Can you use the remote when you're 5-10 minutes away from home cooling or heating before you arrive home?

      • +4

As per reviews, it appears that you can only turn on/off with the app. Any additional functions require paid subscription.

        • -1

You can also set on off schedules with the free version. Handy little device.

        • +3

I do not have the subscription and almost exclusively use my sensibo via Google assistant. Works fine, even through my android auto on the way home.

        • +2

You can turn it on/off using Alexa/Google.
You can also set it to go on/off if it goes above/below certain temperatures.

      • +1

        Lol so ridiculous.
Just get home and turn it on you princess.

    • +3

It's not just a remote control, its also full smart control. My friend uses hers to keep an eye on the house temp and turn the AC on if it gets to hot, so the house isn't to hot for the dog.

I use it to turn my AC on an hour before I get home so my room is nice and cool when I get home from night shift so I can go to sleep comfortably.

    • +3

Being able to see my house temperature from my Lock Screen, remotely check if any of my air conditioners have been left on and pre heating cooling is worth it for me.

      • -7

All of these sound absolutely useless. Just go home and turn on air con if you feel hot/cold.

        • +1

If you think thats dumb, wait till i tell you about the 50+ smart devices i have

        • +1

How is being able to walk into a cool comfortable home instead of walking into a hot house waiting for it to cool down? My AC takes about half an hour to cool down to a nice temperature in summer. Sure, it's not absi6 necessary, but far from useless.

    • +1

I've got a lot of expensive plants so being able to remotely cool my room so my plants don't cook is great. Plus I love being able to tell google to turn it off in X time when going to bed because I don't like to leave it running all night.

  • Once you've set this up can you change it to other ACs later on or are you stuck with the one you first set it up on?

    • +4

      You can change it

  • +2

You can just remove the device and sync the new AC remote

  • Thought I saw a new v3 somwhere

  • +14

$30 IR sender from bunnings or kmart does my tv, aircon and soundbar as they're all in one room

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/mirabella-genio-smart-ir-remote-…

    • +7

The above is not HomeKit compatible. Sensibo make a cheaper non HomeKit model.

      • +16

Even better to get a Broadlink RM4 Mini Universal Remote and hook up to home assistance, job done.

        • +6

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, this is exactly the way to do it.

Or even easier, RM4 with temperature addon with IFTTT, at easily half the price.

          • +1

@Magpye: You can even control your RF ceiling fans if needed and fully customisable.

          • @Magpye: Exactly. HomeKit Bridge opens all avenues

          • +1

@Magpye: I have had the RM4 mini’s with the temp sensor cable for a couple of years now. Work perfectly and don’t require a paid subscription of any kind.

I use voice control and have schedules via google home. I have Fujitsu splits.

        • Do you mind linking to the product pelase?

Also does it have HomeKit (or at least home bridge) support?

          • +6

@Larsson: This is the product: https://www.amazon.com.au/BroadLink-Universal-Learning-Enter…

Apparently there are ways to get Homekit control: https://www.reddit.com/r/HOOBS/comments/ktuy8z/integrate_bro…

No subscriptions involved, can be controlled with all the usual cloud services and voice assistants, and it can also control almost any device with a remote: plugs, TVs, stereos, soundbars, DVD players, fans etc. It also integrates nicely into home automation software like Home Assistant, if you're into that.

To be clear, Sensibo's devices are well-designed and have a simple interface. They're designed to do one thing really well, albeit with most of the good features behind a paywall. In contrast, the Broadlink suite of devices are designed to control almost anything, and the app is more complicated and less user-friendly as a result. You decide what's more important to you.

            • @klaw81: Thanks Legend. Yeah I have a raspberry pi set up as homebridge at home so definitely don’t shy away with tinkering with stuff but also do love the convenience and more importantly consistency of apple HomeKit devices. That’s why I was keen on this one.

I’d get it at $100 but anymore is a bit too much for an IR blaster tbh. But thanks for the other product. I might actually get one and see how I go!

        • Good luck trying to remove Broadlink (IHC) from your google assistant, the phantom devices have caused me more headache than any other product :(

        • +2

This is what I do (actually, I use home bridge instead of hass), but it is in no way the same.

I had to buy a Raspberry Pi (unless you have a computer running 24/7), and setup was far more complicated than you are making it sound.

Unless you already have the hardware required, the Sensibo is the better option.

    • +2

Came here to ask the same thing. Does this unit do anything better over the kmart Genio unit?

