A locked i5-12400F with an RTX 4090? What?

    • Nothing is stopping you from removing it once you get it.

      • The B660?

        • I'm assuming he means the cpu.

          • +24

@mu11yy: An unlocked CPU can't be overclocked in a B660 motherboard, so that is stopping him removing it once he gets it

            • +2

              @UNFKNBLVBL: Oh that makes sense.

            • +5

              @UNFKNBLVBL: No It doesn't. You can install a 13900f

            • @UNFKNBLVBL: Curiously, how far does BCLK get you on these modern chips?

Is 105 still a "free 5%" that basically every system can handle?

        • +5

I'm not advocating this is a good deal, but you "can" put an unlocked Alder lake/Raptor lake CPU into the PC, I don't know why you'd bother though the 12400F would be fine for any sensible resolutions you would be buying a 4090 for.

If you're gaming below 4K, you don't need a 4090, and if you're gaming at 4K, you are barely, 'barely', missing out on performance for the majority of titles.

          • +2

@conza: Agree. I think a lot of gamers playing below 4k miss this too often. Yes more CPU is better. No it's not required.

            • +3

              @drprox: Why play anything under 4k with a 4090?????

If you don't have the monitor don't get the card

              • +1

@Bearlion: I think it's less about not having the monitor and more about not having the money to BUY the monitor

                • +1

@PuppieWayne: High refresh 4k monitor when not on sale is $1500, always look at the whole setup, I recall a couple kids years back with a titan card gaming on 24" 1080p 60Hz…

              • -1

@Bearlion: The reason is you're too cheap to buy a 4k monitor

                • @drprox: My point is then you'd be too cheap to buy this system!

    • +1

No difference at 4k in most games.

      Edit: no discernible difference

    • +1

Agreed, at least the parts aren’t garbage though 😉

    • wouldnt matter if ur gaming at 4k

  • +4

Any chance we get another 4070Ti deal or something around the same price/performance? Disappointed I missed the other one

    • +20

Last deal expired due to stock availability.

PM me your requirement and your budget I'll see what I can do.

      • Hi, are the builds from that deal still on track for 7-10 working days from the day of ordering?

The only info I have is that I'll get a status update eventually, but I don't know if that'll be 'build is now in the 7-10 day queue' or 'build started' or straight to 'build ready to pickup'. No issues with that, just naturally excited and keen for as much info as possible :)

  • -1

this PC needed a 7600 CPU non X, which would have been perfect

    • +2

We do have 7600X varant but price is higher due to cost increased on DDR5 platform.

I'll talk to PM to see whether we can combine options in this system.

      Stay tuned

    • +4

      Option updated.

      • -5

        Will you guys have a 7600 non X option? I'd rather have a 65W 7600 than a 7600X at 4k.

      • Could you let me know what CPU fan comes with the AMD upgrade?

        • It will come with an AMD stock cooler.

  • How much for PNY GeForce RTX™ 4090 24GB XLR8 Gaming VERTO™ EPIC-X RGB Overclocked Triple Fan, $2899?

  • -6

Would of thought that the people dropping $4k+ on a PC would be the type to be building their own.

    • +16

Not really. Plenty of people don't have the time, confidence or ability but still wanna enjoy it.

    • +21

yep I assembled my Ferrari myself

      • +9

        Me tooo! …

        lego one..

        • +9

Building a PC is much closer to building a Lego Ferrari than a real Ferrari.

      • Legend!

      • +1

A PC uses off-the-shelf components. Can't compare with building a Ferrari

    • +12

Perhaps the type that used to build their own… but if anything like me, just CBF anymore.

      • +8

Also the other benefit for the $100 or so is lack of BS/Stress incase something doesn't quite work as expected….

Atleast you can blame someone else :)

In retrospect I wish I thought of that sometimes after the odd build had DOA parts over the years.

      • +7

Yeah this is me. I've built heaps of PC's for myself/family/friends/uni people but I just cbf anymore either. I have better things to do with my free time now than pick parts, build, troubleshoot and all that. I'm mostly just thankful companies like this and Techfast etc exist so that we can get prebuilts at good prices with good quality components instead of what Dell and the like classifies as a 'gaming pc'.

    • +1

It's just personal choice. I don't recommend DIY if you don't have the knowledge.

      • -3

Knowledge is free and easy to acquire on the internet. It's the time needed to invest, if your not a diy'er.

        • +1

"Free and easy" - it's entirely personal choice.

My time could be spent researching and learning how to DIY… which many do.

Or, I could choose to spend my time doing other things.

It's personal choice. No right or wrong answers here.

  • +13

Thanks for making TechFast look like crap.

    • +5

      TechFast days are over

  • This is really good value (considering 4090 prices). High quality parts too!!

  • +8

seems BPC is trying to clear the 12400F and B660 stock

  • +3

Seems like a mismatch between the GPU and the rest of the PC components.

    • Yeah it's their marketing practice to try and make the deal look good. No one in their right mind would run that combo.

    • +2

It's pretty common with a lot of "cheap" prebuilts, trying to sell inventory that doesn't sell individually. That said the rest of the system is very good, especially the quality of the power supply which is where companies like techfast always cheap out on.

  • +8

Why? Why is this a thing? You paired a newer and much better CPU with the 4070 Ti deal and it was actually worth getting because the deal was cheaper overall than buying the parts yourself, despite peoples whims on the 4070 Ti. But this build you pair a RTX 4090 with such a garbage CPU? Who does this appeal too? Anyone with money to burn on 4k Gaming and a RTX 4090 is not going to use this CPU.

