Not sure who’s need so many. Maybe a computer repair shop?

Also 1.92TB is pretty good at under $150
240GB is also a solid price at ~$25

    • +15

14 bux each to replace those optiplex that came with hdd

      • +3

Yeah, but nowadays, even those office fleets has ssd. We're already seeing 8th gen towers getting sold in bulks.

    • 1.92TB or 1.2TB?

      • -4

        1mb = 1080p

        1080p x 1920 byte = 120gb

        1920 x 10 pk = 1.92TB

        • +2

          120GB x 10 is 1200GB

          1024GB to a TB.

          1200GB/1024GB is 1.17TB

          • +1

            @smpantsonfire:

            1024GB to a TB.

            1024GiB to a TiB*

Windows uses GiB/TiB, but labels as GB/TB[1] - storage makers use gB (1000 to the next unit)

[1] Technically not entirely inaccurate because technically having the magnitude letter be capital can be used to signal that it's binary (1024) instead of decimal, but pretty much nobody knows this which makes it misleading (and more likely than not, wasn't even the reason it was formatted like that).

        • +1

          Sarcasm undetected. Sensor failed.

        • +1

          Wouldn't 1080p x 1920 ≈ just barely good resolution? And h265 compressed about 300mb for 30mins? So really only 300mb x 10 = 3000mb or 2.93gb? 🤯🤷🤦🤯

      • +3

I meant the 1.92TB drive they’re also selling is good at $147.50

    • Good for those businesses reselling refurbished office PCs and laptops?

Though they'd have to be pretty old to not already have SSDs these days, right?

      • +9

120GB is getting to be a bit small for many uses these days. $10 more for double the storage. I found that 120GB tends to be a bit small with a Windows 10 setup. Even a basic one.

        • +2

Basically holds the OS. With a little left over for a couple applications.

        • +1

Meanwhile my workplace offers 150MB network storage.

Anything higher requires senior management approval, written justification and a lot of paperwork.

          • +3

@NobalaKoba: Network storage is very different to a boot drive.

            • @whats up skip: Don't worry. Boot drives are 120GB and only accessible via Desktop and Downloads, with the expectation you can change machines and have it not impact work (so storing anything on your Desktop is discouraged)

Documents and Appdata are counted towards the 150MB, and Adobe tools are set up to store in Appdata.

    A 10 pack! That’s hilarious. Man, I love Amazon.

    • +4

they are just matching Costco. Costco also has a family pack of 4 and Extra Value pack of 25

    • I bought amazon 5 pack deal of 128GB patriot microSD, 7 years ago.
Seemed crazy, but when I showed them to friends/family, 4 were gone in a couple of days.

But everyday people don't buy SSD like that.

240/480/960 for $24.95/39.75/75.50 look decent too

    • awesome, was literally about to get a couple of 480 BX500s, might as well save $10

      • Just done exactly that myself. Cheers OP!

  • +1

best cheapest way to 'raid' these into 1 unit?

    • an old server that businesses are mostly just throwing away.

    • +1

Why not just get 2 faster drives?

    • +3

      just get an nvme

      • Many old computers out there that don't have NVME.

        • pcie to nvme cards are cheap

          • +5

@kingmoron: Many PCs can't boot from a PCIE slot. Then of course there are notebooks. Not to mention that the adapter cards or external cases are almost as much as these drives.

    • waste of time/money, chasing epeen

    • 11 USB ports on this HP refurb.

  • LOL at the 10 packs in 240GB and 480s as well.

  • +1

    Raid 0 time

  • +2

Confirmation that the spot Flash NAND price has crashed. The slow down in mobile phone handsets is likely the cause for this.

    • Interesting, that would also apply to SD cards right? Have seen some heavy discounts on Samsung's.

  • Patriot was usually the cheapest memory sticks at msy in the past. I had 2 fail, the only sticks I've ever had fail. The grief wasn't worth the saving. I know these aren't memory sticks but just thought I'd mention.

  • +1

My first SSD was from Patriot, with a whopping 64GB. Still working 11 years later.

    • +1 have used many over the years, I don't recall having a failure yet. Have had Kingston, SanDisk (now taken in by WD) and SP though.

It's a pain dealing with so many SATA SSDs. I have 8x SM863a 1.92TB drives, and it is difficult to put them in a RAID properly. I had to buy 2 additional SATA cards, as my motherboard would run out of bandwidth on the SATA ports while copying data to the RAID. And since SATA cards cost around $50, it would be more worth it just to buy a single larger drive instead if you don't need redundancy.

  • 3 left in stock!

    • Yeah only seeing 480GB 10 packs now :(

  • Price is good but 120GB SSD is too small these days.
May be for a computer shop with many pre-built PCs.

  • +3

bought 6 of the 1.92 TB drives, will run them in my truenas, which is hosted in my proxmox hypervisor.. all over the 10 gig enternet at home, expect the 10 gig ethernet to bottle neck this many SSD, raid'ing them obviously, should give me close to 11 terabytes and be able to copy files to the true nas at close to 1 gig a second real time speed.

    • +1

What do you store on all these ssds?

  • FYI. For anyone wanting to use one of these in their "new" Dell 7060 Micro, be aware they don't quite work. The drives work fine but the mounting holes are a few mm further forward, compared to other drives I have here, so they don't make enough contact with the SATA port when used with the Dell caddy.

Plugged directly into the SATA port they work fine, and are light enough to simply sit there, but I'll likely find something to stop them from moving around. Not ideal but, for the price, I can't really complain.
