If anyone can find stock, HN has Red Dead Redemption II PS4 version for $5.

Don't fall for it, $29 is incoming… then $15 in the next few months. Halfway through the year, $9.95!

Probably doesn't need to be said, but avoid the Switch version, it runs significantly worse than the others.

    • They need a new switch already…

My baseless prediction is that they'll release a new one with upgraded internals (akin to PS4 pro and XB1X) alongside the new Zelda game. Nintendo knows Zelda games move new hardware, and it wouldn't be the first time they've delayed a Zelda game to align with a hardware release. Switch sales (while still great by most measures) have also finally started to slow down.

        • I doubt it's possible to get PS4 pro level performance in that size factor and be portable to the same level, something has to give. The steam deck is probably not exactly what Nintendo want to replicate somehow I think, and it's got it's own drawbacks

They are definitely overdue for new hardware though

@buckster: Sorry, I meant 'like PS4 Pro' in the sense that it would purely be a spec bump, not an entirely new console 'generation'.

        • I thought that was the plan, but the current rumour is that an upgraded Switch has been cancelled. Probs won’t see a new model till Q1 ‘24

          • @qwertimus: Yep I don't see why they would change things up given recent chip shortages when they could keep churning out the current model(s) that are selling well

    • Thanks, was just about to buy for the switch!

    • I played and finished it on the Switch and found it fine honestly. Doesn't often dip below 30fps at all which is fine. If it's your only option, it's perfectly playable.

      • Is the gameplay itself what you're describing as "perfectly playable" or the technical performance?

        • Both? That's my honest opinion. Running in the overworld was fun moreso than the actual stages, and the performance never hindered that. The game could've been a lot better and by world 3 people will likely get frustrated due to the game deciding it wants lots of 2D stuff to happen in the 3D overworld, but I had enough fun with it that I ended up finishing it on the Switch without issue.

          • @Kritter2069: Really? It was the complete opposite for me. Overworld was boring but timing speedruns to get the s rank was more enjoyable in stages. Some where just too annoying bit in general stages were more enjoyable and truer to sonic games than the overworld was.
Levelling up speed and coins is a torture no person should ever endure.

            • @maverickjohn: I just liked running around in a big open space, though yeah having to level coins and speed was stupid and unnecessary. Some levels were okay but I hated some of the later stages, especially the forced 2D ones.

  • Around $30 worth to buy IMHO

  • Thanks, Sween. Did you pick up one yourself?

    • +1

Nope. My pile of shame is too high.

      • Probably a good thing you didn't. I got about 15hrs into it before quitting. Other comments have said there's just something off about it and I agree. Kept falling off rails and missing jumps, combat became annoying, some boss fights with bizzare design decisions, etc. It's not a bad game just not great.

  • Pc version?

FYI - My son got this for Christmas, he loves Sonic, played the crap out of Sonic Forces/Mania, has lots of Sonic toys. He has barely touched this game, it just doesn't feel like Sonic. Something is off about it. I would probably avoid purchasing it for anything over $20

      "Something is off about it"
      Well said

    • I got it at launch and enjoyed it for a few days. I didn’t get past the first island and have no urge to continue with it.

This game might not be for everyone, but I absolutely loved it! It was a huge surprise as I’m not that much of a Sonic fan, the overworld is fun to run around in, and the stages are extremely well crafted & balanced for difficulty. Seriously, it was the most fun I had in a game last year.
Even if y’all don’t pick up this game (I genuinely recommend it though), check out the OST on streaming or YouTube. The Kellin Quinn tracks (and other featured artist tracks) are awesome, but the whole OST was surprisingly good too!

I finished and platinumed this game (easy plat if interested) but it gets a little repetitive when you reach the 3rd world and you kind of get over it. It has potential but wasnt the sonic game we are waiting for.

  • Will wait till the aldi sale
