I would say most WFH jobs that are ‘easy’ are specialist roles where you’re talented enough to do all the work with time spare in an 8 hour day. Any admin role that is completely WFH would be good but you’d be competing against a massive pool of applicants because everyone is looking for an entry level WFH job.

    • +1

Yep this is what I mentioned to my wife earlier. I consider my job easy wfh but then I've done it for 15 years so it's easy for me!

He can't even influence himself to figure out what he wants to do.

      • Me too. :(

  • Medical / legal transcription.

Doctors and lawyers make audio recordings of meetings / discussions / consultations which have to be typed into written form for archiving etc.

Need good typing skills (but anyone can learn to touch type) and good English skills.

    • +6

Google transcribe is making this a job of the past

      • +2

Not just that, the new vocal recording standalone devices are doing it already. Philips make one, for example.

        • +1

Hell, the Google Keep app on Android will automatically transcribe any voice notes. Doesn't nail it every time, but does a pretty good job.

      • I only mentioned it because I know people who actually do it, and have plenty of work.

The lower-value stuff can be outsourced to Philippines/India and/or Google, but there seems to be enough high-value work (esp legal) for the time being, though presumably that will eventually be eaten away.

        • +3

There are laws about sending personal or sensitive data overseas which means that a lot of the transcription must be done locally. As a result, this job isn't going anywhere.

I think the same applies to automatic services, the server must be located in Australia so if Google can't guarantee that, those services can't be used.

          • @samyall: Microsoft already has servers in Australia for just that reason.

Nevertheless I think the career will still exist, you can quality control the automatic transcript. Won't pay much though

AAMI insurance … mates missus does it and does well $$$ wise.

"Hello welcome to AAMI insurance. It seems you sold eggs at your front gate so the claim for your house burning down in an unrelated matter has been denied"

"One question is whether a business is operated at the insured address, and if there is and you fail to disclose then it will void your policy," a spokesman said.

I believe their egg business also had an ABN

        • +1

Who cares. If they had the bit of paper would they be doing anything else differently that would not void their policy?

        • +3

Holy crap. They really do try to use any excuse to get out it

      • +3

Wtf and I thought they were bad when they left my husband, my 2 year old and me on the side of the road waiting for roadside assistance for 4 hours on a 2 degree day in the middle of town. It was just a flat car battery.

They kept saying it will be another half hour.. turns out no one bothered to reach out to the mechanic to come and help at all.. my husband ended up asking some random person for a ride to super cheap to buy a new battery and tools to fix it himself.

Lucky we live in a nice area and someone was more than willing to help out.

          Hi Karen 🙂

          • +1

@Windows7forever: How TF does that make someone a Karen?

Oh no, I’m so horrible because I expected the staff to do their job and place a call to a local mechanic?

Or is it because I paid a premium for a service and actually expected to be able to use the service when I needed it?

Oh how unreasonable of me? Lol.

            • +1

@sheebies: I expect they make that comment to 50 people a day thinking he is clever. But really it is some kind of compulsive disorder.

  • +6

I assume you also want well paying and no education needed?

Pretty clever thing to ask for. Hope you find something and make lots of money with very little effort. You could be on to something here.

It's rare you're going to find the cushy job you're looking for.

Choose which one you can tolerate the most. This will dictate your direction:

    1. A job that is easy
    2. Job you don't need qualifications for
    3. Job that pays well

You won't find a job that is all 3, especially working from home. Choose which is most important to you and go from there.

Investor. Looking through OzB comments from November last year, you just need to buy TSLA and BTC and wait for the money to roll in. You can't fail because reasons, and you just can't, just because.

    • +1

what about high yield investment vehicles like a beemer?

    • Investing - if you can make the right calls - is not a terrible idea.

However - since you're talking about marginal returns, to make a living wage via short-term investments, you need to be investing a sizable amount of money and/or investing in quite volatile stocks (probably both tbh); which means you need to be quite willing (and preferably, able) to take a sizable loss; which means you're probably in a demographic which wouldn't be gracing these forums.

To make $1k on an investment which returns 10% (which in itself is wild), you need to be investing $20k - not many people would be willing to "bet" this amount of money, which realistically is what you are doing.

