Australia Post Car Insurance: 15% Cashback @ Cashrewards

310

Came across this cashback offer from cashrewards while looking for a cheaper insurance policy. Stacks with the $100 off first year offer that ends on the 16th of January.

Works out roughly to be $130 cashback for a $1000 insurance premium (after GST and other fees).

Australia Post Insurance is underwritten by QBE Insurance. Although their policy ended up being the cheapest for my car, please compare with other insurance provider's policies as the premium varies for each individual.

Wasnt this posted before that even with discount its still the more expensive insurance. All gimmicks tricks.

    • +7

That's a very generalised statement. It will be cheaper for some, more expensive for others. Always shop around.

    • Just renewed my car insurance last month, with cashback this would have been cheaper

    • This deal was the cheapest for me

Insurance, something you buy, but hope not to use.

    • +5

and when you need it the most, they'll do their best to weasel out of it

      • +1

Yep and AusPost is QBE, and they're ok, better then Coles, AAMI but worse then Budget Direct, RACQ.

  • +5

I signed up with Aus Post last year and selected an agreed value for my car.
Went through their online quote for a new quote, and see they've removed that option.. will only do market value. Noticed some others have done this also. Kind of annoying considering how low their 'market value' is compared to the actual market value of used cars.

    tldr; (profanity).

    • +7

Well Market Value is negotiable. Red Book is the usual place they get values, but we've previously argued (successfully) that CarSales is the place where you get market value from, since it's an actual market. Like any car dealer, insurance will always lowball you. But if you have the time & patience, just keep hassling and keep notes of conversations (I always insist on email conversations for negotiations so there's no ambiguity).

Insurance industry motto: Delay, delay and hope they go away.
mine: It's best, it's best to be a pest, for you will get your way.

it is not good as it was before. $100-$150 cashback..

  • +1

    My quote was ridiculous.
The only option for my car was Third Party. No comprehensive and no fire & theft add-on.

The premium for TP only was higher than my comprehensive with highest agreed value quote that I'll buy on Friday from a diff insurer.

I wonder who thought Australia Post was a brand name worth sticking onto an insurance product…

    • Massively overpaid AP management did. Cashing in on their trusted (by some) brand. There must be good profit in it.

  • Still $100+ more expensive than my RACV insurance (before cashback but after $100 first year discount). Not worth the hassle and the poorer service.

    • RACV was 50% more expensive for me even after 10% multi policy discount

      • Racv was more expensive for me also, multi discount plus a discount based on years with them.

  • Does this apply to CTP? Pretty devo as I just purchased directly through QBE last week.

    • Damn never knew they did CTP. Is this recent? Didn't come up in the government comparison site when I did mine last October.

      • Must be, AusPost still doesn't come up and certainly didn't when I used this for comparison last week. Gamechanger if the cashback works!

    • +1

I don't see why it wouldn't. Just keep in mind the $100 off offer doesn't apply to CTP. Also QBE has a 3 week cooling off period so you can cancel and repurchase :)

      • Just I rang QBE as their website says I can't cancel a CTP. They told me there's no cooling off since it gets sent to ServiceNSW instantly, though can be cancelled only if the vehicle has not been registered using it but instead another CTP policy.

Luckily, I haven't paid the rego so I'm going to be the guinea pig - purchase another CTP through AusPost and register the car using it, then call QBE back for a refund for the one I purchased last week. Wish me luck the cashback tracks and gets approved.

  • Those reviews! I've been with QBE for 4 years and did notice a significant drop-off in service when I claimed for hail damage last year. Didn't know they'd moved their call centre OS. Long story but fortunately I now have the local rep's contact details.

Get an insurance with fully loaded pack (No excess windscreen damange, Choice of repairer, Hire car) etc with minimum excess to get more cashback from Cashrewards. Later give a call to Auspost and modify the policy to get the difference refunded!

    • Does this really work?

      • +1

Yes, it did work for me.

        • thanks! Ill max the insured market value as well and change that after.

  • Is the cash rewards discount in addition to AusPost $100 off?

    • +1

      yes
the deal used to be better though - $100 cashback not 15%

  • It's now 10% cashback

    • Partner came home and cost me 5% 😂

  • +1

I signed up in September last year, after shopping around AP insurance was significantly cheaper for me. The extra cashback was a nice bonus. It hit my account relatively quickly too.

  • +1

how long does tracking usually take for this?

    • For me, it took a few hours for the tracking email to come in.

      • +1

got the policy at 11.30ish today, thought last time it was fairly quick but got nothing yet.

        • Yeah same as you, still nothing.

          • @shap08: bleh. still not tracked.
            not looking good.

            • @bohn: Same, I did another order via the app, I'll call and cancel the first one Monday.

              • @shap08: yeah maybe I will do that.
did the other one track straight away?

                • @bohn: Yup 5-10mins. I didn't want to risk the deal running out.

                • @bohn: Get it sorted?

                  • +1

@shap08: Yep, cancelled my old one

  • It was 10% 2 days ago, I just got a new policy. Cheers OP

  • Even with ALL the discounts on my V6L Accord, it's 2x Woolies. :|

  • Thanks.. The 15% CB is back now… and it was the best price as well.. So win/win..

  • Anyone else received cashback tracked yet? Started a policy on 17/1 and nothing yet.

    • Mine didn't track.
Did a second policy, tracked in 5 mins. Cancelled the first

      • Any fees on the cancellation? ProductReview says $40 cancel fee?

        • There is a cooling off period.

  • Just FYI for those who didn't get tracking. Lodge a claim. It will be dealt with.
