No idea how this model works, but if it uses trickle charge, dont use it for a long period UNLESS you religously check and top up the liquids every 2 weeks.

Ive lost count the number of times people pull up at the boat ramp and the boat battery is dead. "cant be the battery, i've had them trickle charging all winter". Cells are dry as dry.

I have batteries that are 15+ years old. I basically put them on trickle charge for half a day max, once a month. Except for summer months where i do a charge cycle every 2 weeks instead (if it has been a hot month), as heat makes reactions go faster (ie. drains further in summer). Top up the fluids once a year.

    • One of the many fun things that happens at boat ramps.

At least they made it to the ramp, keep an eye out for the trailers on the sides of highways during summer because 'Davo' didn't think taking the boat out once a year would be an issue for the trailer wheel bearings when his Ranger was 200km from the city.
The SCA 7 stage chargers do the job, keep an eye out for when they're 50% off. Their RRP is ridiculous.

        • Classic Davo

        • whats the technology called so I can see if I can find alternatives?

          • +3

@kingmoron: The technology is called "the wheel". Although many have reinvented it there's no real alternative for what it does.
Do let us know if you find something.

The C7 is a much better charger.

  • Would this be fine for a 2012 Yaris and 2018 CRV?

    • +3

No. It will blow them up.

      • How /why?

      • Awesome! I will take the extra charge! Or should I get the higher version as recommended above?

  • +2

Look at the Victron Energy Blue Smart IP65 series chargers. PDF on site to determine best model for your use case/s; for modern cars it’s the 12/10, 12/15 or 12/25

  • Can i buy this to full charge my cybertruck that I will buy in 2030? 😜

  • ummm, why bother!? IF its 4A or 5A makes litte difference in ur use case scenario as ure leaving ur car for some months in a garage.

just trickle charge from ur normal standard GPO and that'll give u 2A, far more than enough to keep the lights on.

  • I ended up buying this from www.onlineautoparts.com.au with there Ebay store, they have a $10 off coupon. Did not want to take the risk of using www.sparesbox.com.au.