    • +1

I'm pretty sure Google Home won't recognise it as a thermostat though so no voice control. For me it meant I still needed to pick my phone up to control which just defeated the purpose.

      • +1

Voice control works for me. Great in the middle of the night!

    • +2

Alternatively, i've been using Broadlink RM4 for a number of years via HASS (only lately I bought the temp version to monitor temps from the remote instead of m5stack Atom devices). You can train the IR signals, capture the codes and get it to reply via HASS based off other workflow.

Not sure about Homekit etc though. Works flawlessly on Fujitsu units as well as other things - though I've had to buy a few to litter around the house. (I recall a couple being <$40).

    • How does this work, do you have to align the mirella unit to the air con IR port?

  • +9

I’ve got four of these at home. Brilliant if you have young ones in the house too and you can adjust cooling for all rooms workout setting foot in there, or operating from off-site and popping things on before you head home.

I know there are generic IR systems at fraction of the cost but these truly are super fast setup and then they just work. No furthering tinkering ever required.

    • I've got 5 Broadlink units around the house and in the shed controlling 3 air cons, TV's, stereos, sound bar, set top box, pedestal fans, TV LED strips etc.

The Broadlink is simple to setup, and once it's setup i never have to tinker with anything. It's been probably over a year since i opened the app when i got a new TV. I just dont get why anyone would pay $500 for 5 Sensibo units which cant even do half the things the Broadlink can for $300 less.

      • What's the difference between the pro and mini?

        • +1

There's a table on this page which lists the differences between 3, 4 mini and pro https://iotdiy.com/what-are-the-differences-between-broadlin…

But the main one is the Broadlink Pro also does 433Mhz transmission, so this can work with roller shutters, ceiling fans and things which use a 433Mhz radio signal instead of infrared like most remotes. It may work with older garage doors and gate openers that dont use "code hopping" security.

          • @LowRange: Just purchased a couple of the minis and they work great. Set up was a drama though. Kept getting errors when trying to initially set up using my iphone 13 and connect to wifi. Then tried setting up with an iphone XS and worked first time. Then logged into the account using my iphone 13 and all works fine.

  • If I use the a/c remote, does this pick up on that IR signal changed the temp/settings?

    • +1

If you aren’t blocking the line of site between both sensors then yes it should. 👍🏻

      • Cool. Wasn’t sure if it was just an IR blaster and not also a receiver.

      • Wait really? I was looking at these but was told that if you use the manual control of the remote control the sensibo won't update it? That's a game changer if so?

        • +1

It does update the sensibo when you use the ac remote - but it's not a 100% (at least for me) - sometimes the ac picks up the signal but sensibo does not (depends a lot on the placement of the sensor)

          • @mini_wombat: Ah, that's good to know. I guess that's probably the benefit of the sensibo over something like the broadlink/generic IR blaster units out there?

    • +1

Yes if you have the sensibo in the same beam range as the AC sensor.

  • +1

    Where's the $80 coupon?
Edit: found it on the Amazon page under the product titled "voucher"

    • I can’t see it, I think it’s expired.

      • Yep looks like it's gone. It's not where I saw it anymore

  • +5

If your in NSW and selected areas, you can get one for free
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/744277

    • Beware Endeavour energy can control your ac 🙁

      • unplug the sensibo during event days and keep your AC off the grid.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing this here, I was looking at getting one of these and nearly snapped up the $99 deal. Just signed up to the powersaver program to receive it free. 100% discount not too shabby.

  • Mite give it a go, here is a review

    https://youtu.be/I40KTA0HukQ

  • Does this work with evaporative cooling like Bonaire?

  • Is this a new one? I have one I bought two years ago that I don’t recall being anywhere near this price

    • There are a few different models

    • This is way overpriced even after discounting.
There are plenty of other 'wifi-IR repeater' options on the market.
Just google 'wifi-IR', and yes they are also compatible with Google Home, Alexa, Mijia etc etc.

Tuya is the Chinese company that manufactures these.

        HomeKit?

        • Most Xiaomi gear is Homekit compatible

    Cheers op grabbed one

  • +4

These were great when we had split systems but our new place is ducted so bit bummed about it. Definitely recommend this especially if you got kids.

    • sorry, why is this not useful for ducted?

      • +5

ducted aircon controller is usually on the wall and not a remote

      • sensibo needs an IR remote to work. I had to go with a MyPlace installation with my ducted system - it isn't as good as a sensibo function and interface.

