  • Im debating wether to go for desiccant or compressor for WA, not sure what indoor temperature is during winter

  • +3

I got their 35L unit which is $100 less than this deal. Fantastic unit that removes every bit of 35L a day when humidity is high. Does exactly what it says on the tin and does it well.

    • How do you empty the 35KG bucket ? I can't imagine it's easy to carry around your house and pour down the sink 🤔

      • +1

The bucket isn't 35L it's a think it's about 10 litres so you empty it 3 times a day. But it also has a pipe and gear to drain straight in to a drain, sink etc like a washing machine hose.

You will get 35L in a day if your room humidity is in the 95% range and are trying to drop the humidity to 40%. But if your room is only like 60% and you set it to 40% you will only need to empty the bucket twice a day. When the bucket is full it will stop and flash the light so it wont overflow.

        • Ah ok, so it's a daily rating 👍

I thought the 35L was referring to it's water holding capacity 😁

  • If you have say ducted air conditioning, is there any advantage to using this device?

    • Makes no sense to turn on ducted air conditioning to reduce the humidity in the rooms if no one is in the room or at home. Dehumidifiers use a lot less electricity.

      • -1

Dehumidifiers use a lot less electricity.

Well not really - a compressor is a compressor. The only reason the one in your dehumidifier uses less electric is because it's way smaller.
If it uses a sixth of the power but takes 6x as long to dry the room, then the running costs are the same.

To put it another way - 3KW of aircon is 3KW of drying power. 0.5KW of dehumidifier is 0.5KW of drying power. One of those things uses 6x the power and will complete the job in a sixth of the time…

    • I dont have a ducted aircon, but i have a split system in the same room as the 35L version of this dehumidifier. The aircon doesn't remove moisture anywhere as good as the dehumidifier does. And the aircon doesn't have the ability to set the humidity level in the room to a specified humidity level.

This dehumidifier removes 50 litres of water from the room a day, which is a lot. An aircon (at least the 3 split systems i own) will only remove a fraction of that.

  • I bought the 20L one at full price in 2016 and it's still going strong even now.
