It's probably for new customers only ..

    • Possibly, can't confirm.

      • Terms of the 6 month promo is found on bottom of the page. https://i.imgur.com/ZW8oUcQ.png

        • If you've been on Exetel but disconnected 5 months ago are you considered 'new'?

          • +2

@Sapiens: doubt it. other ISPs usually set it to 12 months away.

          • @Sapiens: I believe your new as long as no active connections on the account

    • Just contact them and ask if you can get this price and say that other providers have similar deals.
      Worked for me last time.
They even agreed to revert to my old discounted price once 6 months is over.

      • +1

These clowns didn't do that last week for me. They asked why I wanted to leave and I replied that at least half a dozen companies were better priced now Exetel had put my price up. The guy still seemed genuinely surprised when I said just cancel. The call ended on a real downer. Ok, bye, he said.

        • Lol sales rep ego seems to have gotten the better of them. A customer is always better than none. I emailed btw.

      • Just rang billing and got 100/20 as well as existing customer, they said 12 month contract, I was like nope, already long time customer. She said hold on talk to manager, and came back yes. Cheeky.

  • Credit checks NVM didn't read description

    • +2

      why shouldn't they?

      • Seems like the entire Ozbargin community is afraid of 100% of credit checks

        • +1

          Yes

        • If you are paying in advance, why hurt a credit file?

      • +1

        Because… they’re not providing credit?

        • one month internet service is credited to you before they bill you for the month

    • I switched to Exetel 5.5 months ago - no credit check on Illion/Experian.
I did a disconnection call in December, went smooth (switching early Feb to somewhere else) - can't tell yet if switching away will be smooth, but can't see why not.

  • +3

With them on this previously, first month ok. Second month, terribly slow. Third month unbearable so cycled out.

    • +1

can confirm was with them and the call center folks told me that the slowness is due to "many" devices connected to the router (~15). Most of the devices are smart bulbs, plugs etc.

    • That sucks. Who are you with now?
I'm thinking of switching from tangerine but not sure who to go with.

      • +1

Have been with spintel for 2 months. Quite good so far.

      • have you tried superloop?

        • Yes, also good. Also am FTTN for any interested.

          • @MR MR: Exetel is owned by Superloop and uses their back end for connectivity.
Any performance issues with Exetel should also be seen with Superloop.

        • I found superloop to be okay. Was with them for 6 months. Tangerine has been pretty bad for me. Fast speed at times but cuts out often.

  • Have been with them for about 7 months now. Slowish speeds in my area. FTTN getting about 15Mbps. Does the job and has been reliable. Having said that, did reach out to them once via email and never heard back.

    • Slowish speeds in my area. FTTN

Have you checked whether you are eligible for FTTP upgrade?

  • Had no issues during service. Cancellation was a PITA though. Asked tons of questions, needed to repeat details over and over, and then the 30 day wait on cancellation meaning it's one extra billing period.

    • Stories like this make me question if the $30 a month saving is worth the switch when the current internet connection is working great.

      • Exetel is the first company I've had an unsatisfactory experience with, but I also was disconnecting a property, not just shifting to someone else. When I've changed between ABB and Superloop it's been seamless. Like, 30 minutes until new connection is active.

        • Given Exetel are owned by Superloo, it's odd that the service level varies.

TBH my experience of Superloop customer service is poor.

    • 30 day wait on cancellation meaning it's one extra billing period.

Strange - they advertise as "No Lock in contract." That sounds an awful lot like lock in.

  • OP, price for the 50/20 is $53.95 for the first 6 months. I have been with them since the beginning of Dec 22 and no problems with speed. 55 down every time I do a speed test.
No issues with help desk. Only thing I can point out is if you have a landline, connection will take a few days longer.

    • Thanks, updated.

    • Only thing I can point out is if you have a landline, connection will take a few days longer.

Never have your landline with your ISP.

Im on 100/40 with these prices at the moment and have been for 3 months.
no complaints so far, constantly getting around 102/39
The times i have had to call support i was surprised at how quickly i got through

    • You must the Lucky person, to deal with support is nightmare for me :(

  • +1

Tangerine nbn are probably cheapest at moment for 6mth deal. I signed up start of January and very happy.

