Australian Natural/Roasted Macadamia Nuts 800g $19.99 ($24.99/kg) @ ALDI (Special Buys)

900

Was working when i saw these, bought these from another store, so this is not store specific.
Was not able to see these in catelogue.
Good solid chunks of this nut.
But its a pretty good value IMO (even better than the standard natural 400g macadamias by aldi ($14.99). Definitely way better value than other big groceries stores (talking about for this product)
Either way macadamias are one of the most expensive nuts anywhere.
The PLU is 712129 (from receipt) if you need it.

Make sure to pay with savings/EFTPOS or cash to save 0.5% surcharge.

Pard me Empleyado. Still way too expensive and ur right, macadamias are way overpriced for some darn reason.

Some people really like it. Apart from being really expensive it is also one of the only nuts thats so high in fat (and is hence very keto friendly). Personally I'd like to buy it around 10$-20$ a kg but i dont really know the complexities in pricing or sourcing at good price for these.
And pretty certain its just as good (IMO better because of easier returns and ability to buy quickly) as last deal on ozb 2x 500g macadamias for $50.

      • Have never come across macadamias at $10/kg. I'll look out for this thanks for the post 👍

        • +1

I have never seen them at 10$ (or even $20a kg) A kg either man. I was just saying that price would be more affordable and more people would buy it over other nuts in that price range.

        • -1

          Search for macnuthut deals…

        • $10/kg is the best price with shells; you're not gonna find deshelled ones for that price.

My cockatoo loves them, the bastard cant have an addiction to something cheap like peanuts can he… No it has to be macadamias at ~$30 a kilo.

        • +4

My cockatoo loves them, at ~$30 a kilo.

          That's cheap.

          Early bird special?

@jv: Bird puns are pretty hawk-ward, but your sense of humour is im-peck-able.

@LowRange: You didn't think it was fowl ?

              • +2

@jv: At least the joke didn't fly over your head.

    • You know what these cost? They're like 80 cents a nut.

Hey, they got a phone in the john here!

    • they are not that good 10 is overpriced . just buy you on crafted tree will fruit in one year

  • Is that nation wide ?

    • +1

I honestly don't know, but do think that is not region specific.
Should at least be whole of SA IMO.
They had a lot lot of specials for today so IDK may be ran out of room in catelogue (haha just joking) or was not put in there for some specific reason. Cannot really help sorry mate.

      • Just picked up some in Vic Park WA so likely nation wide.

      • +1

Not available here. I'm in Qld.

  • I think the surcharge is 0.5%.

    • Yes you probably right i keep.getting confused with surcharge amount

They should be cheaper as the farmers are only being paid $2.50kg, see the ABC news article below

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2022-12-15/marquis-macadam…

    • They don't have much flavour and they have a weird texture, they really should be that price imo.

    • The ones from the farm price in the weight of shells. And they aren't roasted.

    • +2

Markups on things are exorbitant. I don't have an issue with growers and manufacturers being paid for a solid product, but middle men markups infuriate me.

      • +1

Yea well look at the post today from the farm gate $50 kilo, no middleman there…..

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/753311

Oh and if the grower only get's $2.50 at the farm gate, then having a simple website, with free shipping (Even saying they have to pay $10 a kilo) would mean they could sell direct at say $20 and quadruple their return. But then Looking at farmgate prices shipped, even today the best special is $50 a Kilo (down to $40 odd if you buy 5 Kilos)

So rather than complain they can sell direct cheaper to customer and more for them. That is of course if the $2.50 a kilo is shelled and the ABC is quoting on retail quality product not unshelled rejects etc.

    • +2

Do you have a problem with comprehension? The $2.50 is nut in shell price.

I wonder if the Aldi ones are nut in shell?

It's pointless comparing apples with bananas.

Also was previously $6; $2.50 seems like an aberration.

PS: Have you tried shelling one? There's a lot of effort involved.

      • I wonder if the Aldi ones are nut in shell?

        Course not.

Have you tried shelling one? There's a lot of effort involved.

Not that much (with pretty basic tools); it's comparable to shelling any other nut (walnut, hazelnut, etc).

        • Course not.

The noob was comparing in shell vs no in shell prices. Rhetorical Q.

Not that much (with pretty basic tools); it's comparable to shelling any other nut (walnut, hazelnut, etc).

Added cost. Also broken pieces would be sold for cheaper baking supplies etc.

  • Is it on sale right now? Very good price, I like the natural ones.

    • yes should have been put out yesterday after stores closed

      • Thanks, hope they not run out if I go tomorrow.

        • if I go tomorrow.

is your local open on australia day ?

      • +1

Hey why do the checkout people at Aldi keep getting wise with me? Like I tell them I have 24 cans of beans in my trolley and give them one to scan and they are all like "hey, watch out!" or "impressive!".

        • Well, it’s a boring, tiresome, and unrelenting job — making sure the customers are constantly serviced. So it’s only fair that they take a little time-out to make fun of the apocalypse peppers

  • Look like they are halves for this price is good.

  • Great price, but obviously be aware that these are not as good tasting as some of the better quality brands, tastes a little bit sour? Still a good price though

    • Yes be aware these have likely been processed by the Civet Possums

      ;)

      • +1

Is there a luwak nut trend somewhere???

  • +1 for local nuts

  • Nuts are more or less same. Splitting hair when people talk about health benefits from various nuts. For me, nuts are bird food.

  • try macnuthut my dear nut lovers, buy more save more.

    • +3

MacNutHut has a similar product for $60/kg. Where is the bargain?

      • MacNutHut? Is that a colloquialism for the Apple Store?

        • +1

          Its a euphemism

  • Cool

  • Are they fresh?

    • I can confirm these were swaying in the breeze on the tree only yesterday. Trust Aldi to pull an all-nighter

      • +1

Hard to appreciate the sarcasm here - I'd suggest looking up the definition of smart ass for a more meaningful life.

        • You did ask a ridiculously open-ended question though.

What answer are you expecting? An ALDI rep to check the SKU and then list the information they received from the grower for that batch?

Or opinions from cheapskates online about how "fresh" a macadamia tastes?

          Compared to what?

  • Great price. Thanks

  • Thanks, great price.
