$700 Gift Card on Telstra 100GB/Month $69/Month 24-Month BYO Mobile Plan (Port-in Customers, in-Store or Callback) @ JB Hi-Fi

770

Email from JB-HiFi today telling me I can get a $700 JB-HiFi gift card when I switch to Telstra on a $69 plan for [EDIT ] 24 months…. This is probably the deal that everyone was holding out for. 100gb of data a month is plenty so get on it!

Unlucky for me just got onto a 365 day boost pre-paid plan so hopefully a few of you can take advantage. Ends 8th Feb.

Usual T&C's apply.

Note - the email earlier today said 12 months as I was showing people at work. They must have updated the image in the URL to be 24 months. Sorry for the hype.

      A 24 month plan is awesome? 😳

      • +11

This is why the revisions tab exists. When it was posted it said 12 months.

  • +17

    24 months.

  • +8

    Picture shows 24 months

    • +5

This definitely said 12 months earlier today… must have been an error. Will update the ad.

      • weird
picture displays $69 per month for 12 months followed by minimum cost only $1656 over 24 months… what

  • +4

    24 months

  • +1

The picture says 24 months? Am I missing something?

    • I've reuploaded the picture from the email on my phone that shows 12 months but looks like JB have decided it should have been 24 months and have since updated the email…

    • -2

Yes you are , it's wrong obviously !

  • +1

In the original email I received it says 12 months but then minimum cost over 24 months.

    • Same here weirdly stated

  • Seems like 24 months OP

    • +1

Email had 12 months earlier today… I'm guessing someone on their end stuffed up and changed the image linked to the URL in the email. Have updated the ad.

  • +5

Damn. Got super excited thinking that 12M and not just $500 GC but $700 @.@

    • +1

So did I… sneaky update to the email and it's like it never existed. I've got the email open on my phone and it says 12 months.

      • +6

Should screenshot it and upload. Maybe we can bring it to JB store and demand for 12M

        • +6

I've just uploaded the picture from my phone to show the one that said 12 months.

        • -3

Getting desperate now , aren't you.

      • Was it an embedded email, a link or sourced/downloaded image?

  • +3

He's right. Email does say 12 months

But underneath says minimum cost 24 months

  • You did ok on boost, 5g(not trial) from 4/4, only reason I havn't jumped on a jb deal, contract saving for me & other features outweigh their giftcards and only 12m commitment at worst

  • +1

that was an emotional roller coaster ride

    • +8

      I'm still emotional.

  • +2

Looks like the Good guys deal is rhe best for the s23 at the moment then.

    • +2

I would say Harvey Norman Optus deal is the best value if you have gone past the FlOptus fear

You can get an outright S23 for $828-$897

      • They are all within the ballpark figure but HN is 24 months and do prefer telstra if paying the same.

        • +1

You can break the contract and only pay the ETC and you can hop onto a cheaper plan like Boost Mobile

You still get to keep the phone and not pay anything more

          • @BargainsGrabber: What? Tell me more about this.
Is this deal for The Good Guys? How much is the etc?

            • @shegeloaf: Have a read on the details and the comments from this deal posted today

              If terminating the plan immediately, your Samsung Galaxy S23 essentially costs (($69 x 24)/2) + $69 (prorated) = $828-$897

              • @BargainsGrabber: Thanks. I will have a look now. I hope i can sign up online as I am overseas at the moment.

                • @shegeloaf: No worries. Maybe get one of your mates to sign up for you on a new number if you can’t head in store by the 16th

          • +1

            @BargainsGrabber: Thanks BG!

      • How does the Harvey deal work?

        • +1

Go in store, choose one of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Optus offers, phone Optus to cancel the plan immediately (you only pay the ETC, which is half of your total plan cost), wait 2 weeks for your pre order, wait one month for your phone bill on that cancellation

          • @BargainsGrabber: Cool. So can I sign up online at harvwy norman and still do the cancellation online and pay the etc?

            • @shegeloaf: Deal is in store only

              • @BargainsGrabber: So what is the deal?
You get a free phone for being on the optus plan?

                • +1

@shegeloaf: Essentially yeh. This isn’t the first time Optus and Harvey Norman run these deals. First started with the Samsung S22, followed by Google Pixel 7 Pro and now this

  • +1

If you are currently with Telstra but not in a current contract.
What's the easiest way to get this deal?

    • I am in the exact same position. I really can't afford not to have Telstra coverage but desperately want to port in. Can I just buy a prepaid SIM card for $20, port my number to optus/Vodafone and then port back in to Telstra? Has anyone tried this?

      • In another thread, someone said to sign up as a new customer (or additional plan on existing account that should count, i would ask). Port your original number into a prepaid, and then cancel original telstra plan and ask Telstra to port in the new number from the prepaid. Can anyone confirm?

        • You can port to another provider (not a Telstra wholesale provider) and port back… but you need to be off the Telstra network for 30 days. I've done this about 4 or 5 times. You used to be able to port away and port back without having to wait 30 days but they are enforcing the 30 day wait now.

          • @SamwiseM: Given this is port-ins only, could you activate a prepaid SIM with another provider, port that number across, and then get your old Telstra number transferred across?

