HP Deskjet 3720 All-in-One Printer $29 + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas with $55 Order/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

100

Silly me, bought the wrong (genuine) ink cartridges for my HP Officejet. Since I already opened the packaging, figured I won't be able to return them for a refund, so off to bargain hunting for a compatible printer with the ink cartridges (HP65) and found Officeworks selling this printer for $39 while most eBay stores sell it for around $70.

Just noticed that price has dropped to $29 from $39.

you still buy genuine HP ink cartridges?

It's been a long time since I've bought ink cartridges, but aftermarket ones don't seem that much cheaper, and I've had bad experience with them in the past.

Edit: OK, maybe they're about 50% cheaper, which is not insignificant, but still I would rather pay more to get something that's guaranteed to work properly.

Epson Ecotank genuine inks cost about $17 per colour and last about 6000 pages.

        • What’s a good printer plus scanner that uses these inks?

@TomGum: I have the ET-2750, but that has been superseeded.

Have a look through their current range…

I think the current equivalent is the ET-2850, but that's because I wanted automatic 2-sided printing.

If you use your printer reasonably often, the savings in ink will pay off the printer very quickly.

        • Ive rarely had an epson printer last 600 pages

I'm pretty sure these are the printers where you need to have a HP account to scan…

    • It's very annoying with the HP account. Do you know any trick to bypass this as sometimes i need to scan quickly a document and it starts asking for log in, verifying, loading and blah blah blah

      • +2

Easiest way to bypass it is to return it and get a decent brand.

  • Will this take non genuine carts?

I've had an HP printer do a firmware update and ban non gen. I had to downgrade the firmware. Not sure about this particular model.

  • I have this one. I like that it is compact and does the job. But the cartridge it comes with is like 10% or something and to replace both you end up paying ~$120 and then just as quickly it runs out.

I know it is nothing new but it is infuriating when it'll be cheaper to buy a new printer than new cartridge.

I will wait for a nice, cheap and compact laser…

    • Yeah deskjet printers are expensive to run, the yield of the standard cartridges is something like 50 pages only, works out about $1.5-$2 per page.

  • Price has gone up t $59
