Yale Silver Unity Security Screen Door Lock $374 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass) @ Bunnings

40

Saw the sale ticket of $374 go up for the Yale Silver Unity Security Screen Door Lock while at Bunnings yesterday. Ticket indicates sale is on till 4th of Jan.

Normally: $469
Saving: $95
Previous Best: $371

It appears other retailers (JB Hi-Fi & Officeworks) also dropped there prices recently but to $375.
For the true bargain hunters there probably is an Officeworks price beat option for $355.3

I haven't bought one of these myself but have been keeping an eye on them as they seem to be one of the only options for smart locks with security doors. I'm waiting for a review of these to come out before purchasing myself. If anyone has one please PM with your thoughts.

  • Anyone had firsthand experience with these?

    • Installed it a few weeks ago. Took 2 attempts of returning problematic units to finally get a working one. Works really well now, but wow Yale QA/QC must be shocking. Issues with first 2 units were a bowed (bent) frame/chassis and a faulty door position sensor.

  • In general, what is the method to see what lock will fit my door? What should I be measuring??

    • I would check the width and height, so the space it need to install.
And better check the clearance between your security screen door to you entrance door where the lock's handle will be installed.

    • Check the install guide on Yale's website, which includes the door cutout dimensions etc. You can then compare this to your door. My door was ever so slightly different, but a few minutes with the Dremel tool after removing the old lock, and all is well now.

  • JB dropped first, debated price beat at bunnings too long

Dont have fingerprints unlock. Pass from me.

Looks cumbersome to use. You need a phone or a tag to open it, defeats the purpose of an electronic lock imo. Needs an option for keypad and/or fingerprint to even consider it. Also take into account the cost of the optional 3 point lock kit which you need on a front door if you value your security at all.

    • yeah looks like they expect it to be paired with in internal door lock or keypad really - so you unlock that and it unlocks. It has quick locking options but not manual unlock options - you need accessories like a phone of other lock or keypad :/

Personally I saw photo this and thought it was a sliding door lock… something I'm keen to find as I want to do all my doors on the same system when I do go this route and this seems to be the missing option from any suppliers.

Recently installed this with the Yale entrance lock on a front door and security screen door. Works great with Google/RFID tag/Keypad. Agree that a fingerprint method would be a nice addition. Keypad/phone works very well at the moment though.

McGrath Locks have one if you are interested.

      • Looks pretty decent that one, thanks for sharing.