      • +1

People love to do this with other peoples money though.

    White collar public service job.

Not easy but I work in a data processing role for a major bank (i.e paper pushing monkey).

The pay is mediocre ~65k but fully WFH and maybe in the office once a blue moon for additional training. The job requires you to hit daily KPIs which are pretty generous as they are timed and standardised across all processors. If you're anything like me / decently computer literate you'd get half or quarter of the day doing nothing.

Apply directly or through recruitment agencies.

    • +3

fk me i get 65k for web dev / support… and i have to go into the office 3-4 days

      • 65k for web dev? what tech do you even use?

      • +3

Are you working for a small business? Ain't no way a web dev should be getting 65k, even entry level are higher than that.

    • That sounds interesting, I could probably do it as a 2nd job if you can really do the daily KPI in half a day

    • Interesting, if I were to search for a role like this would it come under data entry or something similar?

      Dole!

      • If you've ever been on the dole you will know this is simply untrue. Disability pension, then yes it's possible.

  • I think my professional WFH job is pretty easy, but it's in an area I have over 10 years experience in so there's not many problems that come up that I haven't seen before.

It sounds like OP is more looking for a job that pays well with little effort though, and with no prior specialist experience in a certain area I'm sure if such a job exists.

  • +1

How about being a student enrolment advisor for TAFE or Uni? Its WFH.

    • how's the pay.for such roles?

      • If its sales then it differs a lot but if its customer service for student queries then say about 25-35 dollars per hour.

No idea how you made 88k last year if your're now looking for a cushy as job

As with many things in life,
If the jobs easy to get, and easy to do, its likely going to be a low wage.

Okay, I’ll bite, though as others have said it would be helpful to know a bit more about you. None of these are ‘easy’ ie if you want to make money you generally need to put in effort. Most require you to develop a skill of some sort.

    • transcription (be wary of sham contracting in this industry through, many have bee caught out with horrible tax consequences).
    • copy writing (as per above with checking your employment status appropriate and if you’re a contractor you’ll need relevant ABN and insurances)
    • drafting AutoCad etc (can be self taught but also TAFE courses available)
    • content creation (everyone is trying to do this with various levels of success- you’d need to learn about marketing your content building your subscriber base etc.)
    • online tutoring (you’ll need to be knowledgeable enough to teach the subject area and ideally having some knowledge of teaching).
    • learn to bake and decorate beautiful cakes/cookies etc and do custom orders. You’ll need food safety certificate and will have to set up your kitchen to be certified as per your local council requirements (often hard to do as your generally have to have two sinks in the kitchen, one for hand washing)
    • grow some sort of niche produce for local restaurants, micro greens, specialty mushrooms. Again you’ll need to learn all the food hygiene requirements relevant to what you’re growing.
    • laundry and ironing eg work for a company like this https://thelaundrylady.com.au/join-the-team/ or establish your own local business advertised through schools, sports club, on facebook community groups etc. just have gear (good iron) and know what you’re doing with different fabrics so you don’t ruin people’s clothes.
    • open a family daycare (need to be working towards CertIII, there are environmental requirements and you might want to know a little bit about looking after kids) - this is definitely not ‘easy’ but is WFH

If you are good at research and writing, then freelance content/copy writing. More and more businesses are looking for this kind of service as it is important for SEO and customer engagement. But you will grow to hate working on a screen all the time, it's not good for mental or physical health. You need to find a balance. For me I like 50/50 online and outdoor work which I can do as it suits me. Free time + autonomy is far more important to me than more $ and the stress that comes with it.

    • Good point regarding the excessive screen time. It really drains you after a while.

      • I have to third this. Went from working 10+ yrs in hospitality to now working on a computer all day and I'm just about ready to change up again after 4yrs.
Never thought I would get sick of working with computers as I've always been obsessed with anything tech related but it's a bit of a brain drain now that I'm basically able to do my job with my eyes closed.

    • But then what about all those software engineers, developers, basically all IT people? They spend all their time with a screen,l

Have a look into match betting. It's not a job but is fairly easy work. It's also tax free and you can jump on whenever you're free or it suits. You can easily earn a couple of hundred a week.
It's a good side hustle and a site I recommend to get started is BonusBank.
