Cheapest 24GM I've found in the last few months so I'll pull the trigger.

  • What are you mainly buying it for? Gimbal work?

only 1511, buy now think later))

    • Can use it for everything! I personally love this for the obvious reasons like astro, landscape, event photography etc. But even better I'm always using this focal length for fashion & food photography. You get that wide look that most people relate to (without being too wide), but with amazing IQ and beautiful subject separation.

    • Just general stills and video, don't own a gimbal, don't need it imo with modern stabilisation. I have stabilised lenses and bodies and if I have to run software stabilisation which can give footage that overly smooth look I almost always hate.

  • Beautiful prime I hear! Was tossing up between this , the new 24/ 70 ii gm , or the tameron 35-150 for my new sony just a week ago..

    • Doesn't compare to a zoom, the zooms zoom and this is much faster and technically better at 24mm.

Choose what you need in terms of composition etc. and buy it. A technically perfect 24 is useless if you need a 21, or an 18. It can sort of become a 35.

You can then crop to a 50 but the zoom set to 50 will probably look better, especially cropping in video.

Again, think about what you need, don't buy this because it's cheap or technically great becuase that's of no use when it's in the bag not on the body.

Beautiful lens. I wouldn’t use anything else for my youtube A-roll

    • Agreed, 24mm is the perfect "this is a wide shot so it's less formal and I'm more relatable as a result" type youtube personality ;)

      • yep. That bokeh and separation is on another level. I would not change it for anything else is probably over exaggerate. I would change it for a Sony 24mm F1.4 Anamorphic lol

Sony 15-35 f2.8 is $2k cheapest I’ve found too thanks

    • Sigma also make a 24-35 f2 which I have and it's great, a very useful set of focal lengths with a fast enough aperture and it's not too shabby at all AOV's, focus is fast and accurate on my 7S3 and A9.

  • Is there a new version of this out? I think its been around for a while now.

    • Doubt it could be significantly updated in any way, the tech in it is current, not just optic manufacturing but AF motors etc.

The only thing that could be done would be to downgrade resolution, coma etc. to chase character, but it's not like this lens suffers from being overly clinical either.

As others have said, it's as close to perfect as it gets and at $1500 is a bargain.