  • Looks good but eh i don't mind taking a few seconds to use the remote.

    • +7

Depends on your use cases really, a few things that I really used the Sensibo sky a lot such as

      • check the kids room temperature and humidity on the phone

      • control the temperature of the kids room when it is too hot / cold

      • turning on the air con before reaching home (especially on the hot summer), I normally turn on the aircon at home when I am driving, via google assistant

      • google assistant to turn on / off the air con when I couldn’t find the remote

      • doing easy scheduling instead of pressing many buttons on the remote

      • to check the temp in kids room, so you need one of these kept in the kid's room? or do you have a different temp sensor that talks to this device?

        • +1

Yes, need to keep one in each room
Sensibo has a in built temperature and humidity sensor apart from the IR remote control

      • This. Summarises my previous use case as well in our old apartment with split system AC in each bedroom and this helped us control temperature and humidity remotely in kids room.

Every now and then after a year or so the devices would start to fail and reset. Ultimately could be fixed using the recovery mode so just be prepared to do some google troubleshooting.

    • How do you use the remote when you are leaving the supermarket or heading home from work?

      • I guess they go home > switch on the aircon > drive back to work > then drive back home. Only problem is, it takes more than “a few seconds” :/

      • I don't, obviously lol. Not important to us. Might get one of these or similar eventually but automation has limited appeal, use it sparingly. If im not home then the house would be closed up and not crazy hot anyway. But even if was only takes 10min and its fine, power bill is high enough. If i lived in North Queensland or something be a very different matter. I see the value for a kids room too, makes sense… but no kids.

  • +1

Been using the Sensibo sky for years and it has been great, Sensibo air under $100 is a great deal

I also have broadlink pro with sensor attachment (also linked with home assistant) but still feel Sensibo is much easier to use

    • In which way is it easier to use?

      • +1

Eg. for setting up Sensibo automatically able detect my aircon model (IR signals) while broadlink I need to search from the library and test if each set works

  • Coupon no longer working

  • Can't find the coupon at all.

    • +1

      It's been used up

      • :( coup-gone

  • Coupon appears to have vanished. I'd say the initial $80 saving was supposed to be the coupon bit some lucky ducks managed to double dip.
    Hope y'all get your items!

    • On the contrary, vouchers are often set up with caps and can help sellers reach their Amazon warehouse sales targets and avoid fees. Selling a handful below cost is an easy way to do that.

  • I had such a headache getting mine working when initially setting it up (initial firmware update would fail over multiple networks, had to factory reset the device 2 dozen times/communicate with Sensibo and their local reseller before it decided to start working) - I imagine not the norm for these devices though it makes it hard to recommend.

  • Is there a similar solution for ducted? I have a Daikin system if that helps

  • I've got two of the Sky's, one in the office (Mitsubishi) and one in the master bedroom (Braemar).

I bought them during prime day for $113 each. $99 for the Air is a bargain!

They work a treat. I ended up upgrading to Sensibo plus cos the office A/C was getting a bit smelly even though it's brand new. I don't use it enough, and didn't think to run it in "fan mode" after using it. Whenever I turn the A/C off via Sensibo, it puts it into fan only mode for 5 mins to dry up any moisture. Annoying this is gated behind a $40/yr subscription, but you get some other stuff too I suppose.

Also good at night, I can just turn on the bedroom A/C and forget about it. I've configured it to shut off after 2 hours.

I use the Sky's with HomeKit via HomeBridge, but that's not going to suit non-tech people.

  • Keen in this unit - but how does the unit know what temperature the AC unit is currently being set at. Say someone uses the actual AC remote to set the temperature to 20degC - does the sensibo knows that the temperature is now set to 20 and it should adjust this to 22degC for instance?

    • +1

Yeah, if the Sensibo is in line of sight of the actual remote, it will register the change.

      • thanks bro. I wasnt sure it will so was quite skeptical - thanks for the confirmation!

  • Coupon has gone. Price changed?

  • voucher is gone :(

  • We have 2 of these in our house (in the lounge and in the bedroom). Our loungeroom device is set so if the temperature goes above 28 degrees, it turns on automatically and turn off automatically once it goes below 23. Great in summer especially when we are out knowing we can come back to a room that is not an oven.

  • +1

I recently went with broadlink. Only 35 odd bucks. Works great.

    • Any links thanks
