the ketchup and mustard plugs is the problem now days

    • +7

You wish it was ketchup, it's mustard and Mayo!

  • +6

    Single player, right?

    • Yep

    • +1

So buy two for two players? 🤔

      • +2

Nope. They are controller/console hybrids that have their own battery compartment (3x AA) and AV (Red, White, Yellow) connections.

    • +16

      Yeah, wrong game.

      • +17

        It's me, Mario?

          Hi

Hi cousin, do you want to go bowling?

      • +2

        Yeah, wrong game.

        Fatality!

        • FDF+HP FTW

Are those RCA ports? Do TV's still have those?

    • +1

You may need an AVI to HDMI Converter
      Here's an example: see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fk4832Fn0s

      • +1

I got an AV to HDMI convertor, but my Sony TV does better job when I use its AV connectors than the HDMI converter.

    • +4

Some Samsung TV's have the 3.5 to RCA ports(need adapter for this)

  • It has analogue output = SD video

    • +7

As it should be since the game is 30 years old

  • +2

The controls look cheap… I mean no surprise

    • +8

I have one and can confirm these are absolute rubbish. Only played once and never touched again.

    • +2

      Thanks for the link.

The review was a great thorough write up.

So it's not the real arcade Rom but the 16bit mega drive edition and it's really slow.

      Might give it a miss

      • Yeah, special champion edition is the Mega Drive version.

    • diagonal fix pretty much mandatory…. it's unplayable otherwise. May have sold better if playable.

    • Oh wow very bad…

  • +4

IMHO there's little enjoyment in this game unless you are playing against a mate (which is impossible with only one controller), preferably with beer involved.

    • To unlock a new character drunken master?

      • Down 8 beers before you turn it on to play?

  • Might get one just for the box. Been slowly building a stick when I can find good deals and this seems like a decent enough bit of plastic

    • +1

I highly doubt you would want to use this for a DIY stick. You could pretty much grab any decently sized box and it would be a better choice than buying this.
It is way too small and cramped to be an enjoyable experience if using this.

      • Yeah after looking at more pictures it's definitely way too small

  • I have original Street Fighters 2 cartridge for SNES. Would this controller be better than the SNES controller?

    • +2

Apparently not, another comment linked to a bad review

      • thanks, I was wondering about the arcades type controller in this.

  • Give it a few days and I reckon this will be marked down further.

    • +1

Exactly, when it is $5 I should give it a try to relive my childhood memory, used to cost a fortune to play at an arcade in shop decades ago. Btw, username checks out

  • ordered one to check it out..

  • Thanks op. Bought 1 of each.

  • +2

    Gar bage

  • +3

That joystick looks dreadful, those buttons look awful, that A/V is outdated. I wouldn't want it if it was free.

  • +2

I saw them and mega man on clearance …. For $2 I’d bite otherwise shit quality even for $5 lol

  • +3

    More e-waste

    • +1

Indeed. I'm resisting this sort of junk going forward. Play once, store away for months and then throw it… No more!

    • Ozb e-waste marketing at it best. Novelty will wear off within first 1hr?

  • Wonder if this supports Guile's invisible throw like the true OG version?

    • +3

Na I think it's just like the crappy Sega megadrive version or something

    • +2

Can confirm nope. It's not even the OG SFII, it's actually Championship Edition. (False advertising really with the SFII logo being yellow and red)

Will probably return as it also needs 4xAA batteries to power the unit.

Probably would have kept it if it had even an AC power option.

      • +1

Pretty easy to wire in a power socket to the battery contacts if you really wanted that, shouldn't let it stop you.

I'm wondering if it's worth getting one of these to use at the guts of a dedicated SF2 Arcade, but I don't know what it's actually running, or if it's able to be used as two player if you add a second stick and buttons, or if it's hackable to load different games. For $10 bucks I could always afford to find out I guess

  • this year i haven't seen these at 2 kmarts in victoria (werribee + wyndham vale) - not that i'd want one of these but i was wondering why kmart hasn't got retro games stuff this xmas (last year they had the legends flashback console and i think the kmart ghost light).. maybe just our local kmarts not stocking them or i weirdly missed them

    • +1

Probably got stolen off the shelves.

  • +3

they couldn't make this with HDMI in this day and age ?

    • +3

Someone may want to hook it up to a CRT TV for enhanced retro experience. :D

      • +2

I wouldn't waste a CRT on this junk!

  • +1

I wonder if the joystick would come off the first time you do a Shoryuken.

  • +1

Some sort of video review of this on Youtube. Looks like it's made really cheaply.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fk4832Fn0s

  • Don’t buy yet wait a bit longer they go down to $5

    • saw them for $5 at Glendale today

      • Wow that fast now that’s a good price

  • Ah nothing beats Guile's invisible throw. If you know..you know :)

    • slap, upside down kick, sonic boom

  • +1

As others have said I wouldn't recommend buying these as they seem poorly made and only have composite output. But just thought I'd note some Kmarts have them (or at least the Megaman ones) for $6.

  • Champion edition? Is this an arcade ROM?

    • +1

According to a review linked above, it's a modified Mega Drive ROM.

      • Why they would use this crap version and not the arcade is beyond me, they are paying for the license, did they get a discount for using this version? The only reason might be its a bit smaller and will run on (about 5c) cheaper hardware

  • Being that I have a spare stick, PCB and buttons… this would be an OK shell for a DIY arcade stick, right? Just need to dremel some spots here and there?

    • Yep afaik…

    • I would say no, you want something a bit heavier than this with a bit more room. Just make a box out of mdf.

  • Hadoooken!

  • People cant even connect these to their tvs these days…

  • Scanned $15 at Robina, 7 left. Needs 4 aa batteries.

  • I wonder if this can be hacked ….

    • some of the plug and plays can be hacked eg, new roms uploaded

  • +1

$2 now at Kmary Broadway, still a few left

    • All gone by before lunch time today, honestly there are some scab leeches on this site, the lady told me one guy was harassing her to find him stock at other kmart stores, but he doesn't even bother to post here to say they are gone and save everyone else the time

  • +2

This is released 20 years too late.

  • Just off topic question. How do you guys play street fighters? I mean which platform if you play? Thanks

    • The arcade centre platform.

You walk in, chose the left or right side, wait for another player to join. Or sometimes the linked machines are setup back to back, and you get a surprise when you hear that tone as another player has joined from the other side.

      • +1

For some of us the hard part is finding an arcade let alone one that still has a Street Fighter 2 machine.

God I miss the 90s and early 2000s.

  • +1

    OK, summary of this device:

    • uses 4x AA batteries
    • mustard and mayo A/V connectors… no HDMI. Don't be surprised if you get eye cancer
    • based off the Sega Mega Drive's Special Championship Edition (has all the settings and game speed selection options removed so it plays slow)… but it's got the 4 boss characters playable
    • diagonals on the stick has issues. Fix in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fk4832Fn0s
  • +1

Since people mentioned Diy: The "ozbargain" special… Arcade stick made with what looks like anko laptop stand.

    • If it wasn't for the exposed bottom, this would've been an excellent stick.

  • Scanned at $15 in-store hmm..

    • Some stores will manually override the nation-wide price by sticking an orange barcode (with the new lower price) over the original.

It's something to keep an eye out for the next few days.
