Nice time time to jump in if you are on the fence thinking about buying a good mobile gimbal!

Good price for Zhiyun-Tech Smooth Q4, this compares with the DJI Osmo 6 with similar mobile load capacity but has a better rotation/mechanical range.

Next cheapest i could see is from amazon selling for $209. Zhiyun (official) sells the combo pack for $299.

Does anyone here still bother with these? And the ones that do, what phone are you using?

I ditched my old zhiyun gimbal after I got my iPhone 12 Pro (and subsequently upgrade to 14 pro) and found that for the extra stuffing around (set up gimbal, carry it with you, ensure it’s charged) was not worth it as the 12 and 14 had actually quite decent video IS.

I can see a possible use case for dedicated travel vloggers who might do the whole days walk with phone on gimbal, but when I did japan with my 7 plus, gimbal, and GoPro 7 black, the go pro actually got way more use still.

Have moved on to other cameras, such as Insta360 OneX2.

Looking back I must have looked awkward af with a gigantic gimbal with my smartphone clipped into it held in front of me as I walked.

      • Insta360s look great and fill a niche application too and cannot be replicated with normal smart phone , been tempted quite a few times I’ll admit

      • The quality of videos captured from x2/x3 are inferior to the ones captured from recent smartphones with a decent camera. 360 capture is pretty cool, though.

        • True and the difference is noticeable even to the layman. It is a different platform but I end up doing the same things with the 360 as smartphone recording and enjoy them more due to the form factor.

my thoughts exactly, these are surely going to be made redundant very soon

  • Can I use this to hold my Gimbap when I'm eating it.

Android app was buggy as hell and didnt see a single meaningful update in the 4 years I owned a Smooth 3.
