  • Good BUT yucky 400TBW for a 1tb, (im not sure what the other wd blue sata is but the nvme version is 600TBW

    • Kingston NV2 1TB: 320TB

I already did a full sustained write test on mine twice. All these "cost effective" SSDs now feel like consumables. All my failed SSDs so far never even had 5TB written (majority of failed ones had less than 2TB TBW).

      • i had two failed Siliconpower 1TB and they had about 11TBW in two weeks.
Because silly QNAP QuDedup likes to burn SSDs by reading from disk-> write into SSD (and cached in RAM)-> and write out from RAM; thereby wasting SSD.
In my case, the HDD backup with QuDedup was wasting the SSD which is where the backup app was installed.

        [ i have already lodged a ticket ]

        • In that case, maybe get Phison E16 based SSDs. For some reason, those generally have 1600TBW for 1TB. I am cynical about that figure though.

          • @netsurfer: i got wd blues to replace them

            • @FoxJump: And what… disabled the QNAP's RAM cache? how did you make sure it won't reoccur?

              • @resisting the urge: nothing disabled the ram cache. it's just stupid

it will reoccur. i just hope the wd disks handle the writes better than sp

                • @FoxJump: What about the 3 year warranty, did you try to RMA?

EDIT: 3 year warranty and 2M MTBF, oh sorry- that is PNY. Not sure about SP

                  • @resisting the urge: the sp were less a month old. i returned to umart for a full refund

                    • @FoxJump: Wow. Is there a log you can check to see if it was rebuilding the array or was def the cache constantly writing? Maybe there is a way for the QNAP to get misconfigured, the software is pretty poor in them in my exp

                      • @resisting the urge: all you have to do is look at the resource monitor for disks and see the ssd doing a ton of writes, no reads, while hbs3 qudedup backup runs for data on the hdds
and just stare at it until the backup ends

meanwhile with qudedup off, ssds quiet as a whistle

also the idle Disk watching process shows the qudedup stuff writing, writing, etc

ive 32gb of ram so its likely all is cached there when the reads happen

    • +1

      400TBW might seem small.
but my samsung ssd that is from before the "TBW' term became commonplace, has had .. 19TBW over its life of .. maybe … 7 years. and it's only 256gb capacity

  • Thanks, good excuse to buy another copy of Mein Kampf

    • +1

Why would you buy it? It's public domain.

  • Apparently no DRAM on the new version from what I'm seeing on Reddit, e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/NewMaxx/comments/z5kdsc/wd_blue_sa5…
