  • Which one is better, this one or irwin?

  • +1

I probably have too many Vice Grips… :/

    • +11

Time to move on to vise grips then.

      • Great idea lol

  • Bought the three-piece set on BF, and they're surprisingly good for the discounted price

  • +1

Oh hey, Vise Grips. Or, the NZ equivalent.

I like crescent tools, they've not let me down yet.

    • -1

I like Strawberry and Ice-cream…not good for my weight loss program though

  • +1

I have this. Its been a good set. They oil the pliers too so you gotta wipe them down a bit when you first get them.

  • Do these work as "normal" pliers, or do they lock in place every time you actuate them (needing to be released each time)?

    • the latter.

    • +1

They work as normal piers up to the point where the lock kicks in. As an example you could grab a 14mm nut without the lock feature but a 12mm nut would probably lock on at the same relaxed jaw width/setting.
I dont have the exact range between lock and no lock but the principle is valid

    • +1

You can over-tighten the locking mechanism so they will not lock. Isn't ideal because handles are then quite open but it makes them work almost as normal pliers.

  • Already have Knipex set, do I still need these?

    • +6

Depends on if you're an Average OZbargainer or Above Average OZbargainer.

    • My recent long nose Knipex pliers were actually horrific quality. Had to send them back to Amazon. Probably sacrilegious to say on Ozbargain, but so many German made products are no where near like the they used to be and no better than average cheap DIY Bunnings products.

      • Are you sure you didn't get fakes?

Knipex pliers on par with craftright?

        • Hard to believe right? But yes, shipped and sold by Amazon. Even some of their other tools are not on par as they were 10 years ago. Having said, many of their tools are still good - just not all.

          • +2

@Charity: Shipped and sold by amazon definitely does not guarantee they aren't fake.

Amazon unfortunately has a bit on an issue with fakes due to how their inventory management and marketplace system works. Stock from both 3rd party sellers and "shipped and sold by amazon" that have the same manufacturer barcodes get commingled in the warehouse, meaning fake products can and do get mixed in with authentic products

        • Tell me you're not disappointed with the long noses if you do buy them

  • its says free delvery on their page but when i try to confirm the the payment they charge 10.00

    • +4

Total tools is usually free delivery over $99, I would assume it says free delivery still because of the previous price of $136.

    Buy now and regret later
    or
    Don't buy and regret later?

Decided on the former just in case I have a use for it one day.

  • +1

actually has been looking for a set since my old set has done the walkabout .. cheers OP

  • +1

Are these not commonly known as vise grips any more?

    • +1

They do the same job as Vice Grips, but 'Vise Grip' is a trademarked brand.

If you call it locking pliers, most people will look at you funny.

It's the same as Caesarstone. I'm sure 99% of people who own reconstituted stone benchtops that are not Caesarstone brand still refer it to it as Caesarstone.

      • I call it engineered stone.

        • same same

    • The actual Vise Grips are far better quality

  • Awesome set

  • Do they have a carry pouch or something similar?

    • No. It is sealed in plastic without any bag/pouch.

  • I have these…no pouch but I carry these in Woolies reusable bag. It's only 15c