Why don't you do more bundles with 13th gen intel or ryzen 7000 CPUs and Graphic cards like the 3060 Ti / 3070 or 6600 XT / 6700 XT? Most people here are looking for a good bargain and want to replace their aging 1080p PC with something new and fresh that can maybe do 1440p gaming.

But you haven't been offering anything of the sort lately. I don't know who is in charge of making this builds but they are appealing to the absolute wrong type of consumer with this kind of build.

EDIT: Stock can not be the issue since these CPUs and GPUs i am mentioning are in stock everywhere right now, including your own website.

    • +24

Hey TKGX, just take it easy. That's why we have prepared upgrade options for people with different configure requirements:)

This is an 4090 build. 6750XT/3060Ti G6X PCs will be published soon.

      • -3

Seems a little disingenuous to want the free advertising of a forum but not want to accept criticism?

      • +11

I don’t want to pay more for an upgrade.

Give me the right cpu and gpu pairing from day dot at a bargain price… NOW!

        • +6

Lol. This demand made me laugh. Sounded like Veruka Salt.

    • There are a few CPU/mobo options available

    • +2

Stock can indeed be an issue… The have stock of B660s and 12th gen CPUs that they want to move. This is a mighty tempting way to shift them.

    • +2

Yeah 12400f/R5 5600 and 4090 just doesn't look right. Probably should have do default 13400f and 13600k upgrade option.

      • +1

Anything on the desktop side below 13600K is just rebadged alder lake fyi

        • Should be enough for 4k gaming

          • @Nathan9999: 13400f is 12400f. I don’t understand your reply 🤔. You would need 13600knto not be bottlenecked much

        • Makes me happy with my build that i chose this. I was contemplating cheapening out on 13400f but ended up 13600kf

    • +2

You could just…idk…not buy it, maybe?

    • You don't realise that having these CPUs is enough for a lot of people who do 4k gaming, people like you like care about higher part numbers which is cringe

  • +4

Hmm whats the reason you build sth like this? BTW it is kinda joke that VRAM is more than system RAM.

  • +2

That's a rather fancy shipping box, though I guess the GPU is expensive enough to warrant it. Still, polystyrene is even cheaper and I hear they're doing interesting things with mushrooms…

  • How hard is it to upgrade the 12400F in a couple years time?

This is right at the edge of my budget and the 7600X upgrade stretches it to $4k which I can't justify for my use case.

I'm thinking of just settling with the 12400F and just taking the 5-10% fps hit (I'll only be running at 4k) and upgrading the CPU down the line.

    • +1

      There’s a 13400f upgrade option for $100 more fyi

      • Oh nice. Thanks I missed that!

How far would that go to resolving the CPU bottleneck?

        • +1

Think the 13400f is around 20% faster. Plus 10 core 16 thread vs 6c12t on the 12400F. Should be plenty.

          • +3

@rocket142: Based on our own tests, performance different between the 2 processors is very very minimal, barely noticeable in most gaming senarios , dispite the ”huge“ price difference we rekon :(

            • @BPC Technology: I think for 4K gaming I would agree but should be a bit more difference in 1440p and lower resolution.

              • @rocket142: Thanks for the reply @BPC Technology

Are there any other processor upgrades that you can offer that might make a more meaningful difference?

The 12400F is holding me back but I can't justify the nearly $300 additional for the 7600 upgrade.

        • -1

13400F is a rebadged 12400F. Only 13600 and up are real Raptor Lake

          • @ShrewdBargin: Doesn't the 13400F have extra E-cores? perhaps not that relevant for gaming today but it didn't seem relevant to have six cores when the ryzen was first released, and some people do things other than gaming (although probably don't need that many cores just to have 40 chrome tabs open)

            • @daffyd: This true

            • @daffyd: Games don't utilise the slower cores and are highly unlikely to ever will. It'd be like driving half the way to your destination then walking the other half, might as well drive the whole way. They're much better suited for productivity tasks.

If ecores ever become relevant to gaming, this cpu would be far too dated to utilise it. Funny you mention early 6 core ryzen because 1600x is an anemic cpu at this point in terms of performance.

    • It's not hard to do if you're experienced, otherwise it might be a bit nerve-wracking. Could always get a local computer shop to do it for you

  • How much to upgrade to an Asus 4090 once available?

    • We will work out once we get confirmed ETA and cost:)

  • What model would the ATX 3.0 PSU be if I want to upgrade that?

  • Just curious - if you upgrade the CPU to AMD 7600x you get a MB and 16GB of 4800mhz ram. So if i do ram upgrade i get double that (32gb) for +119?

    • Unfortunately no.

For AMD Platform, we strongly recommend you choose your own D5 RAM and add into the cart when check out. We will calculate and refund price difference for the 16GB D5:)

  • -2

Hard to find a system at this price point with 4090 and Uppdog support

  • If we can get B660 Mortar Max to unlock non K overclocking, it should minmize the bottleneck from 12400f. @BPC Technology

  • BUY a VGA and GET ENTIRE PC FOR FREE

    • How?

      • describing this deal

        • PNY 4090 is around $2899, so you still pay $789 for the rest. Bit of a stretch to describe that amount ‘free’. Unless i am missing something?

  • Have an upvote for utilising "essential" and "rtx 4090" both in the PC name

  • Is this like putting 91 octane in a Ferrari?
