Good table saw but for another $600 on Boxing day I got the Sawstop compact table saw (CTS) from Total tools with the stand and a Diablo 50T combination blade.

Great price for a Sawstop. It's a shame they were never successful in licensing their technology to other manufacturers, it really should be standard.

      • Sawstop was bought out by Festool in 2017 so the tech has been incorporated into some Festool table saws already.

Also, I think the original Sawstop parents expired a couple of years ago so you may start to see at least basic versions of the tech in other table saws.

    • Hi @nezza, I am interested in the CTS too. Did you get bonus points from Total Tools for your CTS on Boxing Day? Was it how you got everything for $1600? Thanks!

Yeah, I think that’s why DeWalt is offering a substantial discount. Competition is good for us consumers.

      • Yes, that's right. Had to be careful as an online order qualified for the bonus points but if you ordered directly with a store, it was a custom order that didn't qualify for the bonus points.

Came to about $1640 all up with delivery for the table saw. I bought the stand and the blade the next day with the bonus points and these included free delivery.

  • The smaller one is not reduced anywhere? I was about $600 in August.

  • Sydney tools also gives you $200 credit when you spend $1000.

    • Sadly, no. "This product does not incur bonus points"

    Hi Nezza,

I did the same. I got a sawstop CTS, but from Carbatec.

I have cut off part of a finger before with a tablesaw, and figured it was worth the $ to get the Sawstop.
The sawstop gets bad youtube comments about how the fence can move a bit up and down, when fully extended.

I don't know if the Dewalt does the same. I had a tradie chippie who raved about his Dewalt.

If you're not clumsy, this is likely a good deal.

If like me, you will try to remove more fingers, the sawstop might be the go.

    Cheers

    • What were you doing the got your finger?

      • I'd hazard a guess and say he was cutting some wood.

    • Still need be careful of kickback but it's definitely worth the extra cost in my view.

I'll need to buy an extra brake from Carbatec as total tools seems to not sell these anymore.

I don't think the little bit of up and down on the fence when it's fully extended will make any practical difference (even the videos seem to admit that). I'm upgrading from a cheap Aldi table saw so I'm sure it's going to be amazing regardless.

  • Damn… just bought the Hikoki C10RJ for $699. After wanting a table saw for a year or more, two go on sale at the same time!

Undecided for returning to get this… DeWalt as a brand seems much better regarded online compared to Hikoki/Hitachi/Metabo these days, but the actual design and specs are very similar if not identical in most areas. Not sure if this is worth $250-$300 more (assuming on-selling the bonus item).

    • The Hikoki seems to use the same rack & pinion fence setup, so should be on par with the Dewalt. I haven't tried it myself though.

    • The Hikoki i think is far heavier and only a 1500w motor to the Dewalts 2000w.

    • Hikoki does come with the portable stand and 6 years warranty, but like others said 1500w only motor, I’m not sure if that’s a deal breaker.

      Seems to be loved, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739970

This is a very good tablesaw. I bought it a year ago on a totaltools sale day. When I got it.the fence was not straight and DeWalt sent me a replacement hassle free within 2 days.

The bonus with this saw over others is that its fence can be set very.wide and it takes a dado blade. Also the rack and pinion fence system is very good. Note for the blades, it is cheaper to order them on Amazon as the bore.is a US bore.i think.

I built a table.and sled for it. Changing the blades is really simple as well.

It is not super portable and I chose this one over the smaller DeWalt because of the depth of cut it provides.

    • Interested in building my own table saw as well. Did you do it to save $? And did you use an online design?

      • I think he meant he built an outfeed table or bench around the dewalt table saw not a table saw from scratch.
If you're trying to save $ a 2nd hand Triton would be a good option.

        • Yes, I built a table for the dewalt saw - I did not build a table saw.

But before the dewalt, I used a $100 ozito table saw. It actually performed very well. It was enclosed in a table (that I built). The tablesaw was boxed in on 3 sides. I didn't use the fence from the ozito as it was useless. The table saw blade was perpendicular to the edge of the table, so I would use a square and piece of wood to create a simple fence for my cuts. That setup performed very well. The dewalt has obvious advantage over the cheaper setup - faster to setup the fence, deeper cut, more powerful motor, better dust extraction, more accurate fence, dado blade, ease of changing blade, height adjustment much easier. If you really want a cheap setup I would go with that as it doubles as a handle work station. (I also mounted my router into the table with a alluminium plate as well.)

        • Ah, thanks. Yeah I see it now. My dad built a table saw from scratch, it was pretty good.
