar is crazy and the taste only soso.
My fav gotta be farmers union iced coffee - but that goes RIGHT through me - guaranteed 9am 'meeting' everytiem :')

@Jimothy Wongingtons: same! i guess life's too short to banish dairy from my life completely. i do buy vegan ice cream from time to time but it's mainly about finding and then pushing the limits of one's dairy intake

              • @Clear: Seems to be a very personal thing, and all the ice-coffee options are SO different to each other.
I tried those Hunt & Brew when discounted, and they tasted BAD. No way I'd pay even half the price - the flavour simply was-not for me. I hate waste, but I couldn't finish it.

Not a fan of Boss either, but in its defence, you are comparing something that has 400 cal to something that has 5cal. 2 g of sugar compared to 52g.

  • Very famous amongst Toyota Crown Group ;)

First time saw the drink in Yakuza(like a dragon) video game many years ago

  • I love iced black and iced latte coffee alot, and can be very picky with it because there's so much out there with way too much sugar (coffee is best without sugar at all).

This stuff is drinkable because it doesn't have excessive sugar, but it is so average that even the 'on special' price at a supermarket or convenience store is insane.

It's the most popular brand in Japan. They really mustn't like coffee much over there.

    • Probably because this is all they can grab at early morning and night from places like 7/11 and vending machines. Their choices are only limited to first wave coffee products.
There are some third wave cafes around Tokyo but they don’t open as early and as late as the hours the people there work.

    • +1

They do like coffee, but it's mostly woeful coffee. Like all places, there can be good places, but they are few and far between. Their home coffee brands are not average at best

It's amazing to think that a country that created an iconic piece of coffee kit (hario v60) is surrounded by such harsh coffee

  • +2

Bring on the vending machines I say!

  • Boss coffee is awesome! It has a deep roasted powerful coffee taste, unlike all the hipster cafes selling that washed out sour crap.

  • +1

Damn, which part of flinders st, just came back from there, missed out

  • +5

Double Espresso (Rainbow Blend) is the best. Now we need the vending machines with the option of hot and cold. Good memories getting a hot can for 100 yen at a vending machine, then off to Lawsons for some quality sushi in the morning.

    • Is that the new blue can they sell at coles now? its probably the most milky and tasty of the range.

      • Yep. Pretty much identical to the popular Rainbow Blend in Japan.

        • dope, ill get a bunch whenever there's a decent sale on then

        • +1

@Clear I got the blue one this morning , I rate it!

Will it trigger a toilet explosion yet to see

  • I had this when I went to Japan

the taste was alright but the strength was so weak, it was as if I was taking decaf.

    • I randomly tried a different every day when I was there in 2017. There were two choices: bland, watery, and bitter, or bland, watery and milky.

  • +1

Warning: The "boss" on the logo is not smoking a pipe on the localised cans. This must have been removed to avoid any references to smoking as it is still present on the Japanese verson.

  • Always find that you get a metallic taste from the can with these, but i still quite like them. Managed to get a can this morning

  • Can you take a photo of the person handing out the beverages. As is the clear way of doing this.

    • Just don't give them a compliment. pizzaguy will get overly offended on their behalf even if they don't mind the picture being taken.

  • I wish vending machines full of these were a thing over here.

  • Can vouch, I grabbed 3 this morning.. I'm wired now

  • They really need a milk one without added sugar. They keep releasing foul sweet drinks :\

  • Can you hand out some free ones in Brisbane CBD next week please?

  • It’s not free but much rather pay for a nice coffee :)