  • Exetel is worst internet provider

    • +1

      Why?

      • -2

Because that's my experience with them.. quality of their internet service, their support service, their odd terms and conditions they are full of crap.. I left them in 2019.. And I'll never ever go back to them even if they start showing up 5 star reviews or something like that on some private website.. Real experience matters more..

        • I left them in 2019..

          • -2

@jv: Shit remains shit no matter how old it's.. why should I try them every year or every two year?

            • @vikaskamboj: Different owners since then.

              • -3

                @jv: But same service mate..

                • @vikaskamboj:

                  But same service

You wouldn't know as you haven't used them since 2019.

                  "I left them in 2019.."

                  • -1

@jv: So you mean I should spend my money every year to check if Dan has become Anthony? That logic sounds absurd to me.. especially when I already had much better experience with other providers.. why would I go back to exetel?

                    • +1

                      @vikaskamboj:

why would I go back to exetel?

I didn't say you should, but at the same time, you have no valid reason to claim that currently, under new ownership, that they are the worst ISP.

    • +1

Are you with them at the moment?
A while back they had a pretty poor rap, but i believe since being purchased by Superloop in 2021 things have changed - ive been quite impressed the past few months ive been with them

      • It doesn't seem to have made a difference to them on Product Review. If you click statistics and look at the average review by month it is still about a 2.

Even on Trustpilot which they favour due to their low ProductReview score and where they ask users for reviews, they only get a 3.9/5.

They do have some interesting features such as - Speedboost - which would make them a compelling choice if there weren't all the reported issues.

Most concerning is that their fans seem to have a "better the devil you know" attitude when it comes to issues.

Sometimes things pretend to change for a while but sooner or later they turn back to their real character.. just a matter of time

  • I’m with Exetel but leaving now, really down to cost and the tangerine deal. If you get through to their retention team they’ll offer a $15 discount a month for 6 months, provided you lock in for 12. The lady did say I could call back after 6 months and ask again, but couldn’t guarantee it so I walked.

Service (HFC) has been very reliable and customer support is pretty good.

    • Still not worth it imo. From now on I’m just switching around every 6 months to maximise my discounts.
I’m with Auspost nbn and being great, but when discount it’s gone I’ll be moving.
Just stupid that Nbn doesn’t just discount for longer it’ll be easier to just stick with one provider if the initial discount was for good.

    • Good decision 👍🏼 Leave even if they discount it for 12 months.. you need service, not alms

  • Just signed up with Dodo, there are several all around the $54 for 50/20, I always check whistleout and resign after 6 month discount period is up
Have used Extel, superloop, Spintel, Tangerine, it’s all auto changeover all the same really as long as they have adequate capacity from NBN
I have about 4 modems lying around, mine and previous owners, MyRepublic was weirdest to set up, no settings like most to change to logon in modem, just needed an older modem…

  • +1

Had excellent speeds since I switched to them, haven’t needed to use support. You also get further discounts if you take up a mobile service with them, I moved the kids mobiles to Exetel and it drops my internet bill another $10, more if you add more services

I’m still in my initial discount period until March will reevaluate then

    • That experience is just for first couple of months.. then life starts becoming hell.. switch over as soon as they put you in less preferred customer category..

    • For someone who doesn't know what a shill is you're certainly talking like one.

  • Exetel was pretty good for me but they need 1 full month notice before switching.

    • +1

Who asks for such silly notices? Is it some job? They are really odd one out.. Happy for you that you are getting good service, surprising to me though

      • +1

If you just tell them it is a contradiction to say you can cancel anytime but then also you gotta give 30 day notice, they will waive it. Did that a month ago, I changed to Origin to get $150 woolies credit and will now likely change back to exetel :P

        • Hi, may I know how do you get the $150 woolies offer from origin? I'm interested in origin as I signed up for their electricity and gas.

I only see their $10 off offer if I bundle with them.

