Free Monthly Children's Books (Suitable for Age up to 5) Delivered to Select Areas @ Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

260

For families who have a child born on & after 1 January 2022 and live in one of the participating council areas.

Not sure if this has been posted or when it started (please delete if this isn't allowed), but it looks like Dolly's Imagination Library is available in Australia for certain councils. NSW has a list of LGAs that do it but I haven't found a similar link for other states.

The deal's link takes you to a page where you can check whether the program is available in your area.

From the page:
How It Works
Each month, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails a high-quality, age-appropriate book to all registered children, addressed to them, at no cost to the child’s family. Countless parents have shared how excited their child is when their new book arrives each month. Many groups and individuals work hard behind the scenes to make that special moment possible for each child.

The Imagination Library provides the infrastructure of the core program including managing the secure central database for the Book Order System and coordinating book selections and wholesale purchasing. It also incurs the cost of the program’s administrative expenses and coordinates the monthly mailings.

  • Great deal, if you can get it. My suburb in Brisbane was ineligible.

    • What if you have metaverse baby on jan 2023?
      Does that count?

      • Your local council is probably not on metaverse yet

  • +1

NSW areas look good. All seem to be non-metro: either rural or semi-rural

  • +10

None of the 15 houses I own in Melbourne are eligible. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

It looks like a list of "LGA s of concern" for literacy. So missing out means you win.

    • You're going to make us all cry!

  • We’ve had this for a few months and it’s so good, my partner partially selected where we’re moving next based on this still being available there lol.

I was going to offer anyone who couldn’t get it to share my postal address, but Dolly might just cancel both our memberships lol.

  • In SA it looks like the lower socioeconomic areas which makes sense.

Try this link then zoom in on your state should give the results

  • Dolly doesn't pay for this. Seems like it's funded by rotary and other local groups and donors but she gets the credit. There are pages about signing up to run the program in your local area and estimated costings based on population, though the estimator only covers US states. I picked a town in Colorado and it estimated about $US850 to run it for the first year.

    • Dolly doesn't pay for this

As long as she doesn’t receive royalties from it, then it’s not an issue, really.

  • I have volunteered with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and can confirm that it is a legitimate charity providing books to increase literacy rates in disadvantaged communities. :)
