Pretty good prices but under $20/TB is the golden goose unicorn target but still very good prices if you need it now

      • There’s a point where you need to buy a larger case or another sata port though, so it might actually end up being cheaper for some

        • True that. Physical space is another very good criteria to consider.

  • Dammit. Bought a 20 Pro and 14 plus recently that still haven't shipped, but was charged today for $850ish.

Notice that the Pro has the longer warranty.

Do these need to be shipped to WD in Malaysia or elsewhere overseas if you need warranty claim?

    • Generally, yes to Malaysia, if you go direct to WD. But tell them you won't be paying shipping and ask them for a prepaid pickup. I've done this a couple of times before and they will get Fedex to pick them up at their cost.

Good price if you need it now, though if you can wait months I'd recommend waiting for the next Group Buy. I got 16tb EXO 16s for around $285 each delivered: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736571

Next GB could be a while away though and no guarantee prices will be the same (though I'd imagine similar).

Dang this needs to happen again

    • Amazing price mate.

    • I read that as you got 16 x 16tb. Was like wtf is somebody doing with 256tb of storage

Amazon AU shipped me my last HDD"s in a poorly padded envelope. No box or anything. 2 out of the 4 drives I ordered died within a week. Returned them and never again.

    • When did you purchase these drives?
I just bought one, hoping they've improved the packaging for HDDs.

    • You’d think they’d spend a bit extra on the right packaging than having to deal with the far greater cost of having the customer return the drives because they died.

My shipment this week arrived well packaged from Amazon AU. Was in a plastic shock absorbing shell inside a suitably sized box without a lot of wiggle room, and the box was then inside a padded air-bubble style shipping bag.

      Seems they’re inconsistent

      • This has been my experience too.

    • Probably better buying the external drive and shuck it, at least it comes with proper packaging

      • Any externals come with red pro? Or equivalent?

        • It tends to be luck of the draw or capacity. You'll get a white label drive with a part number that'll either correspond to a WD Red or a Ultrastar.

Nobody knows whether these drives are QC fails, extras, etc.

At least the plastic case and the big rubber blocks they use to hold the drives in place will insulate them a little from catastrophic shipping damage. However it's still recommended to do at least a single-pass over the drive to make sure that there aren't any bad sectors, sudden deaths out of the box.

    • I ordered two drives and Amazon shipped them in a large empty unpadded box. The drives had the space to smashed around together like bricks during transport all the way from the US, repeatedly. I returned them without testing / wasting my time. My packaging was beyond bad.

I saw this when the 4TB ones were posted recently, and checked the reviews, like this one.

Put me off from entertaining the risk.

      • The photo was almost exactly like mine, but I’d say mine had less air packets.

  • Bought 2. Thank you.

  • Damn! I got 14TB of the red pro 388 last week

  • the link seems show $493.42, offer invalid anymore.

  • 18tb for ~$469 instead now