  • I use to be with Superloop on 100/40 FTTC and getting 100-110 mbps down and 38-40 up. Switched to Exetel in November with upgrade to FTTP 250/20 deal. Regretting it now, Internet experience is worser now. Usual download speed is 150mbps with upload around 10mbps and after a "boost" to 500/50 it only get to 250-260mbps down, while keeping the upload below 40mbps that I use to get on FTTC. Tried troubleshooting with Exetel, no luck. Maybe I should try another provider to see if my speed can be improved.

Overall: better than dealing with TPG but not by much.

    • +1

      Did you enable QoS?

    • Not all routers are capable of 500Mbps. What are you using?

      • ASUS rt-ac68u

        • Get Launtel nbn activated on a new port and use their free trial. Your Exetel nbn service won't get cancelled. The next step is to update your RT-AC68U WAN connection type to auto IP and apply the changes. Perform a new speedtest with Launtel.

          • +1

@Twix: Cheers for pointing me towards my router.
I have done a direct PPPoE setup with my PC and got 546 Mbps down and 34 Mbps up.
It looks like my trusty ASUS is not up to the job anymore, for some reason, it can't handle the download speed.
The upload speed is still underwhelming, even with a direct connection on my PC. I should look into some other routers.

            • @Dim Sim: Change your Asus QoS to 550/48. If that doesn't help purchase a router like the Asus RT-AX58U, Asus RT-AX86U, Asus RT-AX86U Pro.

      • +1

If my 13 year old router can do 500 Mbps wired only, any router can.

I should probably recycle it though, it's basically useless.

        • +1

Update. I tried all the different settings on and off but couldn't push it over 260mbps down. I connected an old tp-link archer D7 that I grabbed from my friend(he was sending it to the landfill) and got a full 530mbps down and 42 Mbps up. I am sad that the $400 ASUS didn't age well against the $150 TP-Link.

          • @Dim Sim: You can't just randomly turn things on and off, you need to configure it your FTTP line.

If you had to drive a friend's car, do you just get in and drive off? Or do you adjust the seat and mirrors?

            • @GTR12: not sure what you mean, I was playing with QoS and AIprotect settings etc, to check if any of them may be restricting my download speed.
BTW after connecting ASUS as AP in series to the TP-Link I was able to push 560mbps through the wan port on it. So it must be some sort of software/setting issue or NBN didn't like MAC of my ASUS and kept restricting it to 250, but I doubt this is the case. after reading on forums there a couple of people with similar problems but they all used openwrt software

              • @Dim Sim: nbn are not restricting the Asus speeds. Some guys with the RT-AC68U get around 750Mbps and some struggle to get 300Mbps even after changing settings. A different router solves it as you have found out. When you can upgrade to a new Asus router so you're not limited to using the RT-AC68U as a Wi-Fi AP.

        • Not any router can. Some router CPUs are not up to the task and there are cheap router that still have 100M ports.

    • experience is worser now.

      So is your grammar.

      • +2

what would be the correct word? Worse?
        I am still learning English.

    • Maybe I should try another provider to see if my speed can be improved.

Sounds like a problem with your FTTP connection.

      • +1

I will try to connect my pc directly to the NBN modem and set up PPPoE on the PC to test if it's my router issue.

  • ShopBack has upsized cashback. I believe you get $99 cashback signing up through ShopBack?

    I’m on the 100/20 plan.

No complaints from me. Always on, speeds as advertised.

We hear a lot from people with issues, but FYI I have no issues at all. Very happy customer.

  • I'm with Exetel on the 50 plan and have never had an issue, great speeds and customer service. When my discount ended after the 6 months, they offered me another discount to "keep me as a customer", no request needed.

  • +1

A credit check for a fixed internet connection? What is this boomer nonsense. The service can be instantly disabled and it’s a fixed cost per month for unlimited usage in advance, like a subscription. So why a credit check? Over a petty $60 a month too, what a clown company.

    • Yeah, my credit score went down because of it.

  • Fyi I moved house recently, happy with Exetel and wanted to move my service. This involved disconnecting the original service and setting up a new one, the customer rep was happy to apply the promo price deal to this "new" connection even though I was an existing customer.

Been the most reliable ISP I've used (I've used Telstra, ABB, Superloop in the past), and the speed boost feature is great.

  • i prefer superloop over exetel speed wise. Also annoying you have to setup for pppoe.
