I thought the Xbox controller was great until i got one of these. I rate it highly. Good price as well!

    • +6

Can you elaborate on why you find this better than the Xbox controller, I'm very interested.

      • -4

Xbox controller it's junk, I've sent mine back to Microsoft 3x till now for warranty.

      • +1

QC isn't great on xbox controllers imo. Build quality of 8bitdo products are very good. Feel almost like first party products.

        • +2

So the quality control on the first party products isn't great, and these are almost as good as those not great products?

          • @MagnamoniousRex: Yeah, I didn't word that well enough. The finish and feel of the 8bitdo controllers is really good and a step above the other cheapo third party controllers. The d-pad feels is very comparable to nintendo's best offerings.

    • Interesting that the Xbox one doesn't have gyro. Or at least they don't specify it. They do for the Switch one.

      Which one do you have?

    • Do you mean the elite controller or the normal one? Because the normal one’s build quality does feel cheap

  • +1

Does it work with Xbox or Ps5?

Why would you get this over an xbox controller?

    • +7

PC and Switch only. Reason to get it for those platforms is hall effect sticks which means no stick drift. 8bitdo make quality stuff.

If playing on Xbox or PS5 stick to the first party controllers.

      • good for Android and Apple?

        • I have paired it with my iPad and works for a game that support joystick, but mine is 8bitdo Pro 2

      • They have for Xbox as well but it's wired

    • Yes it does with this

Keen for thoughts on button quality on the ultimate vs the 8bitdo pro 2 for those that own both

    • +1

Both are good. The ultimate buttons are domed.

I've had random disconnects when playing Halo on the ultimate though haven't played it with the pro 2.

The dock is really nice. Automatically connects/disconnects when removed.

This is the non-bluetooth version. Apparently the bluetooth is better.

      • Fair enough. Didn't notice that

      • +3

The 2.4ghz version doesn't have the Hall effect sticks
So its a far worse deal.

        • +2

Yeah very lame having the same name on an inferior product

          • +2

@Merlict: Not to mention that Bluetooth also works on the ~2.4GHz spectrum.. My brain got a little twitchy reading some of these.

  • +1

Will this work on the Shield or fire tv with retroarch?

  • Hall Effect joysticks in the Ultimate Bluetooth version

    • Hall effect ?

      • +2

They won't drift or fail after a few years.

  • Just bought a bluetooth 8bitdo pro 2 wireless controller for my Batocera setup. Would this be an upgrade? As i need a 2nd controller

    • yes, these are better than the pro 2 (those are pretty good though), this one in particular has hall sticks which means no drifting

    • This guy does a comparison on both: https://youtu.be/CuauyVMeR4M .
I kinda like the pro two features better.

  • have been wanting to pick up one of these, seems like a good enough deal, thanks!

Not Hall Effect sticks. Also I found this uncomfortable to use as sides of controller is straight not angled - puts more strain on wrists. I ordered the Gullikit King Kong 2 - better ergonomics but it does not have a charging dock and does not have any underside buttons (if that's your thing).

Controller is Bluetooth and works well on Mobile and PC - I don't have a Nintendo Switch so can't comment on the performance on this platform

    • +1

What do you mean not hall effect sticks? Isnt that one of the main features of the bluetooth version?

Are you saying they are not really hall effect sticks? (First I have heard that the bluetooth versions doesnt have them…I know the non-bluetooth doesnt havent them)

  • You need the Bluetooth version if you want to use it for Switch.

Annoyed I bought this last week for $20 more… should have been a bit more patient, oh well.

    • At least you didn't have to wait 1-2 months for it to arrive.

      • +1

Oh no, that was on Aliexpress - I'm still waiting ;-)

  • +1

Don't forget cashback. Shopback says it's an affiliate product eligible for cashback

  • Its not bad, bought one (this bluetooth version, for the switch) during the previous/launch special.

Some weird quirks when trying to wake the Switch from sleep (have to shake the controller, works sometimes). Or getting Steam, in Big Picture mode, to register the inputs AFTER exiting a game (again, have to shake the controller?).

I like the feel of it, and happy with it at this price, but FYI there are quirks….

  • Core Electronics has them listed for $68.95 but says out of stock. Not sure if or when they will come back or at that price, but it may be worth waiting considering Aliexpress delivery saying more than 1 month.

  • I already have 2x 8bitdo controllers I'm not using, an SN30 Pro and a NES30 Pro, wonder if I should get this one as well for the collection

    • You sound like me. I have an N30 Pro and a SF30 Pro on my desk that I basically never use, they've just been too fiddly. Have 2 Pro controllers for the switch and 2 Xbox controllers for PC.

  • +1

For some reason I cannot use the code WinterC5 to get my $5 off, it's forcibly using another code that I can't unselect but it's bringing my order down to $78.59, then $87.03 after tax

    • Have you used it previously?
Pay in USD with a card that doesn't have foreign transaction fees. Aliexpress exchange rates are trash

  • I got mine last deal and works great with the switch. Only odd thing is that I have to shake my control to wake the switch up when docked. Took about 2 weeks to deliver.

  • I saw this and felt like posting the Gulikit one as well (since they also make the joysticks for this, and the price seem relatively low in comparison to Amazon and AU retail), but it sounds like they have some issues with input latency and other things sadly. (Even though they have some nice things like less mush triggers and Amiibo).

That and no dock or dongle included…

However the ergonomics are basically an xbox controller clone, despite not really working on an xbox.

  • Hi OP might want to clarify the Amazon price is in USD

    • price is already in title

Cheaper with this seller even without using the WinterC5 code, this seller also has way better reputation.

  • Thanks OP! Picked one up to go with my impulsive OLED switch buy :)

  • +1

How does this compare to the GuliKit KingKong 2 Pro Controller ?
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003624801819.html

    • +2

I have that one too, its decent, but mine has a bit of a rub or something on the left analogue stick so if you do a full rotation you kind of notice it… the 8bitdo i just received feels perfect… i may have just gotten a dud GuliKit but both are definitely quality controllers for the most part

i quite like the addition of the dock with this 8bitdo

  • +1

recieved my order today :) very quick!