          • @SamwiseM: if they are enforcing the 30 days, an option could be to go and get a Coles $2 SIM and activate that (last time I did this, I didn't have to recharge to activate the service unlike some other providers) and then use that SIM to port in to this deal. Then, with your current number, switch that to a Telstra pre-paid before jumping onto live chat and asking that your pre-paid number be merged with the new plan and the old number to be cancelled. A bit of a headf*** but doable!

            • @wellzi: can i do the prepaid merge in a telstra store?

              • @RR88: I have never personally merged two numbers with Telstra and so I am unsure. I don't see why not, as they do have the required Siebel access in order to do such a thing, it's just whether they're willing/knowledgeable to do so as it's quite a unique request.

                • @wellzi: i am just wondering if i could grenade my day on sunday obtaining this deal.. might give it a shove

          • @SamwiseM: Is there the same issues with porting in and out of Telstra? Is there a 30 day wait to port out if I've only just ported in?

        • +2

I did exactly this about a week ago. I was on an out of contract plan with Telstra, I ported my current number to a Vodafone prepaid for about 2 days, then signed back up with Telstra on the JB HiFi $69 plan for 12 months with the $400 gift card. I then reduced the $69 to $49 per month through an online chat with Telstra mentioning a port in credit which they surprisingly applied.

  • I only see 24 month plan.

  • still a good deal for the 5 minutes it takes to reduce it to $49 a month

    • +1

      How? Chat with customer service?

    • Do you sign up with JBHIFI first and then go to Telstra chat for credit??

  • Remember to cancel once your plan expires, or you keep paying for the high rate unnecessary. My partner did this for a few months :-(
Also JB signs you up to $15-$20 per month screen insurance thing. Remember to cancel that after the first (free) month.

    • +10

they cant sign you up at point of sale for insurance, its illegal

  • 24 months and prev page

  • +5

Went from an amazing deal to a shit deal in the space of 5 minutes :(

    Thanks OP regardless

  • JB with the bait n switch

  • Hey guys, how many months is this plan for? I don't see it mentioned anywhere.

    • 24 months

  • Is this gonna be an mvno or actual Telstra? Anyone have real world experience with this plan vs going through Telstra itself? Is the network not as reliable?
Seems decent but was hoping it had international calls like Boost.

    • It's via Telstra, not an mvno

  • +10

Negotiated a 12 month plan with $500 gift card with JB using the screenshot. Thanks vm 😁

    • Great job 👍

    • get yourself a $10 monthly credit via telstra chat and you've got yourself a whopping deal.

      • How would you get that?

        • +1

Give telstra chat a try and hope you get an operator that gives you $10 monthly credit. If they don't repeat the next day

          • @azngamer: you have to ask, to receive and if your unsuccessful, ask, ask again (its what chats for!)

eventually, someone will give it to you to get you off their back! just don't let a NO stop you from asking, again later that day or the next!

just quote OZB and say, everyone else is getting it…. & don't mention your a jbhi/goodguys customer/contract and dont deserve it, coz, you do!

    • Which store?

    • 😵 did you sign up in person or online?

    • Hi, was it in person? If so which store?

  • Is it possible to get a discount through the Telstra chat for the monthly cost?

I remember phone deals in the past where people could get $20 a month discount, bringing it to $49 a month

  • $500 GC + 12 Month $69($59 w/ port in credit) is the holy grail perfect balance that we likely won't see again

    • +1

Did you contact Telstra chat or jbhifi chat?

      • Telstra once you've signed up. Ask for the $10 monthly port in credit to be applied, may take a few different reps though.

      • +1

I asked (and got) a $20 port in credit via Telstra chat.

        • I didn’t get it yet.
First need to get this deal from Jb then contact Telsra and ask them for $20 discounts because of port in?

          Thanks in advance

          • @shahrah: did you get deal from jbhifi?

          • @shahrah: Yes, correct. First need to sign up via JB Hi Fi and then after connected chat with Telstra about a port in credit. As others have said you may not get it the first time. Just need to keep trying.

        • Was this for the 12 or 24 month plan?

          • @ztune: Mine was the $69 12 month deal with $400 gift card.

            • @lemonty: how did you get it? via chat. they are asking me to go to store and check with them

  • It's a 24 month plan not a 12 month plan.

  • Anyone have a link to the deal? I can't for the life of me find it on the JBHF website.

    • +1

they don't update it on the site. its instore only

  • Should use a different company under telstra like boost or woolworths or belong. This isn’t even good for company claims because the risk of changing jobs in 2 years is a lot higher than 1 and then you’re burdened with paying a premium for 2 years

    • Huh? Just claim per month expenses to your employer, or claim work related percentage on your tax return.

      • You're in a two year commitment for 1656 over 2 years. It's not a good deal for $700 in a gift card form. Essentially you're paying more than $956 over two years because gift cards isn't cash.

  • So can you request 12 months in lieu of 24? is the voucher still the same? also what about the data?

  • Anyone have a good churn strategy for those still on a Telstra plan ?

    • you used to go and get a chjeap sim from another provider and then port that number to telstra and have the service aded to your accouint.
Then you'd get in touch with telstra live support and have them cancel your current service whilst transfering the new one to your old number.

Somebody posted this on an old JB Hifi Deal maybe two years ago if you have a bit of a search it might be explained better

    It's getting worse. first $500 12 months then $400 and now 350 -__-
